B. Detailed Proposal

a. Rationale
The pandemic has turned the economy under recession,
depleting incomes of entrepreneurs, dissolving businesses and
likewise has lost jobs. Solid waste management is another
dilemma not only by the businesses under furniture industry but
also by the local government that caters to these ventures.
Cuttings and leftovers from furniture industries are being
accumulated in our locality. These solid wastes include
quantities of excess trims and cuttings, deadstock and defected
pieces which are never used in production,. Production wastes

from other phases of the supply chain like design and planning
and unutilized products from unsold items can also be
repurposed to create our products. So if we dig deeper, the
potential to reuse excess materials from bamboo furnitures
production is even bigger.

With this project proposal, we plan to harness the creativity and

skills of our clienteles by disseminating awareness on RA 9003
which is also known as ”AN ACT PROVIDING FOR AN
ECOLOGICAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
CREATING THE NECESSARY INSTITUTIONAL MECHANIMS
AND INCENTIVES, DECLARING CERTAIN ACTS
PROHIBITED AND PROVIDING PENALTIES,
APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR, AND FOR OTHER
PURPOSES” It is also addressed as “ECOLOGICAL SOLID
WASTE MANAGEMENT ACT OF 2000” We intend to create
sustainable human environment, create schemes that are
ecologically and economically feasible which will benefit
community in the long run. We will do this by introducing
RETAZO.

Our brand name RETAZO is derived from combining terms and

elements that depicts what our brand is all about.

RE- from the term RECYCLE; One of our objectives is to

diminish waste from bamboo scraps by converting the said left-
overs or cuttings into another product such as accessories,
sandals and souvenirs.

TA- is a Thai word meaning eye; Bamboo is Cauayan City’s

economic mover, thus incorporating the term reveals the
inspiration behind our project. The eye is the passage to the
soul in which we aim to reach and fulfill, and by creating quality
products for our target market, we can affirm that our creations
will not only satisfy the eyes but gratify the souls of our chosen
client.

ZO- is closely sounding to SEW; The accentuated term will

capture the responsiveness of our clients.

Combining these three syllables will give you RETAZO, in which

will connect you to the word “retaso” a Filipino word meaning
clippings or cuttings. This term depicts the raw materials that we
utilize in creating our end products as we treat this as an income
generating program.

We will be a lifestyle brand that utilizes cuttings and leftover

bamboo to produce another product such as sandals, home

improvement goods and souvenirs. Our RETAZO team aims to
supply souvenirs and sandals to potential buyers. Our intentions
are also to showcase the talents and skills of our adopted skilled
laborers that are retrenched from their respective jobs brought
about by the pandemic. We also aim to target the SME’s whom
plans to alleviate their income. We will also organize exhibits
with our stakeholders through our partnership with DTI, and
approach them for further research and outsourcing of skills.

With the aid of RETAZO, we aim to deplete solid wastes from

the furniture industry particularly bamboo scraps in Cauayan
City, as well as exhibit the craftsmanship and distinctive culture
of Bayanihan in our locality.

b. General Objective and Specific Objectives

The main objective of the activity is to establish cognizance with

the RA 9003 “ECOLOGICAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT ACT OF
2000”. This plan will also bring together extensionists of ISUCC and
promote fellowship. With these at grip the project aims to:

1. Ignite entrepreneurial activities by instigating ecological waste

management as an opportunity to gain additional income.

2. Showcase ASEAN artistry and technique through our

distinctive designs and aesthetics.

3. Acquire knowledge in marketing recyclable products by

initially conducting training on visual advertising and lay-outing

4. Our customers are the blood-life of our business, considering

their personalities and uniqueness will affect our design process. With
this, offering customized apparels that suits their tastes is one of our
commitments.

Awarding and closing remarks was delivered by the Dean of the College of
Business and Management Dr. Christine Holly Jane P. Bartolome, CPA to our
resource speaker.

g. Best Practices

As of the moment, our extension program has been involved

with the SME’s on our private consultation and planning sessions due
to the limitations of this pandemic. We continuously link our
respondents to key people such as board members and councilors for
their probable funding and aid. Our role is to ensure that this extension
activity meets its objectives and legal requirements, and ensure we
have the funds and plans in place to do this.  Our beneficiaries are
very persuasive to continue the entire course of our program.

h. Monitoring and Evaluation

. The projects shall be monitored daily/ weekly/ monthly by the
project leader to determine the status/ progress of the project. This is to
properly keep track of the operations of the project and to reduce risks
of controllable factors affecting the project.

i. Project Outcome

j. Sustainability Plan/Way Forward

For the duration of the project, the team will regularly monitor
and evaluate the implementation of the project in order to attain the
sustainability of the project and fully realize the objectives of the
project.

The following activities should be regularly done.

1. Quarterly meeting/consultation.
2. Monthly submission of progress report.
3. Weekly monitoring of the implementation by project
components.
4. Semi-annual evaluation through in-house review
5. If completed, present to the University Agency In-House Review.
6. Conduct assessment of the project.
7. Adopt the project and continuous mentoring to our adapters.

k. Problems Encountered
a. Due to travel restrictions, our extensionist had limited activities
such as environmental scanning about the raw materials.
b. It is quite difficult to convene our respondents because or some
technological inadequacies.
c. Availabilities of our stakeholders on our time allocated for our
respondents is also a problem because some are not present
during our session.

l. Lessons Learned
a. Coordination is important between our respondents, stakeholders
and extensionist.
b. Due to technological limitations, it is suggested that proper time
management shall take place in order to generate more audience.
c. It is important that our respondents together with stakeholders and
extensionist to render their support to further assess the
adjustments that can possibly be done to continue the program.
