Course Outline and Aims
The aim of the course is to provide delegates with basic knowledge and understanding on
terminology and protection concepts for equipment utilised in a potentially flammable or
explosive atmosphere.
The CompEx Foundation (ExF) course has been designed to train and examine the
competence of personnel working in potentially flammable atmospheres. It aims to provide
delegates with basic knowledge and understanding on terminology and protection concepts
for equipment utilised in a potentially flammable atmosphere. The training is provided at a
level which is appropriate to form a clear understanding of the dangers of potentially
explosive atmospheres and of the dangers of working in these atmospheres.
Course delegates will gain knowledge, understanding and practice in the preparation,
installation, inspection and maintenance of equipment installed in potentially hazardous
areas. The course also covers the standards for the manufacture and installation of
equipment and their protection concepts where such equipment may be installed in
potentially flammable atmospheres.
The course does not provide an assessment of competency to install, inspect or maintain
electrical equipment in potentially hazardous atmospheres. The CompEx modules Ex01,
Ex02, Ex03 and Ex04 are required to meet this level of competency.
At the end of the course candidates will be able to:
Recommend the remedial action required to maintain hazardous area equipment to
meet the required standards
