OIL & CHEMICAL SPILLS
What is Oil and Chemical Pollution?
The release of oil and other types of chemicals into Oil Spill
our waters can lead to huge problems such as killing
our wildlife, destroying habitats, and contaminating
our fresh water. Oil and Chemical Pollution in seas
and oceans can be related to Exodus for many
reasons (US Department of Commerce, National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). One of
these reason is that this is related to the plague of
blood. This happened when Aaron waved his rod
and all bodies of water in Egypt became into blood.
Chemical
This lead to many getting sick and not being able to
drink water. The verse which this is located is
Pollution
Exodus 7: 19. Also, this relationship is Exegesis
because the problem that was happening back then
is still happening today but now we are starting it.

Who is involved with this Issue?
Oil Spills can be very dangerous and Oil-Spill
environmentally threatening. In Canada the Cleanup
Canadian Coast Guard are responsible for
cleaning up the spills. Oil and other chemicals
mostly spill by accident from people making
mistakes, from equipment breaking down
overtime, or accidents that happen in water
by oil cargos. If the mess is already made it
would take a lot more people to fix because it
is very difficult to clean (Chow). This is
because the oil stays on top of the water but Contamination
after time starts to go down into the water
which makes our water contaminated.

What can be done to prevent the issue?
There are many ways we can prevent this issue of
having oil and other chemical spills. An example
of this would be to not fill the fuel tank of ships
100% but should fill close to 90% so it could be
harder to spill (Allison, et al.). Also, you should
recycle the oil you use and filter after use so it
might not dysfunction. Another way we can
prevent this issue is by inspecting storage tanks
as it is required by the law.

What is being done to help Oil/Chemical spills.
There are many ways that people are
helping to prevent oil and chemical
spills. An example of a person who
helped can be Samuel Kistler,who
invented the aerogel sponge in 1930.
This sponge is used to clean oil off of
rocks and animals (Ayers 1). Another
example of people helping are people
who are volunteering for all of the
non-profit organizations.

There have been many different inventions that have
been made to clean oil and chemicals spills. The first
invention i would like to talk about is a dispersant.
Dispersants can help clean oil and chemicals by speeding
up the decomposing process, and helps break down oil or
chemicals. (Narsaria 7). The next invention I would like
to talk about is autonomous sailboats. This invention can
be used to prevent oil from spreading, or monitor the

water for radiation. In my previous slide I talked about
a boom, an autonomous sailboat releases a boom when oil
spills. This sailboat is currently being used in rivers in autonomous
Fukushima (Treacy 9). The last thing I would like to talk sailboats -
about is not an invention, its an animal. Researchers at image link
Southeastern Louisiana University, have discovered that
the Rangia Clam have oil cleaning abilities. These clams
intake water with oil in it, and absorb the nutrients and
oil while spitting out clean water (Treacy 7).
What Progress is being made
Signs of Hope
Some signs of hope for oil and
chemical spills are:
● Many companies are switching to ● There are many websites educating
fuel efficient products, which people about oil and chemical spills,
means less oil is being shipped. An and petitions to stop offshore
example of this can be Tesla, drilling
which is making electric cars.
● There are many non-profit
organizations that clean oil and
chemical spills. An example of this
is American Red Cross
