vmIndicator/PCTM :
Release Notes for Version V01.00

Draft #1 PJN/XXT/1 July, 2010

vmIndicator/PCTM Release Notes for Version V01.00

Overview

vmIndicator/PC™ is a standalone application which implements graphical vibration and

shock indicators for use with the XXT vibration monitor. It implements the same indicators
as used in the xxMWD PCSuite™, but in a form available to customers who do not use the
xxMWD PCSuite™.

Four basic vibration / shock levels are displayed using these background colors:

In addition, an elliptical indicator is drawn whose size is proportional to the vibration / shock
level and a pair of round dots move within the indicator at a proportional speed. When the
vibration data includes xy and z data, the major axis of the ellipse indicates the axis of
maximum vibration / shock.

Vibration / shock data may be acquired either by listening to the qBus, or to a third party
application writing to the vmIndicator/PC™ mailslot. Specify the desired listening method
using the Setup dialog, available from the Application > Setup Communications menu.

The vibration / shock data may be telemetered either as a packed data word or as a generic
variable. The data format section shows how the data is defined.

The window which displays the vibration and shock indicators may be resized as desired.
The indicators and fonts are resized proportionally with the window width. A single-line text
area below the indicators shows the most recent data. If this is not desired the window
height may be adjusted to hide this data.

Data Format

The telemetered vibration / shock data is of the form "vmPkWdn = xx" where n = 0, 1, 2 or 3.
This data is interpreted as follows
vmPkWd0=HiVib:u1 HiShk:u1
vmPkWd1=VibLevel:u2 ShkLevel:u2
vmPkWd2=VibLevel:u2 ShkLevel:u2 VibZmax:u1 ShkZmax:u1
vmPkWd3=xyVibLvl:u2 zVibLvl:u2 xyShkLvl:u2 zShkLvl:u2

In cases where non-XXT receivers or software are in use, this data must be telemetered
using generic variables. To enable the use of generic variables and to devine which generic
variables correspond to which vibration monitor data word, use the Application > Setup
Generic Variables menu to open the Setup Generic Variables dialog.

In this example, if "GV3 = 5" is telemetered it will be interpreted and displayed as

"vmPkWd1 = 5", and "GV7 = 103 " will be interpreted and displayed as "vmPkWd3 = 103".

Listening Methods

qBus
To listen directly to the qBus, connect a serial COM port on the PC to the qBus and specify
the COM port and qBus baud rate in the vmIndicator/PC™ Setup dialog, accessable from
the Application > Setup menu.

If an appropriate cable is not available for connecting the PC serial COM port to the qBus,
the same effect may be achieved by using an XL50 operating in either transparent character
(XPCM) or print broadcast (PBM) mode. Note that in this case the baud rate specified in
the Setup dialog must be the XL50's PC port baud rate, which is not necessarily the same
as the qBus baud rate.

Mailslot
To listen to the vmIndicator/PC™ mailslot, select the mailslot option on the Setup dialog,
accessable from the Application > Setup menu.

When this option is selected, vmIndicator/PC™ will open a mailslot with the name
"vmIndicator" and start listening for messages on that mailslot. Third party application
programmers may send data to the vmIndicator/PC™ by writing it to this mailslot.

A sample source code file "MailslotExample.c" illustrating how to write to the vmIndicator
mailslot is provided in the vmIndicator/PC™ Documentation folder, accessable from the
Help > Browse Documentation menu.

xxNETserver
NOTE: This option is only available on PCs which also have xxMWD-PCsuite™ installed.

To listen to xxMWD-PCsuite™, select the xxNETserver option on the Setup dialog,

accessable from the Application > Setup menu.
