The language of mathematics can describe many

situations in economics. Mathematical arguments are
logical and exact, and they enable us to work out in
precise detail the consequences of economic
hypotheses. This course provides you with the
opportunity to grasp the fundamentals of functions and
graphs, the derivative, and curve sketching and
optimisation.

Your convenor for this course will be, Martin Anthony.

Martin is a mathematician at the London School of
Economics and has been teaching there since 1990.

US LEARNERS: You may note some differences in

spellings throughout the course (i.e. colour, practise).
This is because the course was written in British
English.
