I. The objectives are for students to be able to identify meter and time signatures, demonstrate conducting gestures for common time signatures (2/4, 3/4, 4/4), and appreciate music using time signatures. II. The content covers meter, which refers to a repetitive strong/weak beat pattern represented through time signatures. Simple time signatures (2/4, 3/4, 4/4) are discussed. III. The procedures involve various student/teacher activities like group work, presentations, and identifying time signatures of example songs. Meter, time signatures, and their conducting gestures are summarized.

Again, what is our lesson for today? Very good! Students: our lesson for today is all
about meter and simple time signature.

What is the meaning of Meter? Anyone? (Raising their hands)

Metchie. Meter- refers to the arrangement of its
rhythms in a repetitive pattern of strong
Okay very good! Metchie and work beats.

Meter- refers to the arrangement of its rhythms in a

repetitive pattern of strong and weak beats. The Greek
word “Metron” which means “Measure”. It’s
represented as time signature in a musical
composition.

Meaning in a musical composition you can’t see it as

meter, how can you know or see or find the meter in a
musical composition? So, through time signature.
This is the example of musical composition.

Can you see a number at the beginning? So, that is

time signature, or we can call Meter.
And here is the time signature ¾, you can see the
meter because it represents the time signature in
meter.

So, what is the important thing that you should

remember when it comes to meter? So, we must
remember of the arrangement of its rhythms in
repetitive pattern of strong and weak beats, means has
a repeating pattern.

And there are 3 types of Meters.

1. Duple Meter- is a meter that has two beats per
measure.
Example: 2/4 so, in 2/4 there are 2 quarter notes.

2. Triple Meter- there are three beats per measure.

Example: ¾ and for the ¾ there are 3 quarter
notes.

3. Quadruple Meter- is a meter with four primary

beats.

Example: 4/4 and last is there are 4 quarter notes.

Am I clear class? okay. Yes ma’am!

So, Monick Marize will continue the discussion

about the time signature.
(Monick Marize Romano)
So, good afternoon/evening class! I’m Monick
Marize Romano and I am your teacher for today.

In your opinion what is Simple Time Signature?

Simple Time Signature is made up of two
numbers.
Examples: 4/4
4- a top number tells us how many beats there are
per measure.
4- and the bottom number indicate which types of
notes receives the beats.

Today, we focus on the time signature.

So, there are 3 simple time signatures.
1. 2/4-time signature – in 2/4 there are two beats.
2. ¾ time signature – there are three beats.
3. 4/4-time signature – and in 4/4 there are 4
beats.

4- is the quarter notes receive one beats and 2 beats per

measure.
Examples: 2/4(play musical beats)

Next, were look at a ¾ time signature.

Our, bottom number is still 4 so, the quarter notes still receive the
beats.
Now, let’s see the 3 at the top number, 3 beats per measure
instead of 4 beats.
Examples: ¾ (play musical beats)

4- as the bottom number, this means that the quarter notes equal
1 beat.

Again, let’s look a 4/4-time signature. It is also called common

time or C.
We already know that the bottom are 4 shows as a quarter note
will receive the beats. And the top 4 will indicate that there are 4
beats per measure.
Example: 4/4(play musical beats)
Yes ma’am!
So, does everyone can understand?

Activity:
So, since all of you are understand, please listen carefully to the
musical piece that I will play and identify the time signature. (Students will participating)
