THINGS TO DO DURING THE VISIT AND BEFORE YOU LEAVE
Before entering the site, phone the customer’s NOC to announce your arrival.
Follow the customer’s local on-site access rules at all times.
Use the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and take personal responsibility to secure long hair, loose clothing, and
jewelry when working with power.
Be aware of possible hazards in your surroundings.
Never attempt to lift heavy objects alone.

Control your work area by excluding all unauthorized personnel, keeping the area organized and clear, and reporting all
potential hazards to the Infinera Project Manager who is your first point of contact if anything is stopping you from working
safely.
Use grounded wrist or heal straps and grounded static-dissipating mats to ensure antistatic ESD protection when working with
Field Replaceable Modules.
To ensure laser safety:
o Always assume power is present on all optic fibers
o Never look directly into any optical connector
o Place caps on any unused fibers and fiber ports
Before installing new equipment, document the state of the equipment being removed – either take photos of it or label it.
Get permission before taking photos, and DO NOT use flash photography without first receiving explicit permission to do so.
Before beginning hot working (e.g., heat shrink, drilling, metal cutting) get permission from the site manager. Have your Health
and Safety procedures on hand as well as Health and Safety contacts in case an accident occurs.
Make sure you have permission from the customer NOC before starting the intervention.
Route fibers as taught in your Telcordia training.
o Segregate fibers from all other cable types.
o Place fibers in protective housing.
o Where allowed, separate diverse fibers and be sure to separate line-side fibers from client-side fibers.
(Note: Diversity is customer-specific and for some locations, separating diverse fibers is not an option.)
o Ensure the fiber bend radius always meets the Infinera minimum requirement of 25mm.
Provide labeling as stated in the NE Acceptance document / EDP or according to Infinera’s default labeling recommendations
which include the following guidance:
o Rack labels should be applied to the top of the cabinet or rack in addition to any existing Infinera or vendor labeling.
o Wrap labeling should be used on both power and ethernet cables.
o Flag labeling should be used on fibers.
o Do not use faded labels or obscure any existing labels.
o Be sure to apply labels at least 30 mm from the edge of any heat shrink or cable shroud.
o Ensure the label is applied straight in line with the cable and can be read upright from left to right.
Scope all fibers and ports before connecting them.
Clean fibers and ports using a One-Click fiber cleaner. When cleaning female fibers that are on a module, ensure that the
module is locked so that no power is present during fiber cleaning.
Ensure that all Raman ports and fibers connected to them are both cleaned and video-scoped according to Laser Safety rules.
Be sure to complete all assigned work stated in the NE Acceptance document / EDP. Make sure all equipment is installed,
commissioned, and tested as stated in the NE Acceptance document / EDP.
Test all installed cables, including management cables, line-side cables, and client-side cables.
Using the Link Acceptance Document template, record the physical tests you’ve made to ensure successful work completion.
Remove all HW loops or any other material used during troubleshooting.
Complete an on-site Infinera Audit on completion of the project.
Get the customer’s sign-off/acceptance of your work and call the customer’s NOC to inform them you are now leaving the site.
Be sure to remove all project-related trash. If you cannot remove it all, break it down and leave it in a trash collection area.
Take final photos of all:
o Infinera equipment on which you worked – showing that it was secured correctly
o Fibers and cables installed – showing they were labeled and secured correctly with no kinks or abrupt bends.
o Trash you leave – showing that you did break down the trash and left it in the trash collection area.
Get permission before taking photos, and DO NOT use flash photography without first receiving explicit permission to do so.
Provide the Infinera Project Manager with your test results and photographs.
