four
Key learning Outcomes
1) Application of research process to identify historical, cultural and societal
aspects of the project building/infrastructure and location / community
2) Using literature, online, visual (site) and community aspect methodologies
3) Application of ESG sustainable development goals and their relevance to
the project
4) Understanding role of embodied carbon and circular economy principles
for sustainable development
5) Utilising a teamwork approach, identification of key tasks, tight timelines
and collaboration
6) Development of presentation skills verbal, written and visual
KEY POINTS
1) HEALTH & SAFETY – do not enter these building areas unless there is access to the
public
2) Do not contact sellers or agents about your projects
3) If you find there is an existing “change of use” planning application etc.. For your site do
not copy this! (you may refer to this – and what aspects or changes you would make but
not essential – as you may design an alternative use for the asset)
• Work as a TEAM! – everyone in the group should play a part
• Each project has different aspects – sometimes the more modern building/infrastructure
assets are as equally difficult as older assets.
• Consider the local context, needs, community and society in your approach (who would
use it, why, is there a “community gap need”, does this new “use” support e.g. 20min
neighbourhood approaches

Next Steps:
1) We will load up the 4 presentation template slides on LEARN
2) Consider how you as a group will plan your approach to the project (for
example: site visit, data sourcing, background history, images etc..
3) Tutorials for groups will be every Friday after a first lecture related to
sustainable development
Finally – do your best, be ambitious, be functional & timely and we look
forward to seeing your presentations in Week 6
