1-3. Note on Replacement of Lithium Battery
A lithium battery is mounted on the AT-196 board to backup the real time clock (RTC). If a battery comes to the lifetime,
then RTC stops. Therefore, replace the battery and re-set DATE/TIME on the C12 DATE page of the CCU
CONFIGURATION menu. (Refer to “Setup Menu” in the Operating Instructions.)
CAUTION
In replacing, ensure that the battery is installed with “+” and “-” poles connected to the correct terminals.
Improper connection may cause an explosion or leakage of fluid.
HXCU-FB80 1-6
1-4. Notes on Replacement of Circuit Board
The table below lists data retained in the EEPROM on respective boards.
Note
The part number listed in “Spare Parts” is for EEPROM which is not programmed. Therefore, program a new EEPROM
after replacement. For details, contact your local Sony Sales Office/Service Center.

1-5. Circuit Protection Parts
1-5-1. Thermistor
This unit is equipped with positive-characteristic thermistors (power thermistors) as circuit protection elements.
The positive-characteristic thermistor limits the electric current flowing through the circuit as the internal resistance
increases when an excessive current flows or when the ambient temperature increases.
If the positive-characteristic thermistor works, turn off the main power of the unit and inspect the internal circuit of the
unit. After the cause of the fault is eliminated and the positive-characteristic thermistor is cooled down, turn on the main
power again. The unit works normally. It takes about one minute to cool down the positive-characteristic thermistor
after the main power is turned off.
HXCU-FB80 1-8
1-6. Flexible Flat Cable and Coaxial Cable
This unit uses two types of connectors for flexible card wire.
Notes
• Bending a flexible card wire significantly shortens its lifetime. Handle flexible card wires very carefully.
• A flexible card wire consists of conductive surface and insulated surface. Note that the circuit does not work if a
flexible card wire is connected in wrong orientation of conductive surface and insulated surface.
• Do not insert the flexible card wire sideways.
• Make sure that the conductive surface of flexible card wires is free of dust and dirt.

1-7. Lead-free Solder
All boards mounted in this unit use lead-free solder. Be sure to use lead-free solder when repairing the boards of this
unit. A lead free mark (LF) indicating that the solder contains no lead is printed on each board. (Caution: Some printed
circuit boards may not come printed with the lead free mark due to their particular size.)
Note
• The lead-free solder melts at a temperature about 40 °C higher than the ordinary solder, therefore, it is recommended
to use the soldering iron having a temperature regulator.
• The ordinary soldering iron can be used but the iron tip has to be applied to the solder joint for a slightly longer
time. The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away if the heated tip is applied for too long, so be careful.

Section 2
Periodic Maintenance and Inspection
The photo receptive condition of the optical connector can be checked at OPTICAL CONDITION on the front panel of
this unit.
• When lit in green: Normal (-15 dBm and higher)
• When lit in yellow: Normal (-15 to -18 dBm)
• When lit in red: Abnormal (Less than -18 dBm)
When lit in red, be sure to clean the optical contact portions.
When lit in yellow, cleaning is recommended.
The attenuation of the photo-receptive level may cause transmission error between the camera and this unit. In the case
of attenuation, be sure to clean optical contact portions proceeding as follows.
Note
Clean optical contact portions of all devices to be connected.
Example:
• HD camera adaptor
• HD camera control unit
• Power supply unit
• Optoelectrical composite cable
• Joint adaptor
The NEUTRIK connector or LEMO connector is installed as the CAMERA connector of this unit. For the NEUTRIK
connector, refer to “2-1-1. Cleaning Connectors/Cables of NEUTRIK”. For the LEMO connector, refer to “2-1-2.

2. When the turn stops, pull out the remover in the straight line forcedly.
Note
The alignment sleeve can be removed/reinstalled with the sleeve itself attached to the tip of the remover. Great
care should be taken so as not to lose or damage the alignment sleeve.

Circuit Description
The AT-196 board mainly consists of system control, LAN connection, optical transmission, and 4K Upscale processing
circuits and contains the following interface connectors.
• SDI connector (for SDI input/output)
• RJ-45 connector (for LAN interface)
• Memory Stick interface (for service only)
This board is secured to the rear panel and is connected to the DPR-386 board with a flexible flat cable (45 pin) and a
fine-wire coaxial cable (50 pin).
The CN-3958 board contains the following connectors to relay the following signals processed on the DPR-386 board.
• VBS out 1/2 (BNC × 2)
• PIX out (BNC × 1)
• SYNC out (BNC × 1)
• RETURN VIDEO in 1/2 (BNC × 2)
• AUDIO out 1/2 (XLR 3 pin × 2)
This board is directly secured to the rear panel and is connected to the DPR-386 board through a 45-pin flexible flat
cable.
The CN-3968 board is connected to the AT-196 board and the PS-934 board from an 8-pin REMOTE connector for
connection to the remote control panel.
A panel power voltage of about 26 VDC is supplied from the PS-934 board. An overcurrent protection circuit is provided
on the PS-934 board.
Command signals with the panel are processed by the AT-196 board.
The CN-3972 board contains a D-sub 9-pin connector for TRUNK LINE interface and an RS-422A/RS-232C driver
circuit (IC004) and is connected to the DPR-386 board through a flexible flat cable.
HXCU-FB80 7-1
7-1-5. CN-3985 Board
The CN-3985 board contains a female XLR-5 intercom connector and is connected to the input amplifier on the SW-1736
board through a harness.
SDI output
Audio and synchronization signals are superimposed in the first processing circuit (IC600) and processed signals are
then converted to HD-SDI or SD-SDI signal in the parallel-to-serial converter circuit (IC809, IC810). The converted
serial signal is output from the rear panel of the CCU.
VBS output
The SD-YCD output signal from the video signal processing circuit is converted to the VBS signal in the encoder circuit
(IC1101). Each digital PIX output signal and VBS output signal are converted to analog signals and are output from the
rear panel of the CCU.
Synchronization circuit
Upon receiving the reference signal from the external device, this circuit performs synchronization coupling (gen-lock).
The LED-544 board contains 7-segment LEDs for displaying shutter speed and master gain. Display control is performed
from the SW-1736 board connected with board-to-board connectors.
The LED-545 board contains tally display LEDs (red and green). Display control is performed from the SW-1736 board
connected through a flexible flat cable.
The PS-934 board relays camera power and CCU power signals.
This board contains circuits for camera power ON/OFF control, overcurrent detection, output control, and remote output
DC-DC power.
If the ambient temperature of the PS-934 board becomes abnormal, “TEMP NG” appears disabling camera output.
HXCU-FB80 7-2
7-1-10. SW-1736 Board
The SW-1736 board contains a system configuration switch and a volume control circuit, and is controlled from the
DPR-386 board through the IIC communication.
This board is also equipped with the following functions.
• Tally (red/green) control circuit
• Status display LED (Cable open, CAM power, etc.)
• CCU menu operation switch and rotary encoder
• Switch and microphone amplifier for the front intercom
Front intercom microphone amplifier gain, bias power ON/OFF, balance/unbalance switching, and lock switch target
item selection are set by the CCU menu.
