Poppies are commonly seen on open spaces on Mayfield, creating

patches of a vibrant and characteristic red. Some of them can be pink,

white or even blue! They have therapeutic properties and used by a
knowledgeable individual (as Nightingale the Butterfly) can heal some
mental injuries like Mad condition.

During spring, the most virtuous artisans make

beautifull little poppy dolls with them, which
can be found at most of the markets of Mayfield
(selled for 25p).
Its seeds are a precious topping for pastries
and can be selled for 50p each bag. Harvesting
three small dried capsules can fill up to one bag
of this dellicious poppy seeds.
The unrip capsule is a valuable source of
sticky latex (used for making traps as glue and
drugs like poppy tears).
The biggest capsules, when dried, work as
owesome helmets. If filled out with sand and
sealing its holes, they can be a great mace.
Poppy tears are the dried latex drops obtained
from the opium poppy. It takes one whole week
to be dried under intense sun. If someone eats
one (or inhales its fumes), adquires the Sleepy
condition if a WIL save is failed (clears after a
full rest). If supplied by someone with some
medicine knowledge, the save roll will be made
with advantage. If the save succeeds, you can
choose to heal 1d4 points of WIL damage or
clear the Mad condition.

MOCHA MICE
In Mayfield and many other locales, coffee and coffee houses are becoming
popular. It doesn’t take much caffeine to get a mouse wired. When a mouse drinks
coffee, they clear any Exhausted Conditions, gain the Caffeinated Condition, and
risk gaining the Caffiending Condition (see below).
Coffee houses serve a small coffee for 2p or a large for 3p. Some also offer
cold-brewed coffee, and a few also offer the latest craze: espresso and
espresso-based drinks (amausicano, macchiato, cappuccino, latte, mocha,
etc.). These specialty drinks are 3p for a small or 5p for a large. Furthermore,
for travel, one can buy a full coffee flask for 10p, and an empty flask
can be refilled for 3p (or 4p at a different coffee house).

The Hoffmann is owned by James, a lilliputian who runs it with his small
crew. He’s often working on the next coffee breakthrough, but he always
makes time to bake scones with his crewmates.
• Natural. Light roast. Notes: pineapple, coconut, whisky.
• Seven. Dark roast. Notes: rich chocolate, spice, and toffee.
• Can make espresso and espresso-based drinks.
Maroon Mug was started by a mouse named Nola, and she runs it
with a few friends. They serve a lovely spiced nut crumble cake.
• Sleepy Beetle. Light roast. Notes: lime, milk chocolate, and caramel.
• Bush Heart. Dark roast. Notes: Chocolate, black currant, and smoke.
• Nola’s Iced. Cold-brewed coffee steeped with a root that, giving it a
toasty-nutty flavor. Served with a dash of cream and sugar syrup.
Pilot’s Window was created by a rat pilot named Pablo who wears a guayabera. He only makes
two drinks so he can still find time to make pastries with sweet or savory fillings.
• Little Café. Cup of espresso sweetened with whipped sugar that forms a foam on top.
• Café with Milk. Like a latte with sweetened milk and a more even milk-to-coffee ratio.
The Caffae was started by a particularly entrepreneurial faerie named Posy. They also delight in
making floral-flavored shortbread and toast with jam for their guests.
• Mayfielder. Light roast. Notes: earl grey, black tea, and red apple.
• Titania. Light roast. Notes: rose, honey, and lemon.
• Posy’s Blend. Green tea made with chrysanthemum, jasmine, and amaranth.
For a coffee that could be marketed as even more
special, a roaster may hire an adventuring party
to find very rare coffee beans. Perhaps there is a civet-like
animal eating and partially digesting coffee cherries that ferment
as they pass through the animal. There may be a bat-like creature
that feeds on the cherries whose spit reacts with the cherries,
which are too large for them to swallow, creating a
unique flavor for the bean that is left behind. Similarly, a
monkey-like creature might eat the cherries and spit out
the indigestible beans.
Of course, if those animals learn that their
leavings are quite valuable, they might want to
negotiate for a cut of the business—or they
may even want to start their own!
Other coffee-related adventuring interests could be stealing cubes of
sugar from a giant’s home, acquiring honey as an alternative sweetener, discovering
and developing more flavors for syrups to be used in lattes, or even figuring out how
to make decaf coffee on a mouse-sized scale.
As with taverns and brews, if an adventuring party helps a
coffee house or performs great heroism in a locale with a
coffee house, they are liable to have a bean or a
drink named after them.
Flowery notes with a heavy body from the author:
When I make coffee, I usually use a 1:18 ratio of grams of ground coffee to
grams of water, using about 14 grams of ground coffee to 252 grams of water,
which leaves me with about 230 milliliters (or almost 8 fl oz) of coffee.
Assuming that effects of coffee/caffeine correlate to a creature’s mass, a
mouse would need about 1/4,000 of the coffee that a human does. This means
it takes about 0.0035 grams worth of coffee grounds to make an equivalent
cup of coffee for a mouse. So, if a single bean of a light
roast coffee weighs about 0.13 grams on average, then that
single coffee bean is enough to brew a small coffee for
about 37 mice (or a large coffee for half as many mice). Mice
would be shaving the tiniest grounds off of a single coffee bean to
brew a cup—perhaps with a tool like a cheese grater, or on a rotisserie
where the bean is continually roasted as bits are shaved off.
Furthermore, what these tiny folk call espresso isn’t real espresso—it’s highly-concentrated
coffee made under less pressure, like what a moka pot (or my favorite: the AeroPress) can make,
but it’s still thick and rich, and it works well enough for lattes.

The four Rose Belts
There is a rumor that in Mayfield there was an ancient battle fought by giants
of different shapes and colours. Some say their weapons fell to the ground,
with some energy still left on them, and that roses grew where they laid.

The Red Belt of Rage

While wearing this belt, you can't attack with weapons.
Instead, your paws grow sharp nails which you dual wield (d8
dmg). You must kill fallen enemies while wearing this ring.

The Orange Belt of Greed

With this belt, you can steal an enemy's weapon from a
distance as your action. You can't give away or discard any
weapon taken this way.

The Green Belt of Willpower

If unarmed, you can create a weapon of your choice on your
main paw using your action. It lasts until the end of combat.
Once you hear a call for help you feel the need to help no
matter the cost.

The Blue Belt of Hope

Concentrating for a round, you give empowered attacks to all
allies in a foot around you. Activating this aura costs your
action every round.
