The study covers concept of model and modeling process, introduction to operational research, principle of
optimization and the role of analytic solution for problem solving, linear programming; introduction,
solution of linear programming using graphic method, tabular simplex method, determination of basic
feasible solution and utilization of artificial variable for formulation of linear programming problem, duality
theory, dual simplex method, sensitivity analysis and parametric programming, matrix for simplex method,
improved simplex method, algorithm for problem with restricted variable, decomposition algorithm,
transportation problem, transshipment problem, and assignment problem: problem formulation and solution
algorithm, goal programming and integer programming: formulation and its solution algorithms.
2. Course objective/learning out come
At the end of the course, students will be able to: Develop mathematical model for LP problems; Solve LP
models and interpret the result; Design and analyze algorithms, and to distinguish good algorithms from not-
so good ones; Understand and appreciate proofs; and an appreciation for the capabilities and limitations of
LP models in operations research; Select the best optimization technique to solve LP problems.
