CHARACTERISTICS OF MATTER
Matter- is anything that has mass and takes up space.
Solid- definite shape and volume.
Liquid- have definite volume but takes the shape of its container.
Gas- no definite shape or volume.
Mass- characteristics of matter refers to the amount of matter in an object.
Volume- characteristics of matter refers to the measure of the amount in an object.
Density- characteristics of natter refers to the measure of how much mass in contained within a given
volume of matter.
Viscosity- characteristics of the matter describes its resistance to flow.
Color- is an observable characteristics of matter.
Ex. Apples are red, orange are orange, bananas are yellow
Flexibility- describes an objects ability to bend.
Ex. Rubber, silicone, plastics, leather
Hardness- refers to a materials ability to resist permanent indentation. Hardness of a materials refers to its
resistance to being scratched, indented or deformed.
Ex. Diamond, steel, concrete
Texture- the feel or appearance of a surface. Some textures that objects can have are soft, hard, smooth,
rough, bumpy, silky, sticky and chalky.
Absorbency- refers to the ability of a fabric to take in moisture.
Ex. Cotton wool, bat mat, towel, paper towels
Malleability- refers to the physical property of a solid to bend or be hammered into another shape without
breaking.
Ex. Gold, iron, aluminum, copper, silver
Solubility- refers to the ability of a solid, liquid or gaseous chemical substances to dissolve in solvent and
from a solution.
Ex. Sugar, gelatin, salt
Electrical conductivity- Refers to a measurement of how easily a materials allows electric current to flow
through it.
Ex. Silver, gold and copper
Melting point- refers to the temperature at which a given solid will melt.
Ex. Ice melts
Boiling point- refer to the temperature at which the substances transitions from liquid to the gaseous
phase.
Ex. Boiling point for water

CHANGING IN MATTER
Melting- changing form sold to liquid.
Ex. Ice to water, melting candle, melting of steel
Freezing- changing from a liquid to solid.
Ex. Water to ice
Vaporization- a phase of transition from the liquid phase to vapor or gas.
Ex. Boiling water to gas
Sublimation- transition of a substances fro the solid phase to the gaseous phase without changing into the
liquid phase.
Ex. Solid air fresheners
Condensation-process through which the physical changes from the gaseous phase into the liquid phase.
Ex. Dew, fog, clouds

PREDICTIONS and INFERENCES


Prediction- it is a guess you make using text or picture clueso help you figure out what will happen next.
Ex. Malia was ready for the dance show. She practiced her dance steps everyday. She smiled as she came
on to the stage. Malia ……..

Inferences- refers to the act of deriving logical conclusions or making educated guesses based on available
evidence or reasoning.
Ex. The creature barked and wagged its tail eagerly. The creature is a ___________.

NOUN
Common noun- refers to any person, animals, thing or place. It begins with a small letter.
Ex. mother, soap, dog, teacher, doctor
Proper noun- refers to a specific person, things, animal and places. It begins with a capital letter.
Ex. Safeguard, Mrs. Reyes, Quezon City, Blacky,Dr. Joe
Count noun- can be counted one by on. We can use number to tell how many they are.
Ex. Two man, eight bears, one tree
Mass noun - cannot be counted one by one. In order to tell the amount of mass nouns, we quantifiers or
words that tell quantity.
Ex. A glass of water, a spoon of sugar, a jar of honey, a kilo of meat

PLURAL NOUN
Plural noun- is noun that refers to more than one person, place, thing or idea.
For most noun, add an ‘s’ at the end of the word.
Ex. Car-cars, desk-desks, tree-trees, ball-ballls
For some words that end with ‘o, s, x, z, ch, sh’ and ‘es’ at the end of the word.
Ex. Potato-potatoes, hero-heroes, echo-echoes, branches, bosses
For some words ending with ‘f’ replace the ‘f’ with ‘v’ and add ‘es’ at the end of the word.
Ex. Thief - thieves, loaf- loaves, holf-holves, calf-calves
For some words ending with ‘ife’ replace the ‘f’ with ‘vv’ and add ‘s’ at the end of the word.
Ex. Life - lives, wife-wives, life-lives
For some words that end with ‘y’ and ‘ies’ at the end of the word.
Ex. Fly-flies, copy-copies
For some noun, other letters must be replaced or added, sometimes changing the words completely.
Ex. Person-people, child-children, ex-oxen, goose-geese, foot-feet, man-men

SUBJECT AND OBJECT PRONOUN


Subject pronoun- refers to only one person, place, things or event.
Ex: I, you, he, she, it (My name is Jeremy Alexis. I live in Lupao.)
Some subject pronoun are two or more persons, things, animals, places and events.
Ex. We, you, they (They are very pretty)
Object pronoun- are found after action verbs.
Ex. Me, you, him, her, it, us, them (Mother taught me how to cook)
Possessive Pronoun- It is a pronoun that is used to show possession or ownership and it is used in place of
the noun.
Ex. Mine, Yours, His, Hers, Its, Ours, Theirs (This English book is mine.)
