Circular Round Beret

This document provides instructions for crocheting a circular round beret. The beret has an 87 row ribbed brim made with a 3.5mm hook. Circular Round Beret

Size:
To fit an average-sized adult head

Materials:
3 x 50g balls of Sirdar Eco Wool DK in Flint (shade 204)

Crochet Hooks: 3.50mm (UK 9) & 4.50mm (UK 7)

Tension:
16sts and 11 rounds measure 19cm square over patt on 4.50mm hook.

Abbreviations:
Ch = chain(s), cm = centimetre(s), cont = continue, dc = double crochet, dec = decrease, foll =
follows, inc = increase, patt = pattern, rep = repeat, rtrb = work rasied treble at back as foll: yrh,
insert hook from back and front right to left around stem of appropriate st, yrh and draw a loop
through, (yrh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice, ss = slip stitch, st(s) = stitch(es), tr = treble,
tr2tog = work 1tr into each of next 2 sts leaving last loop of each on hook, yrh and draw through all 3
loops on hook, WS = wrong side, yrh = yarn round hook.
BERET

BRIM:
With 3.50mm hook make 8ch.
Foundation row: 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc intoe ach ch to end, turn. 8 sts.
Rib patt row: 1ch (counts as first dc), miss st at base of ch, 1dc into back loop only of each st to end,
working last dc into turning ch, turn.
Work a further 86 rows in rib patt; do not turn at end of last row.

MAIN PART:
Change to 4.50mm hook. Turn work on side and cont as foll:
1ch (counts as first dc), miss first row end, 1dc into each row end, join with a ss into first ch, turn. 88
sts.
Inc round: (WS) 3ch (counts as first tr), miss st at base of ch, * (2tr into next st, 1tr into each of next
3 sts) twice, 2tr into next st, 1tr into each of next 2 sts, rep from * 6 times more, (2tr into next st, 1tr
into each of next 3 sts) twice, 2tr into next st, 1tr into last st, join with a ss into 3rd of 3ch, turn. 112
sts.
1st round: 3ch, miss st at base of ch, 1rtrb into each st to end, join with a ss into 3rd of 3ch, turn.
2nd round: 3ch, miss st at base of ch, 1tr into each st to end, join with a ss into 3rd of 3ch, turn.
The last 2 rounds form patt. Rep them twice more and then work 1st round again.
1st dec round: 3ch, miss st at base of ch, 1tr into each of next 2 sts, * tr2tog over next 2 sts, 1tr into
each of next 5 sts, rep from * 14 times more, tr2tog over next 2 sts, 1tr into each of next 2 sts, join
with a ss into 3rd of 3ch, turn. 96 sts.
Patt 1 round.
2nd dec round: 3ch, miss st at base of ch, 1tr into next st, * tr2tog over next 2 sts, 1tr into each of
next 4 sts, rep from * 14 times more, tr2tog over next 2 sts, 1tr into each of next 2 sts, join with a ss
into 3rd of 3ch, turn. 80 sts.
Patt 1 round.
3rd dec round: 3ch, miss st at base of ch, 1tr into next st, * tr2tog over next 2 sts, 1tr into each of
next 3 sts, rep from * 14 times more, tr2tog over next 2 sts, 1tr into next st, join with a ss into 3 rd of
3ch, turn. 64 sts.
Patt 1 round.
4th dec round: 3ch, miss st at base of ch, * tr2tog over next 2 sts, 1tr into each of next 2 sts, rep from
* 14 times more, tr2tog over next 2 sts, 1tr into next st, join with a ss into 3rd of 3ch, turn. 48 sts.
Patt 1 round.
5th dec round: 3ch, miss st at base of ch, * tr2tog over next 2 sts, rep from * 22 times more, 1tr into
last st, join with a ss into 3rd of 3ch, turn. 25 sts.
Patt 1 round.
6th dec round: 3ch, miss st at base of ch, * tr2tog over next 2 sts, rep from * 11 times more, join with
a ss into 3rd of 3ch. 13 sts. Fasten off, leaving a long end of yarn.

MAKING UP:
Weave long end of yarn through top of remaining 13 sts, pull up tightly and fasten off securely. Join
first and last rows on brim.
