TOPIC: Global events of international
significance
► Aim: Global events of international significance:
► • Concept: Global event
- Sporting events: FIFA World Cup, Wimbledon, Comrades,
Tour de France, Olympic Games.
► - Other events: G7 Summit, Summits on climate change
(to be mentioned as examples, do not study the events as
such).
► • The positive and negative impact of global events on
international tourism
► • The impact of hosting a global event on
- domestic tourism in the host country
- the economy of the host country
► • The advantages and disadvantages for the host country
(within a tourism context): development in infrastructural
services, investment, foreign exchange income, the
multiplier effect
► Global Event An event which many different countries
take part and which draws interest and participation from
all over the world(International Sporting Events or
International Summits/Conventions )
► International Sporting Events An event in which many
different countries take part and which draws participants
and spectators from all over the world (Comrades
Marathon Olympic Games)

► International Summits/Conventions: Meetings of the
heads of different Governments and high-ranking officials
to discuss and make agreements on really important
global issues.(COP 25 International Convention on climate
change
► Host (host country or host nation) The country in where
the event takes place (COP 27 will be held between 7–18
November 2022 in Sharm El-Sheik in Egypt.)
► Delegates People that attend a summit or global
conference.(Representatives from countries Minister of
Finance etc.)
► Participants: People taking part in the event. The sports
people if it is a sports event; the managers; the people
attending the conference or summit. (Bafana Bafana
Coach & Management of the team)
► Spectators : People who come from all over the world to
watch the event (Tourist who travel internationally to
attend an international sporting event)
