STATE
State is an organized political community living under a single system of
government. Often state and government are used as synonyms. Both words refer to
an organized political group that exercises authority over a particular territory. Sates
may or may not be sovereign.
For example, federated states that are members of a federal union have only partial
sovereignty, but are, nonetheless, states. Some states are subject to external
sovereignty or hegemony where ultimate sovereignty lies in another state. The term
“state” can also refer to the secular branches of government within a state, often as a
manner of contrasting them with churches and civilian institutions.

NON-STATE
These are establishments which are not owned and controlled by the government.
Some non-state is for profit and others are nonprofits and some are for personal
investments and for financial help. Examples:

 the state is a large community of people big enough to support itself, it
also occupies a certain part of the world.
2. What are the Characteristics of a state?
 The characteristics of a state are that it must have sovereignty, an
established government, clearly defined borders, and a permanent
population.
3. What is difference between nation and a state?
 A state is a territory with its own institutions and populations while a nation
is a large group of people who inhabit a specific territory and are
connected by history, culture, or another commonality.
4. How does nation oppose state? Cite an example.
 The definitions of the two words must not be mixed up because it can
cause confusion and conflicts between nations or state.
