Principals Message

This January, Just Do It!

Our Milemaker theme for January is taken from a slogan the NIKE Corporation put out a few years ago with their Just Do it campaign. This January as our students come back, students will be focusing on their studies looking to improve in literacy, numeracy and citizenship. Students will look to set learning goals, develop strategies to achieve them and finally to carry it through to just do it! As a family, we encourage you to review the learning goals set by your child and to support their efforts. Together, all is possible and little changes can have tremendous results. Good luck in your goals and have a very happy New Year! Gail Ferguson

Notes from the Office:

Registrations for 2012-2013 We are now accepting registrations for the 2012-2013 school year. Your child must turn 5 before February 28th of 2013 to be eligible to attend Kindergarten for 2012-13 school year. Please drop by the office to pick up a registration form. Forms are also available on the website. A copy of your childs birth certificate must accompany the registration. Save the date! Watch the website for information regarding the Kindergarten Open House which will be held near the end of February. We welcome the families of new registrants to tour the school, meet the staff and enjoy some fun activities! Inclement Weather: During inclement weather, the final decision to send a child to the bus stop or to school rests with the parents, even though busses and schools may be operational. Bus cancellations can be found on the PSD website ([Link]) or on local radio and television stations. Please ensure your children are always prepared for severe weather with proper winter apparel. We will keep the children inside for recess when the combined temperature and wind chill drops below -20. Watch Your Step! Our parking lot is extremely icy. Please drive carefully and watch your step! New Staff We would like to welcome three new additions to the Millgrove Staff. Mrs. Donnalea Ferguson is working in the office, Mrs. Laura Smith is working in the library and Mrs. Krysta Kwasnycia, will be working as an Educational Assistant starting in January.. Fees are now past due.

You may pay with cash or cheque at the school office. Make cheques payable to Parkland School Division. To pay by credit card at the school, please submit your Millgrove School Fee Schedule form to the office. Debit and credit card transactions will be accepted at the Center for Education in Stony Plain.

Request to Administer Medication A Request for Assistance to Administer Medication Form must be filled out if your child requires the administration of medication, with or without assistance. These forms are available on the PSD website or at the school office. Please note that these requests must be endorsed by your childs physician. Children should not have medication at school without these forms. Please contact the school office if you have any questions.

Notes from the Music Room

A special thank you to all students for performing so wonderfully during this years concerts! Bravo! A huge thank you to everyone who donated Food Bank items, it was greatly appreciated. Choir will be beginning in January and rehearsals will be held every Day 3 at lunch recess. Students in grades 2, 3 and 4 are welcome to come join the choir. We will be preparing for Choral Celebration which will be held March 21 in Edmonton. Mrs. Davies

Kinette Hampers
Once again, Millgrove families were amazingly generous during the Christmas season. We delivered 12 overflowing hampers to the Spruce Grove Kinettes to be distributed to families in need in the Spruce Grove area. The Kinettes appreciate your support!

Cultural Events
1) Author Robert Feagan, will be coming to Millgrove on January 17th. His website is [Link] The Grade 3 and 4 classes have 1 each of his three books written for older children. Robert will be talking about growing up in the north which fits in perfectly with our focus for January - the Culture of the Inuit people . The Library will be displaying many books which focus on the Inuit culture on the front counter. 2) Lee and Sandy Paley, a husband and wife singing duo, will be at Millgrove on January 18th.

Kids Safety Incorporated

Kids Safety Incorporated will be coming to Millgrove in January. The students will be learning about Home and School Safety, Fire Safety, First Aid and Healthy Eating.

Early Morning Supervision

Outside morning supervision begins at 8:15 am. We have been noticing a number of students being dropped off before this time, and we ask that children not be left unattended until the supervisors are out. Our playgrounds are dark in the morning at this time of year.

Snow Routes
Please avoid parking on Snow Routes. Cars parked in the snow route will be (and have been) ticketed and towed. If you are volunteering at the school, be sure you sign in at the office. The police may let the school know before they tow, however if you have not signed in at the office, we have no way of knowing who is in the building.
