TUNE IN
What is melody?
It is simply the tune of a song.
Here is a simple melody.
Repeat after your teacher.

How does a melody move?


There are three ways in which a melody moves.
WORK THESE OUT
Here are examples of notes moving in different directions.
Play “on air” your right hand to show the direction of notes.

Repeat tones on the spaces and lines.

WRAP UP

Sing the song.


Locate the medic directions found in the song.

Introduce yourself to your class.

Notes have letter or pitch names.
Notes have so- fa syllable names
Read the notes.

Scale is a series of notes that move up and down a ladder.


Sing the scale with your teacher.

TUNE IN
Read this poem.

GET SET
A poem is like a song made up of phrases.
These phrases are simply called musical lines.
Musical lines may be similar.
It may also be dissimilar.

See some examples of similar musical lines.


Here are examples of musical lines that are dissimilar.

Below are simple musical lines.
Compare them.
Tell whether they are
similar or dissimilar.

2. B and C
3. A and C
4. A and D
5. B and D

WRAP UP

Compare each pair of musical lines.


Write on the blanks if they are similar or dissimilar.

POST TEST
I. If the notes are moving up color them yellow.
If the notes are moving down, color them green.
If the notes are repeated, color them red.
II. Write ST for tones that that move by steps.
Write SK for tones that move by skips.

III. Follow the directions.


IV. Sing the notes of this melody while clapping the rhythmic patterns.

V. Read this familiar melody.


Clap or tap the rhythm while reciting the words.
Read the notes according to syllables.
Sing the words in correct rhythm and pitch.
VI. A. Read the notes of this song according to pitch names.
