Read the examples given below and answer the questions. (2.5 marks each)
a) A gang of thieves stole a high-value painting from a display in a local auction house. Later, they
sold it to a rich landlord at a very high price and split the proceeds equally. However, one person
in the gang could not receive a fair share of the proceeds. Mention the remedies available to the
aggrieved thief explaining the legal status of this contract.
b) Taha stole cash and some merchandise items from ABC Store. Basit, the owner of the store,
initiated legal proceedings against him to recover his loss. Taha immediately contacted Basit
offering him to return the stolen cash and merchandise items, if Basit takes back the suit. To his
fortunate, Basit accepted the offer. Discuss briefly the legal status of this agreement?
c) Yousuf promises Ibrahim to paint his horse after one month at an agreed payment of Rs. 50,000.
Before the completion of one month, Yousuf died. State whether the contract can be performed
or not. Also mention the legal status of this contract.
d) A businessman enters into a contract with a service provider which states that the service provider
must complete the specified work within an unrealistic timeframe, such as 24 hours, even though
the scope of the work requires at least a week to complete. What is the legal status of this contract?
Important:
24 hours extra / grace period after the due date is usually available to overcome uploading difficulties.
This extra time should only be used to meet the emergencies and above mentioned due dates should
always be treated as final to avoid any inconvenience.
