Understanding Redox Reactions

Redox reactions involve the transfer of electrons from one chemical species to another. They are common in many contexts, including batteries and the extraction of metals. Redox defines two simultaneous reactions: oxidation, where a species loses electrons; and reduction, where a species gains electrons. An oxidizing agent accepts electrons from the reducing agent. Examples of common reducing and oxidizing agents are provided.

Oxidation and Reduction

A. Rule of REDOX reaction
What is Redox Reaction?
Redox is one kind of ________________ reaction which is very _________ in our daily life.
Example:
Batteries, __________________________________________________________________
Red ox represents 2 chemical reactions __________________ and ___________________

Redox: _______________ and ________________ MUST occur at the same time.

Remark: These 2 terms “Oxidation” and “Reduction” are quite misleading

“Oxidation” may not related to Oxygen, “Reduction” is gaining electron during the reaction
Very Basic Principle of Redox!
2 chemical species: A and B: A tends to lose electron, B tends to gain electrons
When A meets B, _______________ Reaction occurs

A: Some Rich Men like to

____________ money.
B: Some Women like to
A B
____________ money.
