LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, most pupils will be able to identify and recognise the shapes of at
M least 20 letters in the alphabet.
At the end of the lesson, some pupils will be able to write letters in a straight line from left
C to right with regular spaces between words and spaces.
Pupils can recognise the shapes of at least 20 out of 26 letters in the

alphabet.
1. Show a few pictures to the pupils.
I. PRE-LESSON
2. Pupils guess the letters.
1. Stick the alphabet cards around the room, capital letter side showing.
Group them as in the Student’s Book activity.
2. Point to each card in turn, saying the letter for pupils to repeat.
3. Repeat two or three times.
4. Play the recording. Pupils follow the song in their Student’s Books.
5. Play the recording again, in sections. Pupils repeat.
6. Use the karaoke version of the song for pupils to sing in groups.
II. LESSON
DEVELOPMENT 7. Point to letters of the alphabet in sequence around the room for pupils to
repeat. Then choose letters at random.
8. Students work in pairs/ small groups.
9. Distribute capital letters alphabet mats and plastic letters/letter
cards/scrabble tiles.
10. Pupils match the upper case letters on the mat to the correct lower
case letters.
11. Monitor to check they are matching the letters correctly.
1. Distribute worksheets.
III. POST LESSON 2. Pupils write the missing letters.
3. Get the pupils to sing the song again.
