CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

These Curriculum Development Activities are anchored on the Curriculum Development System Goal
and Objectives of the Senior High School Level of Binalbagan Catholic College, Inc. To note, these activities
shall be anticipated to be sustained in 5-year period in accordance with the time frame of the school’s
Institutional Development Plan. However, dependent on the results of the evaluation, their effectiveness on the
persons involved, the activities may be reduced or improved accordingly in time frame, contents, nature, and
characters considering the context these activities may be placed.
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION TIME FRAME

Diagnostic Test The Diagnostic Test will evaluate the incoming July 2022
Grade 11 learners’ readiness in their Research,
English Language-Based, and Numerical-Based
Subjects. The results of the Diagnostic will be
utilized for the Excellence Achievement Training
(EAT) which will help learners become readier in
facing the aforementioned subjects.

The items included in the Diagnostic Test are

contributed by the subject teachers who are
teaching Oral Communication, Reading and
Writing, English for Academics and Professional
Purposes, Research, and Pre-Calculus which have
been determined as the subjects where previous
Grade 11 learners struggled the most.

Excellence Achievement The EAT has been conceptualized to allot a 20- 2 Weeks of
Training (EAT) hour time frame for each discipline which will be August before
executed simultaneously in assigned locations in the classes begin
the campus.

It means that while the HUMSS people are being

trained on English Proficiency (Oral
Communication, Reading and Writing, and English
for Academics and Professional Purposes), the
STEM enrollees are being trained in Pre-Calculus
Readiness and the ABM enrollees in Research.

The EAT also aims to raise funds for the

classrooms’ development for instructional
purposes. It aimed to provide monitors and

hardwired Internet connection for each classroom.

Each recommended learner has been

administratively approved to remunerate P175 for
the entire duration of the training across all
disciplines included. This means that those who
passed the Diagnostic Test are not required to
attend the training, but they have been given the
liberty if they want to. This is not compulsory.
The training has been derived from the previous
Massive Training on Standard American English
for incoming Grade XI learners which received
laudable feedback from the learners, as well as
from their parents and guardians and which has
materialized the functionality of the public address
system of the academic level at present.

Furthermore, the proceeds of the EAT shall be

credited as follows: 50% of the fee shall go to the
teacher-trainers, 30% shall go to the project, and
20% for the utilization of school facilities and
equipment.

Moreover, the EAT likewise aligns with the

Institutional Development Plan to produce
research, linguistically, and numerically competent
graduates of the academic level.

ACADEMIC INTERVENTION The AIP is the academic level’s response to February 2023
PROGRAM (AIP) DepEd’s requirement to present a piece(s) of onwards
evidence that when a learner fails, the academic
level has done its job to intervene to not to leave
behind the learner, thus when a learner fails, it is
justified that it is not any more a failure on the
subject teachers’ end but mainly on the attitude and
perception(s) towards learning of the child.

The AIP has been conceived to cater all subject

areas where the learners can potentially perform
below minimum standards required academically
factored by personal intrinsic and extrinsic

motivation issues.

Furthermore, to not negatively intervene the

regular classes, the AIP observes the post-class
schedule daily from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Subject teachers need to religiously check or

monitor the identified academically challenged
learners and shall submit their names to the Team
Leaders and Coordinator prior to the official
enrolment to the program.

Moreover, the major objective of the AIP is to

reinforce the academically challenged learners of
the knowledge, values, and skills previously
assessed as the significant need(s) of the learners.
The teachers are not required of a learning plan,
rather practices the problem-based approach to help
the learners become at pace with the other learners
who are picking up the lessons just right.

CURRICULUM REVIEW The Curriculum Review Convention aims to July 2022

CONVENTION refresh teachers on what to include and how to
compose their learning plans in reference to the
learning competencies articulated in the curricula
guides. It aimed to determine the pre-requisite
knowledge, skills, and values for every learning
competency to help teachers self-assess their
mastery of the subject matters.

The teachers pick-out some learning competencies

from the subjects they are teaching and require
them to determine the pre-requisite skills of the
learning competencies they choose.

This allows the teachers to recall the knowledge,

skills, and values that must have been taught or
were failed to teach before proceeding to the
achievement of the learning competencies they
chose. Thus, their recollection of the previously

TABLE OF SPECIFICATIONS The Table of Specifications Formulation Training July 2022

(TOS) has been deemed significant by the administrators
FORMULATION/CREATION and teachers or institutionally due to the empirical
TRAINING findings that some, if not most of the assessments
of the teachers in all levels need improvement in
the distribution of test items in terms of level of
difficulty.

The training-workshop has been incorporated in the

In-Service Educators’ Training (INSET) to address
the issue.

Teachers across all levels have been shared of the

process on how to formulate or create the Table of
Specifications to ensure that periodic
assessments/evaluations/examinations adhere to the
scientifically recommended formulation of pen and
paper tests.

In the Senior High School Level, teachers have

been given the liberty to formulate/create TOS
along with their periodic examinations or not.

The option of considering the omission of TOS

anchors on the mastery of the teachers of the inputs
also considering that some unclear areas on the
principles of TOS have not been answered.

It has been recommended to conduct a

strengthening of the TOS formulation/creation
session before it gets permanently established as
part of the teachers’ requirements.

COMMUNITY (PLC) SESSION of the Binalbagan Catholic College, Inc. emerged
ON CURRICULUM REVISION inspired by the undocumented complaints of the
academic level teachers particularly on the
Research subjects’ sequence.

For a long time, since the SHS level of the

academic institution operationalized, Practical
Research 1 (Qualitative Research) has always been
taught prior to Practical Research 2 (Quantitative
Research). On top of that, the time gap between the
two related subjects takes almost 2 semesters or 1
year to chain its progression, resulting to losing of
previous learning in three main aspects –
knowledge, skills, and values.

Furthermore, this issue branched out to the

notifications of learning progression gaps between
and among other subjects; hence, the bringing up
of this subject to the Professional Learning
Community session.

RESEARCH REPORT The curriculum guide for Research Report provides January 2023
SUBJECT UPGRADING a description of preparing a scientific report/paper
to be presented/defended in a forum which implies
a generation of full-blown papers.

For the last five years, the academic level has not
preserved or kept a hardbound copy of the research
report output. Though defenses or presentations
had been done, the actual shelving of research
report outputs remains invisible.

Consistently, during the year-end evaluations,

research remains as the area that requires the most
improvement(s).

Hence, with the changes on the teachers who

handle the research report subject and considering
the exposures and experiences of the interim
Research Report teacher, plus the will to in-place
reasonable changes in the discipline, upgrading in
the subject needs to be executed.
