Rules for Adding -ing to Verbs

This document provides rules for adding the "-ing" suffix to verbs to form gerunds (verb forms ending in "-ing" used as nouns). There are three rules: 1) For words ending in a silent "-e", drop the "-e" and add "-ing"; 2) For one-syllable words ending in consonant-vowel-consonant, double the last letter and add "-ing"; 3) For most other words, including words ending in "-y", simply add "-ing" with no changes. The document then provides examples of applying these rules and an exercise for students to write sentences using the new "-ing" words.
