Ivan Antonio Borrero Hernandez

Iván Antonio Borrero Hernández, Colombian, born in Barranquilla,
Department of Atlántico, Colombia, studied at the Faculty of
Economics of the Universidad del Atlántico, graduated with honors
and laureate thesis, specialized in Currency and International
Banking. Of Franciscan training, he had the futuristic vision of what
is today a macroeconomic reality, what thirty years ago was being
developed in Europe and was a utopia or a simple theory, the
European Union and the putting into circulation of the monetary unit

8
the EURO. For the first time, he thought of applying those same
principles in his degree thesis: “The Andean Group and the Creation
of a Single Currency.” After several years of teaching and academic
studies, he is preparing a new updated edition of his degree thesis,
taking into account the concepts of globalization, euroization,
dollarization and free trade agreements, to update the fundamental
principles of the creation of a single currency at the level of the
Andean Group, without ignoring the economic reality of each of its
members and its social and political implications. He is currently
writing a series of essays and socioeconomic and political studies of
another great reality: The Island of Hispaniola and its two
inhabitants: the Dominican Republic and Haiti. A curious case, two
countries with different idiosyncrasies and customs, different
ideologies and ancestors, different languages, races and cultures,
native but different, contradictory indigenous cultures and descents,
but that share the same island and that are committed to an
uncertain future from the political, economic and social point of
view, in the context of the integration processes of the regions and
economic blocks. Concerned about the culture of these countries,
this novel focuses on Dominican justice without questioning or
criticizing its fundamental principles of Dominican law, but from the
humanitarian side, a topic that no one wants to touch on but that we
all know the great oddities and continuous violations of international
human rights, legacy of the dictatorial regimes of the banana
republics. In this novel, he deals with great subtlety, the problem of
human impudence reflected in the ignorance of the authorities, with
a pleasant way of writing and uses language without hurting
susceptibilities, he gives us a novel full of love, simple and delicate,
that the reader likes it. Neoliberal economist, member of the
Colombian Society of Economists, successful in his profession,
international business advisor in the different sectors of the textile,
clothing, construction and tourism manufacturing industries,
university professor in the area of economics, statistics and financial
mathematics , intellectual, excellent conversationalist and
accomplished reader, knowledgeable about the socioeconomic
problems that affect our countries in Latin America and the
Caribbean, tells us the following: “The reasons that have motivated
me to write this novel are to send a message to the youth,
especially my children. Life is short, but we can lengthen or shorten
it with our attitudes and behaviors in the development of it. Even
though it is difficult to achieve success, it is achieved, but it is more
difficult to sustain it, once in a very well-known place but for a few, I
read a graffiti on the wall: “don't get drunk with the successes,
overcome the failures "Life is a ladder which we must climb step by
step, until we reach the top, to success, but we cannot jump from
the ground to the top of the ladder. Therefore, these last years of
my life have taught me that we have to live with humility, patience,
perseverance and prudence. Life is full of good works and examples,
little things, moral and spiritual principles, but above all,
fundamental ethical principles: The Family. The adventure, the
improvisations, the lack of malice and foresight are part of failure.”
Memory, melancholy and nostalgia are fundamental characters in
this work, protagonists in this story, but also violence and human
misery, which is a narration of hypothetical events, fair or unfair,
real or products of invention, but told with the desire to deliver a
constructive message. Even though the events and characters are

9
products of the author's imagination, they are based on real events.
