DETROIT

The engine was purchased from scrap with no history and initially started. During dismantling, the cylinder block and liner showed heavy rust and pitting. The main and connecting rod bearings were scored and worn. The crankshaft had scratches and rust by the damper mount. The cylinder head valves, seats and guides were worn. Other parts like the damper, fuel pump and pistons were also rusted. The conclusion was that the engine requires a complete overhaul due to the poor condition of many parts from rust.

CONCLUSION

After dismantling we observed that cylinder block condition was very poor condition due
to rust. Cylinder liner having scoring and pitting mark, main bearing and connecting
bearing which is .50 mm having scoring mark, crankshaft got slightly scratches and rusty
damper mounting side ,cylinder head spares like both valve, seat and guide got weared.
Other parts like vibration damper, fuel pump, fan hub, piston got rusted. For that engine
should complete overhaul.
