H160 Unscheduled Maintenance After Vibration

This document provides procedures for special inspections that must be performed after a helicopter experiences vibration overlimits. It describes identifying if a overlimit event occurred from flight data, then selecting and following the appropriate inspection procedure based on the affected component, such as the main rotor head. Inspections range from simple visual checks to more complex tasks requiring specialized tools or assistance from the aircraft manufacturer.

PROCEDURE

1. Locate the elements used during the inspection.

1.1. Locate the MFD3 and the MFD4.

2. The Special Inspections after Vibration Overlimit must be performed if the condition
that follow are reached:
2.1. Energize the HC AMM 24-00-0002, 761 - Electrical System Assembly - Electrical
power systems energizing.
2.2. On the MFD3, push the “REPORT” BSK.

2.3. On the “FLIGHT REPORT” page, make sure that the “EVENT” message is
displayed in amber.

2.4. If the ‘’EVENT” message is displayed in amber, identify the type of event.
2.4.1. On the “FLIGHT REPORT” page, push the “EVENT” LSK.

WARNING

When MR Vibration Overlimit event alarms are raised, the HC is not allowed to return to
flight until the alarm root cause is diagnosed. In particular, when no maintenance means
are available near the HC, it is not allowed to take off without Airbus authorization. The HC
is grounded at its current location.

4. Perform Special Inspections after MR HEAD Exceedance.

NOTE

The flowcharts below show the MR troubleshooting procedure, organized in five

successive stages:

- Flowchart SMRH1: MR Vibration Overlimit: RTB Check

This Flowchart is designed to segregate alarms that would result from incomplete or
erroneous application of rotor corrections (Pitch Rod, Tab or mass adjustments).

- Flowchart SMRH2: MR Vibration Overlimit: Start Diagnostic

This Flowchart considers that a Ground System, if available and regularly used by skilled
operator resources, can be used to check the historical values of the MR vibration and
discard possible incorrect alerts resulting from outlying values - aka “spikes” in HUMS
terminology.

- Flowchart SMRH3: MR Vibration Overlimit: HMS Accelerometer Check

This Flowchart concerns the HMS Accelerometers inspection.

- Flowchart SMRH4: MR Vibration Overlimit: Inspection - Step 1

This Flowchart concerns GVI and SDI of the MR Head, the MRM and the MRB which not
require complex operations.

- Flowchart SMRH5: MR Vibration Overlimit: Inspection - Step 2

Before start the Flowchart SMRH5, it is recommended to contact Airbus for assistance
since the analysis of recorded HUMS data is likely to help the diagnostic procedure. This
Flowchart concerns a second inspection stage includes DET and FNC of the different
components of the MR Head and the MRM, which require complex operations.

WARNING

When Swashplate Vibration Overlimit event alarms are raised, the HC is allowed to flight
for a limited time (50 FH after the first event), which allows to return to a maintenance
center.

6. Perform Special Inspections after SWASHPLATE Exceedance.

NOTE

Considering the H/C is back to a maintenance center, the flowcharts below show the
Swashplate troubleshooting procedure, organized in three successive stages:

- Flowchart SMRS1: Swashplate Vibration Overlimit: Start Diagnostic

This Flowchart considers that a Ground System is available and regularly used by skilled
operator resources, can be used to check the historical values of the Swashplate Vibration
and discard possible incorrect alarm resulting from outlying values - aka “spikes” in HUMS
terminology.

- Flowchart SMRS2: Swashplate Vibration Overlimit: HMS Accelerometer Check

This Flowchart concerns the HMS Accelerometers inspection.

- Flowchart SMRS3: Swashplate Vibration Overlimit: Inspection - Step 1

This Flowchart concerns a functional check of the Swashplate Bearing which consists in a
free rotation sensitive check.

Perform the identification of the Vibration Overlimit alarm detailed information for
the related component, AMM 34-36-5005, 429.

NOTE
This information is useful to characterize the event.

WARNING:
The flight operation is allowed for a maximum of 50FH.

Return to a base where maintenance means are available.

MGS can be used to analyze the
HMS vibration data at the HC
location?

Yes

6
Download the HUMS data to the MGS:
- If the HUMS data is downloaded using the DTD, AMM 42-94-0001, 752.
- If the HUMS data is downloaded using the WACS, AMM 46-10-1000, 752.
NOTE:
The HUMS data is transferred to Airbus after downloading, when the connection is available.

Perform the identification of the Vibration Overlimit alarm detailed information for the
related component, AMM 31-36-5005, 429.

This information is required to check presence or absence of anomaly from HMS Accelerometer
that raised alarm.
