(a) ½ (b) ¾ (c) 2/3 (d) 1 (Ans : (c) 2/3)
2. If a copper rod carries a direct current, the magnetic field associated with the current will be:
(a) Only inside the rod (b) Only outside the rod (c) Both inside and outside the rod (d) Neither
inside nor outside the rod (Ans : (c) Both inside and outside the rod)

3. A straight section PQ of a circuit lies along the X-axis from x= −a/2 to x=a/2 and carries a steady
current i. The magnetic field due to the section PQ at a point X = + a will be: (a) Proportional to
a (b) Proportional to a2 (c) Proportional to 1/a (d) Zero (Ans: (d) Zero)

4. The strength of the magnetic field at a point r near a long straight current carrying wire is B. The
field at a distance r/2 will be : (a) B / 2 (b) B / 4 (c) 2B (d) 4B (Ans: (c) 2B)

5. A particle carrying a charge equal to 100 times the charge on an electron is rotating per second in a
circular path of radius 0.8 metre. The value of the magnetic field produced at the centre will
be : (μ0=permeability for vacuum)

(a) 10−7μ0 (b) 10−17 μ0 (c) 10−6μ0 (d) 10−7μ0 (Ans: (b) 10−17 μ0 )

ASSERTION REASONING QUESTIONS

Here statement of assertion [A] is followed by a statement of reason [R]. Mark the correct choice.

A) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.

B) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

C) If assertion is true but reason is false.

D) If both assertion and reason are false.

1. ASSERTION: Magnetic field interacts with a moving Charge and not with a stationary charge.
REASON: A moving charge produces a magnetic field. (Ans: A)
2. ASSERTION: If two long wires, hanging freely are connected to a battery in series, they come
closer to the each other.
REASON: Force of attraction acts between the two wires carrying current. (Ans : D)
3. ASSERTION: The magnetic field intensity at the centre of a circular coil carrying current changes,
if the current through the coil is doubled.
REASON: The magnetic field intensity is dependent on current in conductor. (Ans: A)

4. ASSERTION: If a charged particle is moving on a circular path in a perpendicular magnetic field,
the momentum of the particle is not changing.
REASON: Velocity of the particle in not changing in the magnetic field. (Ans: D)
5. ASSERTION: A circular loop carrying current lies in XY plane with its center at origin having a
magnetic flux along Z-axis.
REASON: Magnetic flux direction is independent of the direction of current in the conductor.
(Ans : C)
