BIOTEC FIRETEC
COMPOTEC® BIOTEC is a multy-layer thermoplastic FIRESAFE hose, manu-
factured from several Polypropylene, Polyethylene, Polyester films, reinforced
with high tensile fabrics, and an external Class 1 Fire retardand cover. First
layer, in direct contact with conveyed product, is made in a special film, 100%
resistant to aromatics and MTBE. COMPOTEC® BIOTEC, includes in its con-
struction an UHMW PLT Seamless tube film, to avoid any possible leak and
guarantee a gas-tight construction.

Application: COMPOTEC® BIOTEC hose, is a Biofuel suction and discharge

hose, particularly suitable for such applications due to its excellent chemical
resistance and its relative lightweight and flexibility. A hose designed for suction
& discharge of products at temperatures from - 40 to +100°C.

COMPOTEC BIOTEC HOSES indicates products which have compatible

chemical resistance with all types of new alternative fuels, such as:

Bioethanol (up to E98)

Biodiesel* (up to B100)

And traditional petroleum-based fuels:

Gasoline
Diesel
*Applies to biodiesels which meet ASTM D6751 criteria

BIOTEC 85 is a special fuel hose, designed to handle all grades of ETHANOL

fuel blends. Biotec 85 hose is built with a specialized combination of high per-
formance films and fabrics designed to handle today’s fully concentrated alter-
native fuels. Bioethanol is readily made from the starch or sugar in crops such
as corn, wheat, beet and sugarcane.
Bioethanol is a clear, colourless, flammable, oxygenated hydrocarbon which
can be used as a transport fuel. This can be blended at any level with gasoline
to create a biofuel blend.

BIOTEC 100, is an alternative fuel hose, designed to handle all grades of

BIODIESEL including 100% neat biodiesel . Biotec 100 hose is built with a
specialized combination of high performance films and fabrics designed to han-
dle today’s fully concentrated alternative fuels. Biodiesel or FAME (Fatty Acid
Methyl Ester) is produced from different sources like soft oils (i.e. rape seed
and soy bean oil, etc) and tropical oils (palm and coconut oil, etc.); this can be
blended at different percentages with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel
blend.

This product can reduce air pollutant emissions in particular the lack of sulfur
allows the gradual elimination of this substance as the main cause of the forma-
tion of acid rain. Another important aspect from the ecological point of view is
the amount of carbon dioxide that the Biodiesel releases during combustion,
which is exactly that absorbed by the plants during their growth, this offers the
possibility of avoiding the accumulation of carbon dioxide, because of
“greenhouse” effect.

Non-permeable construction – won’t swell or become stiff like conventional

thermoplastic/rubber hoses. Long life reduces operating costs.

Lightweight – much lighter than conventional Thermoplastic/rubber hoses

Superior flexibility – especially in sub-zero weather.

Electrical continuity - Electrical continuity is achieved by the two wires

bonded to the end fittings, this helps dissipate accumulated charge and to avoid
static flash. Upon request it’s possible to manufacture BIOTEC hoses in accor-
dance to the Directive 94/9/EC “ATEX”, with a special outer antistatic black
cover and cable for ground connection.

All COMPOTEC® hoses are 100% Antistatic - Electrically continuous, meets the
EN, CE, AS, U.S. Coast Guard requirements, NAHAD Guidelines, are Lloyds
and DNV approved and ATEX certificate can be released on request.

CRYOTEC Nanogel® – Patented design by Matec® Group

FLEXIBLE COMPOTEC® HOSE WITH INTEGRAL INSULATION VAPOR BAR-
RIER FOR SUB-AMBIENT AND CRYOGENIC APPLICATIONS.

Nanogel® is a flexible aerogel blanket insulation with an integral vapor barrier. It

is engineered to deliver maximum thermal protection with minimal weight and
thickness, and zero water vapor permeability. Nanogel®’s unique properties,
extremely low thermal conductivity, superior flexibility, compression resistance,
hydrophobicity, and ease of use, make it essential for those seeking the ultimate
in thermal protection for cryogenic applications. Using patented nanotechnology,
Nanogel® insulation combines a silica aerogel with reinforcing fibers to deliver
industry-leading thermal performance in an easy-to-handle and environmentally
safe product. Nanogel®’s extremely low thermal conductivity reduces heat gain
and its inherent flexibility makes the product durable and resistant to mechanical
abuse. Additional protection(ARAMEX braid and PU Redthane cover) on the
outer diameter is available to mimimize the abrasion damages and for further
protection and insulation. CRYOTEC Hoses with Nanogel® patented insulation,
can achieve an outer temperature of 23°C on hoses carrying LNG at -175 inside.

ADVANTAGES
• Superior Thermal Performance
• Up to 5 times better thermal performance than competing insulation products
• Reduced Thickness and Profile
• Equal thermal resistance at a fraction of the thickness
• Zero Permeability due to Integral Vapor Barrier
• Provides ice formation on outer diameter
• Physically Robust
• Soft and flexible but with excellent springback, Nanogel® recovers its thermal
performance even after compression.
• Eliminates Expantion Joints because it remains flexible even at cryogenic tem-
peratures,
• Environmentally Safe
• Landfill disposable, shot-free, with no respirable fiber content
• Flexible hoses are usually uninsulated due to severe stresses of cycling betwe-
en ambient and LNG (-175°C) temperatures. This can result in heavy ice forma-
tion during operation, and dangerous ice falls during the subsequent warm up.
CRYOTEC hoses insulated with Nanogel® are impervious to cryogenic cycling.

DRAINTEC For external Floating Roof Ta

DRAINTEC HD COMPLETE
HOSE DRAINING SYSTEM
Draining rain water from an external floating roof is important to make sure the
external floating roof will not built up too much water on top, which could even
cause sinking of the roof. COMPOTEC® has developed an excellent solution by
introducing Tank Drain hoses for this application. The major advantage of a hose
is that it does have a minimum number of connections, therefore eliminating
much of the potential problems with other draining systems.

As the COMPOTEC® DRAINTEC hose is a complete system, including the con-

nections, the lead ballast cable and the suspension system, it is easily installed
by a contractor crew. Each hose is individually tested prior the shipment, to en-
sure its performance. As a result of the flexible nature of the drain hose, it will
even be able to deal with frozen rain water inside.

Product description: COMPOTEC® Draintec Hose system is designed for im-

mersion inside storage tanks to drain rain water from a floating roof, to ensure
the proper drainage of water from the aboveground storage tank’s floating roof.
Specially compounded covers are used to resist immersion in high aromatic or
corrosive liquids.

Lining: Polypropylene or PTFE lined hose, depending on the type of hose speci-
fied or required DRAINTEC HD COMPLETE
Reinforcement: Textile reinforcement with a double high tensile wire helix to HOSE DRAINING SYSTEM

Lead ballast: On Request, each hose assembly incorporates (inside) a perma-

nently attached stainless steel cable and lead discs to prevent the hose from
floating in the stored product.

Repeatable lay pattern: COMPOTEC® Draintec hoses are installed to form a

single coil repeating lay pattern with a 360° coil.

Antistaticity: All hoses are supplied electrically continuous.

Installation: 2 Polyurethane SCUFFRING Support saddles and chains for roof

attachment, are supplied and the roof end of each hose is marked as follows:
"ATTACH THIS END TO ROOF"

ABRATEC
COMPOTEC® ABRATEC 400 is a multi-layer thermoplastic hose designed
around several POLYURETHANE liners, supported by a special abrasion resis-
tant Martensitic High Chrome Stainless Steel inner wire, with a weather-proof
and abrasion resistant outer cover made of Polymeric coated Polyester fabric.
Outer cover is also available in ELASTOTHANE®, a special PU coated fabric; its
UV, Ozone, Sunlight and weathering resistance, offers superior temperature and
abrasion characteristics.
All the different layers are wrapped together and tensioned between internal and
external wire spirals.

Specifically designed as a universal hose for suction and discharge of a

wide variety of abrasive products, both liquid, as industrial sludges, or
solids, as powders, cereals, plastic granules, chips, sugar, flour under
suction or pressure.

COMPOTEC® ABRATEC 400 hoses are used in such applications as transfer

for rail and road tanker loading and unloading, storage tanks, silos and in-plant
use. Extremely flexible, easy to handle and bend.

Commonly used for the transfer of COAL WATER SLURRY FUEL, (CWS or
CWSF), the new type of fuel which consist of fine particles of coal suspended in
water.
The main advantageof this new type of fuel, is that permits to use coal equiva-
lent to use liquid fuel or heating oil, but reduce the emission in the atmosphere
of harmful emissions; in addition, by converting the coal into a liquid form,
delivery and dispensing of the fuel can be simplified.
It is normally consisting of 55to 70% of coal particles and 30 to 45% of water.
It can be used in place of oil and gas in heating and Power station.
The particles to be efficient typically need to be less than 20 micrometres in
diameter. This means that the CWS is particularly abrasive and the a special
Composite hose is necessary to guarantee the right performances.

COMPOTEC® ABRATEC 400 is manufactured according to the requirement

specified by the European Standards EN 13765:2010 Type 3, and in accor-
dance with the recommendations of NAHAD Guidelines (NAHAD 600/2005).

COMPOTEC® ABRATEC 400 hoses are 100% antistatic and can be used for
suction or discharge.

Electrical continuity is achieved by the two wires bonded to the end fittings, this
helps dissipate accumulated charge and to avoid static flash.
Upon request it’s possible to manufacture ABRATEC 400 hoses in accordance
to the Directive 94/9/EC “ATEX”, with a special outer antistatic black cover and
ground connection.

COMPOTEC® ABRATEC 400 assemblies are fitted with an extensive range of

couplings readily available, externally swaged with Stainless, Galvanized Steel
or Aluminium ferrules.

COMPOTEC® ABRATEC 400 assemblies are tested at 1 ½ times rated working

pressures for safety and reliability, in accordance with EN ISO 1402. The secur-
ing ferrule, at one end of the hose, is permanently marked by engraving, with
manufacturer’s name, nominal bore, serial number and the test date. Full test
certification including Electrical continuity test, can be supplied on request.

Burst pressure indicated, is at ambient temperature when tested in accordance

with EN ISO 1402 (BS 5173 section 102.10:1990).

COMPOTEC® RANGE OF HOSE COUPLINGS

COMPOTEC® offer a complete range of fittings for their hoses. Many of them are specified in the list of this guide, but virtually any type, for any use
application can be supplied after consulting with our technical department. Adaptors, accessories, such as blank caps, dust plugs and delivery/filling
noozles are available from stock.

MATERIALS

All the hose fittings may be obtained in a variety of materials according to the compatibility with various media, including Stainless Steel, Brass, Alumin-
ium, Carbon steel, Polypropylene, PVDF, PTFE, and for special application, metal fittings can be coated with Ebanite, or a special PTFE flake-on coating.

METHOD OF ATTACHMENT

COMPOTEC® hoses are generally supplied with factory fitted end connections to customer requirements, from our workshop or from an authorised COM-
POTEC® distributor. All metal components, including end fittings, are electrically bonded to give full end to end electrical continuity. On specific request,
electrically discontinuous hose assemblies can be provided. For all type of end fittings, the part of the fitting that enters the hose and forms the means by
which the fitting is connected to the hose, is provided with scrolls on the surface, that correspond to the pitch of the internal helix wire of the hose. Then,
the end fittings will be attached to the hose by the use of a special designed lip seal, made from elastomeric materials depending on the chemical resis-
tance to the product conveyed, and a metal ferrule which can be externally swaged or crimped. This system guarantees a great safety to the complete
assembly.

coated fittings are commonly used in Petrochemical plants, desalination
plants, Offshore platforms and undersea applications.
EPTAFLON What is EPTAFLON?
It is a protective and corrosion resistant coating specifically designed for
fittings. The unique fluorocarbon and polymer combination protects fit-
tings against acids, solvents and salt spray.

These is a special thermo-shrinking PVC sleeve, which is fixed for ap-

ANTI OVER-BENDING proximately 200/300 mm at the hose end, to avoid bending underneath the
SLEEVE minimum bending radius. Available in Black colour in all sizes or in Red
Colour up to 3” .

These collars have been studied to reduce abrasion damage to the hose
when is in direct contact with the floor. Anti-abrasion collars are made in
abrasion resistant black polyethylene, directly fixed onto the outside diame-
ter of the hose, at intervals from 300 to 600 mm, thus preventing floor con-
ANTI ABRASION COLLAR tact.
Also available the new scuffing-rings in shock resistant black PLT. This
rings are manufactured in two halves and can be easily mounted on-site
thanks to stainless steel bolts and nuts.

External rope lagging can be provided to protect from abrasion as well as

ROPE LAGGING acts as a natural bending support. The rope also offers good insulation
properties, particularly useful in the cryogenic applications.

SCUFFRING
ANTI ABRASION COLLAR AND HOSE SUSPENSION
SADDLE

A new, revolutionary product that:

Protects hoses against abrasion

Provides improved hose handling
Improves safety

Abrasion Prevention: The innovative design of the Scuffrings®

prevents abrasion damage; hose contact with the ground or
foreign objects is minimized.

Improved Hose Handling: The Scuffrings® can be used to lift

or move the hose thereby greatly reducing the risk of hose
damage due to excess bending, kinking or cutting.

Improved Safety: the hose bending radius is protected and the Prolong hose life & increase safety
hose is kept from kinking. Using Scuffrings®, In addition to e-
xtending and prolonging the life of the hose, it will prevent from
kinking or otherwise becoming compromised. Hoist suspend or
manipulate hoses unproperly can be very dangerous.

Design & Installation:

Scuffrings® are produced in two different types of materials:

A. Rigid polyurethane foam, yellow color

B. Polyurethane elastomer in red color

The anti-abrasion Scuffrings®, manufactured as two halves, are

made of abrasion and shock resistant polyurethane. The two
halves can be easily assembled on-site using the stainless
steel bolts and nuts provided with the assembly kit. Simply pla-
ce Scuffrings® at the desired interval on the hose and then ti-
ghten the bolts.

SCUFFRING TROLLEY ®
Specification
The SCUFFRING® trolleys are designed to give the
intake hose generous ground clearance,
which minimizes the likelihood of the hose scraping
along the ground. This reduces damage and costly
replacements.
SCUFFRING® Hose Trolleys can be supplied in the
standard 2-wheel variant or the more stable 4-wheel
version to suit requirements. Hose trolleys are also
available with special mounting brackets to suit hy-
draulic stowage rails and can be supplied in different
sizes to accommodate various diameters of intake
hose.
Technical Data
The body of the unit is constructed from Expanded PU,
whilst the castors are abrasion resistant PU. The com-
bination of the two materials gives a robust long lasting
solution. Patent Design N° IT0276669
The trolley’s base is fabricated in steel and is robust
and durable . The swivelling castors are fitted with 100
or 125 mm diameter PU tyre wheels which can be
easily removed and replaced. The ends of the SCUF-

SAFEPULL
FRING® are flared to prevent sharp edges from dam-
aging the hose.

Safepull is a shock resistant black Polypropylene dust

cap with a confortable handle to allow an easy pulling of
hoses, out from the hose rack, or replacing in position on
tank truck’s.

The “large” diameter, protects the fitting arms and ears

from damage or accidental shocks, since it extends be-
yond the coupling itself.

The PP materiali is shock resistant, and suitable for the

majority of fuels and chemicals.

Available in all sizes from 1” to 4”.

INSULFLANGE
The purpose of the INSULFLANGE is to electrically separate two
flanges.
Is a new revolutionary system, used to prevent the flow of electro-
static charge to reduce sparking in hazardous environments
Is also used to control losses due to corrosion. Can be used to
control stray electric currents in piping at oil, gas, water, refinery
and chemical plants and increase the effectiveness of cathodic
protection systems and confine or eliminate electrolytic corrosion.
Is often used in petrochemical applications to electrically insulate
two mating flanges and to reduce the likelihood of creting a galva-
nic cell wich would result in corrosion of the flanges and pipework.
Is designed for the rigors of oilfield applications
Is designed in three different materials according to the application
Is made of high compressive strenght material for added reliability
For guaranteed reliability even if mishandled
No phenolic or asbestos materials used
Simple and easy to use, just to insert between the existing flanges
and use standard bolts to get a perfect insultation.
