affecting that business that are into traditional selling is highly salient for those street food stalls.
Chapter 1 is made up of six parts, namely; (1) Background of the Study, (2) Statement of the
Problem, (3) Theoretical and Conceptual Framework, (4) Significance of the Study, (5)
Definition of Terms, and (6) Scope and Delimitation of the Study. The objective of this study is
to evaluate the perceptions of street food vendor in Pastrana Park about the advancement of
technology in their business.
Background of the Study
Between the years of 2006-2008, it has been found that there is a significant increase in
the number of street food vendors in the Philippines. As a matter of fact, there is 26, 873 street
food vendors in 2006 and approximately 39% increase in the stalls establishment in any
commercial streets. With the rise in number, they have generated a total income of 34,478, 237
in the year 2008, compared to their 11,276,154 income in 2004. Street Food, as defined by
[Link], as the wide range of ready-to-eat foods and beverages, sold and sometimes prepared in
public places, notably streets. Street food often reflects traditional local cultures and exists in an
endless variety. There is much diversity in the raw materials as well as in the preparation of
street food beverages, snacks and meals. Vendors’ stalls are usually located under a roof which is
accessible from the street. They have low-cost seating facilities which are sometimes low. Their
marketing success depends exclusively on location and word-of-mouth promotion.
Street food businesses are usually owned and operated by individuals or families
but benefits from their trade extend throughout the local economy. In the Indonesian City of
Bogor, the annual sales raise up to US$67 million. While the average daily sales of the 100 000
stalls in Malaysia, annual street food sales amount to US$2.2 billion. This is a relatively a
significant figure considering that most of the earnings are generated locally and thereby
promote self-sufficiency.

Each street food enterprise is generally small in sizes; it requires simple skills,
basic facilities and small amount of capital to build their own small business. The reasons why
street food vendors are increasing is, they are attracted to the possibility of earning high incomes
with small capital. Furthermore, vendors can choose their work hour; they have few constraints
in their movements and are self-employed. But as time passes and the technology evolve, there
are some instances that consumers would love to choose well-maintained restaurants or a fast
food chain for a better environment and advance digital equipment. Some would choose highly-
maintained place as it will ensure them proper sanitation and cleanliness. With all of these
advancements, where promotion could be posted on social networking sites, television or radio,
small businesses such as street food stalls may be affected with all of this. We live in a global
world where technology, especially information and communication technology, is changing the
manner in which businesses create and capture value, how and where we work, and how we
interact and communicate. As Murray (2015) competes, “Together these innovations are hurtling
us toward a new industrial revolution. Savy corporate leaders know they have to either figure it
out first.”
Barley (2015) suggests that although digital technology is rapidly becoming as
infrastructural as electricity, there is surprisingly some studies on how it is altering work systems
or the work that people do.
These observations led the researchers to seek answers on how the local street food
vendors in Pastrana Kalibo, Aklan would handle the digital advancement. It is in the light that
the purpose of the study is to determine the perceptions of street food vendors in Pastrana
Kalibo, Aklan.

Theoretical Framework
General Systems Theory
The premise of general systems theory is that a system is composed of interacting elements that
are affected by their environment. Because of this interaction, the system as a whole can evolve
and self-regulate. When applied to business, experts shorten “general system theory” to just
System Theory. In actual fact, systems theory is more a perspective than a fully formed practice.
Systems Theory encourages you to realize that your business is a system and is governed by the

same laws and behaviors that affect every other biological organization. This introduces such
concepts as: Entropy, Synergy and Subsystem. Entropy is the tendency for a system to run down
and die. Synergy is working together; the parts can produce something greater than those some
parts could produce on their own. Subsystem is the whole is built on subsystems, which
themselves are built on yet more subsystems. This theory corresponds to our problem as this
shows the system between the street food vendors and business with advance technology. This
theory focuses mainly to the absence of advancement of technology of small business but still
gain profit the same with business with advance technology. The theory mainly tells that
business is still gaining profit with or without the advancement of technology… This tells us that
business is about teamwork and strategies to have consumers even loyal consumers.
