A GUIDE IN PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1 & 2

QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE METHOD

How to make a research title?

 The ability to develop a good research topic is an important skill.

An instructor may assign you a specific topic, but most often
instructors require you to select your own topic of interest. When
deciding on a topic, there are a few things that you will need to do:

1. Brainstorm for ideas.

2. Choose a topic that will enable you to understand.
3. Ensure that the topic is manageable and that material
is available.
4. Define your topic as a focused research question.
5. Formulate a thesis statement.

Defining a research topic as a focused research question narrows the scope of the study, which helps in maintaining a clear direction, leads to more targeted data collection, and facilitates precise, meaningful analysis .

Research objectives provide clarity and direction for the study, align with the research question, guide the methodology, and inform data interpretation, ensuring coherence and consistency throughout the research process .

A theoretical framework provides a foundation for understanding the research problem by linking the current study with existing theories, which helps in formulating the research objectives and guiding data analysis .

A manageable topic ensures that the researcher is able to explore the subject thoroughly within the constraints of time and resources available, leading to more comprehensive and meaningful research outcomes .

The 'scope and limitations' section delineates the boundaries of the study by identifying aspects that are covered and those that are outside the research's purview, which provides a clear context and helps avoid overgeneralization .

The 'review of related literature and studies' identifies current knowledge gaps, provides context for the research question, and establishes connections with previous work, which enriches the study's theoretical underpinning and justifies its significance .

The key components of the introduction section in a research paper include the introduction itself, the background of the study, the definition of the research problem, the significance of the study, and the scope and limitations .

To develop a viable research topic, a researcher should brainstorm ideas, select a topic they can understand, ensure the topic is manageable and material is available, define the topic as a focused research question, and formulate a thesis statement .

To ensure material is available, a researcher should conduct a preliminary literature review to ascertain relevant studies, data, and findings related to the chosen topic, ensuring sufficient resources are available for comprehensive analysis .

Brainstorming for ideas helps in generating a broad spectrum of potential topics, aiding the researcher in discovering areas of interest and identifying unique angles or gaps in existing research .
