Lesson 50: Geometry Review and Test
Weekly Focus: geometry
Weekly Skill: review and test
LESSON 50: Geometry Review and Test
Lesson Summary: For the warm up, students will do a matching activity about geometry vocabulary. In Activity
1, they will identify shapes. In Activity 2, they will do word problems for review. In Activity 3, they will take a test.
Estimated time for the lesson is 2 hours.
Materials Needed for Lesson 50:
Mathematical Reasoning Test Preparation for the 2014 GED Test Student Book (pages112 – 119)
Formula Sheet for the GED Test from:
[Link]
1 Worksheet (50.1) with answers (attached)
Objectives: Students will:
Review vocabulary related to geometry
Do word problems to review the geometry unit
Do word problems as a test
ACES Skills Addressed: N, CT, ALS
CCRS Mathematical Practices Addressed: Attend to Precision, Mathematical Fluency
Levels of Knowing Math Addressed: Abstract, Application
Notes:
You can add more examples if you feel students need them before they work. Any ideas that concretely
relates to their lives make good examples.
For more practice as a class, feel free to choose some of the easier problems from the worksheets to do
together. The “easier” problems are not necessarily at the beginning of each worksheet. Also, you may
decide to have students complete only part of the worksheets in class and assign the rest as homework or
extra practice.
The GED Math test is 115 minutes long and includes approximately 46 questions. The questions have a focus
on quantitative problem solving (45%) and algebraic problem solving (55%).
Students must be able to understand math concepts and apply them to new situations, use logical
reasoning to explain their answers, evaluate and further the reasoning of others, represent real world
problems algebraically and visually, and manipulate and solve algebraic expressions.
This computer-based test includes questions that may be multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, choose from a
drop-down menu, or drag-and-drop the response from one place to another.
The purpose of the GED test is to provide students with the skills necessary to either further their education or
be ready for the demands of today’s careers.

participate, not just the GED-level students.
2. Give students 5 minutes to do the matching.
3. Project the activity on the board to have volunteers write the answers or have them write the
answers on the board.
4. Answers: 1.e, 2.d, 3.j, 4.L, 5.c, 6.h, 7.i, 8.m, 9.o, 10.k, 11.n, 12.b, 13.a, 14.g, 15.f
Lesson 50 Activity 1: Identify the Shapes Time: 5 Minutes
1. Worksheet 50.1 projected on the board.
2. Give students a few minutes to think on their own.
3. Do the answers as a whole class.
Lesson 50 Activity 2: Review Problems Time: 40 Minutes
1. Give students about 30 minutes to do questions 1-28 from pages 112-115 of the student book
as review.
2. Go over the answers and explain the difficult problems.
Lesson 50 Activity 3: Geometry Test Time: 55 Minutes
1. Give questions 29-55 on pages 116-119 of the student book as a test.
2. Collect the tests and correct them to give back to students next week.
