Layout:
1. Introduction: Write general information about a city or a country like its name, location,
population, and if it’s a country then you write the name of its capital city. You also can
write about its independence and what is it famous of.
2. When to go: You name the seasons in this place and the duration of each season. You
describe the weather in each season them mention when is the best time to visit this place.
3. Things to do: Write the different activities you can do in this place and where to do them.
Write also about the famous places to visit.

Describing a place
Introduction:
Muharraq city is located in the kingdom of Bahrain in the Arabian Gulf. It is the third
largest city in Bahrain and was the capital until the year 1932. Around 190 thousand
people live in Muharraq city. The city is known of its traditional houses and narrow alleys.
The most famous places in Muharraq are Muharraq souq, Bahrain international airport and
Muharraq sports club.
When to go:
In Bahrain there are two main seasons, Summer and Winter, and two very short seasons,
Autumn and Spring. The Summer season is from May to September and it is very long, hot
and humid. The Winter is from December to February and it’s a bit cold and rainy. The
best time to visit Muharraq is from February to May when the weather is nice.
Things to do:
There are many things to do in Muharraq. Because it is an island, you can do many
sea activities like water sports, swimming and fishing.
You can go shopping in Seef Mall, Oasis Mall or the most famous shopping place,
Muharraq traditional souq.
Don’t forget to visit Amwaj Island and check the amazing shops, restaurants and
cafes there.

Unit 2: Determination:
Writing a personal blog
You have to write a personal introduction about yourself and then write 3 diary entries for
3 different dates, describing things you did and learned. Don’t forget to start with the
newest date because it’s an online blog (For example you can start with the 9th of October
in the second paragraph, then 3rs of October in the third paragraph, and write the 1st of
October as a heading for the last paragraph). You have to write the heading of each
paragraph. If you were not asked to write about a specific topic in the exam, you can
follow this layout:
Layout:
1- Introduction: Your name, age, nationality, hobbies and where are you studying right now.
2- Diary entry 3: start by writing the heading which will be a day and date. This has to be the
newest date. You can write about a place you visited and what you learned there.
3- Diary entry 2: write the heading (a day and date). You can write about a friend that you
met from a different culture. Write about her traditions, food, clothes and any other
cultural aspect.
4- Diary entry 3: You have to write the oldest date here. Write about a class you are taking to
learn something new. Write how you progressed by saying how difficult it was at the
beginning and how easy it is now.

Friday August 25:
Our class went to the Art Museum. I had a really good time there. The paintings and the sculptures
were very amazing and looked very realistic. I think it is very important to visit museums and learn
about other cultures. You can learn many things about a culture from its art. After that we had
lunch together. It was a lovely day.
Sunday August 6:
I really like the way people live here. Two weeks ago I had a new French friend. She invited me to
her house for dinner. Her house is very elegant. The food was so tasty and the table was so well
organized. I learned a lot of good things from French people, like eating healthy food and
exercising. I feel so happy.
Wednesday July 26:
At the moment I’m taking a painting class and it is wonderful. In the beginning I was so worried
because I don’t have much experience but now I am much better in painting. When I first came
here in June I wasn’t that good really.

Writing a review
In this unit you will be asked to write a review about a TV program, movie, play or a
book.
Layout:
1- Introduction: Name of book or movie - Kind (Drama / horror / action / documentary ..etc)
– Name of director if it’s a move or series, name of author if it’s a book – in which country
was it broadcasted if it’s a TV program, series, or movie, or where was it firs published if it’s
a book. Where can people watch it if it’s a TV program, series, movie or buy it if it’s a
book.
2- Write the summary (main events) of whatever you are writing about. What is it about.
3- If it’s a movie or series, you will write about the characters. Name then and describe them.
Then write more about the main character. After that write about the real actors. If you are
writing a review about a book you don’t write about the actors.
4- You end it by writing the reviews of the book or movie. You could write the grade of the
movie out of 10 (This movie review is 7 out of 10). You can write people’s reaction to the
book, series, movie or program. Did they love it or not. Then you write your personal
opinion and recommend people to watch, read it or not.

“Home Alone” is one of the best American movies ever. It is a comedy family movie that
was filmed in the USA in the year 1990. You can find it on the Youtube or watch it on TV.
The movie is about a boy called Kevin. His family went to France for holiday and left him
home alone by mistake. When two robbers tried to steal the house because they thought it
is empty, Kevin stopped them by setting many traps and getting the robbers in a lot of
trouble until they were caught by police. At the end the family came back home for him
once they realized he was at home.
The main character of the movie was Kevin who was a very smart and brave boy. The role
of Kevin was acted by the very talented actor Macaulay Culkin who was very famous child
actor in the 90’s because he was very funny and professional.
“Home Alone” is the most popular family movie ever. I recommend everyone to watch it.
And if you have watched it before, watch it again!

Natural Feature

Natural feature
“Jabal Addukhan” which meand the mountain of smoke is a hill that is located in
Skheer area south of Bahrain. It is called that because usually there is fog around it
because of humidity. Oil was found for the first time in Bahrain in the area around
Jabal Addukhan.
Jabal addukhan is the highest point in Bahrain with the height of 122 m above sea
level. The mountain is surrounded by many caves. Some old artifacts from the stone
age were found in those caves. There is a lot of petrol and natural gas there. The
area around it as a desert, so there are not a lot of plants, but it is high enough to
see the nearby beautiful view of the coast. People love to go there especially in
Winter and Spring seasons to camp. It is very nice to sit around fire in the cold
nights with family or friends to chat and listen to stories. Or you can go hiking there
in the open area and enjoy the fresh air and nice view.
Jabal aldukhan is one of the most beautiful open sites in Bahrain with its nice view
of the desert and sea. If you have not visited it before, you should do it and I am
sure you will like it a lot.

What makes you proud of your society
I live in Bahrain. It is a group of small islands and located in the Arabian Gulf.
Although it is a small country in size, it is very great. There are many things that
make me proud of my Bahraini society.
Bahraini society is known for its tolerance. Bahraini people are very kind,
welcoming, and helpful. There are a lot of people from different nationalities and
races living in Bahrain peacefully side to side with its people. If anyone is in trouble
and needs help, people of Bahrain will help quickly. Crimes rate is very low in our
society as people are religious and very proud of Islam. They respect and follow
Islamic laws that forbids crimes and calls for love, peace and respect. I am also
proud because we have free education and free medical care. Our country is
developing very quickly, but at the same time we are proud of our past and
traditions. We still have the same values our ancestors had many decades ago like
bravery and generosity.
As I said, I am very proud of my country and Bahraini society. My country has
given me a lot of things, and in return, I want to pay it back when I grow up by
becoming a good doctor who will serve the people and help all who need help.
