Example:
If we turn-off the water in the shower, then the water will stop pouring.
The teacher will let the students analyze the statement by asking them
the following questions:
1. What have you observed in the statement?
2. Where is the hypothesis and the conclusion in the statement?
3. Is it an if-then statement?
B. Motivation
Title of the activity: "Is it True?"
Procedure: The teacher will provide all of the resources necessary for this activity to
be completed with two (2) groups. This is a mental game in which students must
determine whether a statement is true or false. The statements are posted on the
board. Each group will be given 5 minutes to present their findings in front of the
class.

C. Presentation of the lesson
Observe the following conditional statements.
1. If a man lives in the United States of America, then the man lives in North
America.
2. If a number is divisible by 3, then the number is odd.
The teacher asks the students the following guide questions:
1. What did you observe about the following statements?
2. Can you determine how to find the truth value of the given statement?
A conditional statement has a truth value of either true (T) or false (F). To know the
truth values of the statement we are going to use the Truth Table. To show that the
conditional statement is false, you need to find only one counterexample where the
hypothesis is true, and the conclusion is false.
Shown below is the Truth Table:

Let’s try the following conditional statements:
1. If a man lives in the United States of America, then the man lives in North
America.
Answer: The hypothesis of a conditional statement is the phrase immediately
following the word “if”. The conclusion of a conditional statement is the phrase
immediately following the word “then”.
Hypothesis: A man lives in the United States of America
Conclusion: The man lives in North America
The hypothesis is true, and the conclusion is also true because United States of
America is a country in North America, so people who live in the United States of
America live also in North America. Therefore, the truth value of the conditional
statement is true.
2. If a number is divisible by 3, then the number is odd.
Answer:
Hypothesis: A number is divisible by 3
Conclusion: The number is odd

The hypothesis is true, and the conclusion is false because the number 24 is
divisible by 3 but 24 is an odd number. Therefore, the truth value of the conditional
statement is false.
D. Application
The teacher will conduct a group activity:
Title of the Activity: "Make Me"
Procedure: The teacher will divide the pupils into two (2) groups and assign them to
the appropriate activity area. After ten minutes, the teacher will collect the answer
sheet and pass it to the other group for review. One or two representatives will step
up front and explain whether or not the claims they are making is true.
