For Ethiopia Exporters of Power Cable, Germany seems to be the most attractive market (in 2028)
in terms of export potential followed by United Arab Emirates (UAE), Israel, USA and Vietnam.
However, in terms of total import demand across all countries, USA occupies the top position.
Hence considering overall import demand, USA leads the importing demand but considering
Ethiopia as a partner, Germany provide high unmet demand potential as Compared to others for
2028.

Euro Cable Private Limited Company, an Ethio-Turkish joint venture established in 2007, is the
first private manufacturer of electrical cables in Ethiopia.
Demes Kablo Sanayi Ticaret Limited Şirketi, the Turkish partner in the enterprise, is a company with about
40 years of direct experience in the sector.
The owners of Glorious Private Limited Company, a renowned national trading company, are the other
major shareholders.
Euro Cable has a wide network of distributors and retail customers and a dominant market share in
the private sector.
The foreign partners’ expertise in engineering and manufacturing technology has been critically important
for the operations, building further on the best and latest relevant global science.
Euro Cable has always given the highest emphasis to excellence. Its products all comply with the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and other European standards, and the company has
obtained ISO9001 and ISO14001 certifications.
Consequently, it has been able to exploit the large and growing demand in Ethiopia for high-quality wires
and cables. Early on, in the absence of domestic manufacturing capacity, substandard and under-gage
imports dominated the market.
The threat to safety that they once posed is now largely gone. Thanks mostly to Euro Cable’s promotional
efforts, wires, and cables not meeting standard specifications are actually not locally competitive anymore.
The Company: Facilities
Euro Cable has one operational manufacturing facility in the Akaki-Kality Sub-Zone of Addis
Ababa, Ethiopia.
It is a 4,400m2 closed area lying on a 25,000-m2 plot of land. The company offices and a showroom are in
a convenient central Addis Ababa location. A new expansion project is also currently
nearing completion in Gelan, just south of the existing facilities. This will comprise 10,000m2 of
factory floor space, and other ancillary facilities, in a 20,000m2 compound.
The Products
The current product line consists of energy wires and 0.6/1.0kV low voltage cables.
The offered range will expand very soon, however, with the introduction of coaxial, data, and halogen-free
cables.
All manufacturing takes place in Ethiopia. Pricing is competitive in the market but with superior quality.
Marketing and sales now focus primarily on selected national distributors, large construction
companies, and numerous independent retailers.
In the medium to long term, though, Euro Cable plans to earn significant income from exports.
Please see the following pages for details about the available wires and cables, and their specifications. We
look forward to having you as a customer.

factories.
Raw Materials Used in Cable Manufacturing
1. Conductors
o Copper: High conductivity and widely used in power and communication
cables.
o Aluminum: Lightweight and cost-effective, often used in power
transmission.
2. Insulation Materials
o PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): Commonly used for insulation and jacketing.
o XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene): For high-temperature and high-
voltage applications.
o Rubber: Used for flexible and durable cables.
3. Sheathing Materials
o Protects the cable from environmental and mechanical damage.
o Common materials include PVC, polyethylene, and nylon.
4. Armoring Materials
o Metal layers (e.g., steel or aluminum) for protection in harsh
environments.
5. Optical Fibers
o Glass or plastic fibers used in fiber-optic cables for data transmission.
Cable Manufacturing Process
The cable manufacturing process involves several key stages:
1. Wire Drawing
o Copper or aluminum rods are drawn into smaller wires through a series of
dies.
2. Stranding
o Multiple wires are twisted together to form the conductor.
3. Insulation
o A layer of insulating material (e.g., PVC, XLPE) is applied to each
conductor.
4. Assembly
o Multiple insulated conductors are bundled together, depending on the
cable type.
5. Sheathing
o An outer protective layer (sheath) is applied to the assembled cable.
6. Armoring (Optional)
o Metal armoring is added for durability in industrial or outdoor
environments.
7. Testing and Quality Control
o Cables undergo strict testing for electrical, mechanical, and environmental
performance.
8. Packaging and Distribution
o Finished cables are coiled or spooled for easy transport.
Applications of Manufactured Cables
1. Power Transmission and Distribution
o High-voltage and low-voltage cables for electricity supply.
2. Telecommunications
o Fiber-optic and coaxial cables for internet, telephone, and communication
networks.
3. Construction
o Wiring for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
4. Transportation
o Cables for automotive, railway, aerospace, and maritime industries.
5. Energy
o Specialized cables for renewable energy systems like solar and wind
power.
6. Industrial Automation
