Computer Application in Energy

This document reviews literature on intelligent computer applications (ICA) in the energy sector from 1990 to 2003. It analyzes 247 papers related to ICA in energy and classifies them into four categories: expert systems, neural networks, genetic algorithms, and fuzzy-logic systems. The paper surveys how these intelligent methods have been applied to different problem domains in energy. It aims to create a knowledge base on the development and applications of ICA in the energy field over this time period.

Abstract: Intelligent computer applications (ICA) to solve complicated practical problems

in various sectors are becoming more and more widespread nowadays. This paper surveys
the application of intelligent systems in the energy sector using a literature review and
classification of papers from 1990 to 2003 with keyword index in order to explore how
intelligent methodologies and applications have developed in this period. Based on the
scope of 247 papers of intelligent energy technologies this paper surveys and classifies ICA
in the energy sector using the four categories of: expert systems, neural networks, genetic
algorithms, fuzzy-logic-based systems, together with their applications for different
problem domains in the specific sector. The paper concludes by sharing thoughts and
estimations on ICA future prospects in the energy sector.

Keywords: artificial intelligence; intelligent computer applications; energy; survey.
