Objective:

At the end of the exercise, the students should be able to:

 Respond to questions related to destination research and supplier negotiation.

Materials:

 Microsoft PowerPoint
 Internet connection

Basic Principles:

Conducting a Destination Research

In the travel sector, it is important that a tour operator or travel agency is very much adept with destination
research. This is for them to be able to thrive in the challenging business of travel and tours. Currently, there
have been a lot of small agencies offering package holidays. Home-based travel agencies offer the same. If
bigger tour operators/travel agencies cannot do this, selling package holidays may be challenging for them.

Procedure:
1. Pair up with one of your classmates.
2. Conduct a destination research and present ways in negotiating skills with suppliers based on your
Task Performance Output Presentation (agree on which to focus on if both are coming from different
groups).
3. The first three (3) hours of the laboratory session (week 3) would be allocated for you to conduct your
research and make your PowerPoint presentation. Any finalization of details shall also be done during
this time. Practicing of presentation can also be done as long as within the schedule.
4. Refer to Pages 3-7 of 03 Handout 1 for the basics in conducting destination research and the
different areas of supplier negotiation.
5. Save your presentation on your Desktop with this filename format: Lastname_Firstname_03LE.pptx
(e.g., DelaCruz_Juan_03LE).
6. Output presentation, question and answer, and post mortem will be conducted in the second half of
the laboratory session (week 4).
7. Be ready to answer questions coming from your instructor while you are presenting your output.
8. Your output will be graded based on the rubric on the next page.
