Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 5

1st Quarter

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

a. Determine the function of Lymphatic System

b. Recognize the parts of Lymphatic System based on its function/s.

c. Complete the Lymphatic System Diagram

d. Realize the importance of a healthy Lynphatic System

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: The Lymphatic System

b. References: Science and Health Book

c. Materials: Powerpoint presentation, book, worksheets, cellphone

III. Procedure

Teacher's Activity Learner's Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer

"Let us pray first, who wants to lead the prayer?" (One student will lead the prayer)

2. Greetings

"Good morning, class.." "Good

morning, Teacher"
3. Checking of Attendance

"say present once I call your name"

(The students will say present after hearing
4. Energizer
their names)
(The teacher will let the students sing the song
"Every single cell")
"Every Single Cell"

Every single cell in my body is happy

Every single cell in my body is well (The students will sing Every single Cell)

I thanked you Lord

I feel so good

Every single cell in my body is well

(Repeat)

"Very good! from the song we sang, why do you

think it is important that every single cell in our
(The students will raise their hands)
body is well?"
"It is important that every single cell in our
(Teacher will call a student)
body is well so that we can avoid getting
"Very good" sick."

B. Recall

"Who can recall our lesson yesterday?"

(One students will recall their previous

lesson)
C. Motivation

(The teacher will post the pictures below and will

ask the following questions)

(Students will examine the picture)

Question:
1. What can you say about the first picture? "The
boy in the first picture is sick"

2. Why do you think he is sick?

"His body is unhealthy" , "He doesn't have
healthy lifestyle" , "He doesn't eat healthy
3. What can you say about the second picture? foods".

"The boy in the second picture looks

healthy."
4. Why do you think he is healthy?
"He eats healthy foods", "He exercises daily",
He has a healthy lifestyle" he takes care of
himself"
5. What should we do to be healthy?
"We must eat healthy foods", "We must
exercise daily", "we must tske care of our
self"

D. Discussion

Are you familiar with the game Patintero?

Okay, so Patintero is one of the most popular

games in our country. To play this, you need two
"Yes, teacher"
teams, the attack team and the defense team.
The defense team guards their area by occupying
lines and moving through them without allowing
any member of the opposite team from passing.

Did you know that we also have a defense team

inside our body?

Okay, so Lymphatic System is our body's defense

system.
(Students will listen)
The Lymphatic system is made up of ducts and
lymph vessels. The system carries the lymph fluid.
Lymph fluid is made up of plasma, white blood
cells, and certain solid elements that leak out the
capillaries. It has two main function: to return lost
fluids and proteins to the circulatory system and
to fight infections.

Parts of Lymphatic System

1. Tonsils - The tonsils can stop germs entering the

body through the mouth or the nose. The tonsils
also contain a lot of white blood cells, which are
responsible for killing germs.

2. Thymus - The thymus makes white blood cells

called T lymphocytes or also known as T cells.
These are an important part of the body's
immune system, which helps us to fight infection.

3. Spleen - The splen act as a filter for your blood.

It recognizes and removes old, malformed, or
damaged red blood cells.

4. Lymph Vessels - Lymph vessels work with the

veins to return fluid from the tissues. It pumps
lymph fluid using smooth muscle and skeletal
muscle action.

5. Lymph Nodes - It is a small structures that work

as filters for foreign substances, such as cancer
cells and infections.
Get a partner and discuss with each other the
importance of having a healthy Lymphatic system.

(The teacher will call some students to share their

partner's discussion)

(Students
E. Application
will find their partners and discuss with each
Group yourselves into. Each group will have to other)
complete the following activities.
(Each partners will have one representative
A. Give the functions of Lymphatic System. to share their discussion)

1.

2.

B. Complete the Lymphatic System diagram (The students will form a group and do the
below with their corresponding parts. following activities)

A. Function of Lymphatic System:

1. return lost fluids and proteins to the

circulatory system.

2. fight infections/body defense

B. Complete Diagram

1. Lymph vessels

2. Lymph nodes

3. Tonsils

4. Thymus

5. Spleen
F. Generalization

(The teacher will ask the students to answer the

following)
1. What are the functions of Lymphatic
system?

2. Give the parts of the Lymphatic System

3. Why do you think Lymphatic system needs

to be healthy?
(Students will raise their hands)

1. return lost fluids and proteins to the

circulatory system and fight infections/
body defense.

2. Thymus, Tonsils, Lymph nodes, lymph

vessels, Spleen

3. Because it prevents infections and other

bacterias from enetering our body; So that
it can function properly and to prevent us
from getting sick.
