CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this chapter is to investigate the previous works of researchers on consumer
perceptions of carrot chips original as a healthy and accessible snack. This chapter will present the
main recent works on the study of the benefits of carrot chips original to the consumers.
Overview of Carrot Chips Benefits
Difo Voukang Harouna & Tessema Astatkie (2024) investigated that carrot chips can provide
several health benefits, including boosting immunity. Carrots contain vitamin C, which aids the body in
producing antibodies to defend the immune system. The antioxidants in carrots also help protect the
body from harmful free radicals and strengthen the immune system. Carotenoids, polyphenols, and
vitamins in carrots have demonstrated immune-boosting qualities. Carrots, including carrot chips, can
aid in weight loss because they are low in calories and high in fiber. A cup of raw carrot sticks contains
only 50 calories, which is about 3% of the daily calorie budget in a 1,500-calorie diet. The fiber in
carrots helps you feel full and satisfied, which can reduce your overall calorie intake. Carrots also
contain nutrients like potassium and vitamin A that support weight loss. Their high water content can
also help you stay hydrated, which is important for metabolic functions and reducing hunger. Vitamin A
in carrots may also help reduce abdominal obesity. Carrots, including carrot chips, may help lower
cholesterol due to their fiber content and other beneficial compounds.
Carrots, including carrot chips, may help control diabetes due to their nutritional properties.
Carrots are considered a non-starchy vegetable, making them a healthy dietary choice for individuals
with diabetes. The fiber in carrots contributes to maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. The high fiber
content of carrots can help ease constipation and promote regular bowel movements. Fiber supports
the optimal function of the digestive system. Carrots contain antioxidants that combat harmful free
radicals in the body, potentially reducing the risk of various cancers.
Significance of Business Plan Engagement
This paper examines in detail the managerial approaches of a small group of owner-managers
who are operating within the approximately 3000-member Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS)
available in the UK and Ireland. The findings suggest that the type of environmental practices adopted
most willingly reflect the formality of management within the business and the owner-managers’ various
backgrounds, values, reasons to be in business, expectations from acting and their understanding of
the “environment”. It finds that the “Plan-Do-Check-Review” approach of most EMS does not easily
relate to the complex motivations and needs of the world of small business. A business plan serves as
a roadmap for a business venture, contributing to entrepreneurial success. It is a document outlining a
company's goals and strategies to achieve them, valuable for both startups and established companies.
"Harvard Business Review" found that entrepreneurs who write formal plans are 16% more likely to
achieve viability than those who don't.
A business plan allows for careful consideration of ideas before significant investment and
highlights potential obstacles to success. It also provides a tool for seeking objective feedback and
helps ensure that a company’s executive team remains aligned on strategic action items and priorities.
Beyond data collection and writing, the planning process can play a role in routinizing the initial
practices of entrepreneurs.
When writing a business plan, you should keep the following points in mind:
Industry, product, the business, and success factors: This section should provide a
current outlook, as well as future trends and developments.
Be specific: A business plan is simply not of value if it uses vague references to high
demand, carefully set prices, and other weak phrasing. It must show hard numbers
(properly referenced), actual prices, and real data acquired through proper research.
This is the only way to ensure the plan is credible.
Always indicate the source: If a statement is included that presents something as a fact
when this fact is not generally known, always indicate the source. Unsupported
statements damage credibility.
Provide the complete perspective: Always provide the complete perspective by
indicating the appropriate time frame, currency, size, or another measurement.
If using a percentage figure, indicate to what it refers: Otherwise, the figure is
completely useless to a reader.
If the plan includes an international element, indicate which currencies the costs,
revenues, prices, or other values are quoted in.
Sensory of Acceptability of Carrot Chips
Ahmad Sulaeman, Judy A. Driskell (2010) consumer acceptances of the product's color,
uniformity, overall look, odor, saltiness, sweetness, overall flavor, crispiness, oiliness, overall texture,
and overall acceptability were assessed after the creation of deep-fried carrot chips, a high-provitamin
A carotenoid snack. Eighty-nine consumer panelists, both male and female, aged 19 to 45, participated
in the survey. They were Americans from the U.S. Plains states and Southeast Asians. They received
good ratings for color, consistency, and odor. The ratings for sweetness and saltiness were almost
about right. Oiliness was assessed as slightly oily, and crispiness as good.
Py (2002) following development of deep-fried carrot chips, a high provitamin A carotenoid-
snack, consumer acceptances for color, uniformity, overall appearance, odor, saltiness, sweetness,
overall flavor, crispiness, oiliness, overall texture, and overall acceptability of the product were
evaluated. Eighty-nine consumer panelists consisting of Americans from the Plains states of the United
States and Southeast Asians, males and females, 19–45 years, participated in this study. Color,
uniformity, and odor were rated as good. Saltiness and sweetness were rated as nearly about right.
Crispiness was rated as good, and oiliness as slightly oily. Generally, the product was acceptable to
both types of consumer panelists, American and Southeast Asian, as shown by their ratings on overall
appearance, overall flavor, overall texture, and overall acceptability. The differences in acceptance
among country, gender, and country gender groups were statistically not significant.
Importance of Knowing the Benefits of the Product
In order to conquer your competitors, it’s crucial to voraciously learn all there is to know
about your products and their place in the market. Those who are successful are lifelong learners who
gain mastery over even the smallest details of their offering. That’s because knowledge is one of the
strongest tools at a leader’s disposal. Let’s explore why.
It enables better customer service
Customers like knowing that they can rely on you whenever they have questions about your
products. If you aren’t completely knowledgeable about the minutiae of your products and how they
relate to others in your field, you won’t have the answers to all of your customers’ questions. As a
result, it’s impossible for you to provide ideal customer service.
On the other hand, when you know all about your products, guiding customers through their
difficulties becomes a breeze. Knowledge allows you to build better relationships with your customers,
which in turn helps ensure they’ll stick with you.
It stems from passion
Eugene Gold (2020) when you’re passionate about something, you become naturally curious
about it. So, when you care about your products, you should feel driven to learn all there is to know
about them. The opposite is true as well. If you don’t know much about your products, then you
probably aren’t all that passionate about them.
Nothing contributes to success more than loving what you do. If you don’t care about your
products enough to know them inside and out, you should ask yourself why. The relationship between
knowledge and passion isn’t only useful for determining if your heart is really in your work, though.
Many people, whether they realize it or not, associate knowledge with passion. When you are
able to speak in precise terminology and provide answers to all of their questions, customers sense that
you really care about what you’re doing. You want customers to see you as someone who is
passionate and motivated. Customers will know that you’ll be there for them when things go south and
feel safer choosing your products. They’ll also know that you’ve put a lot of effort into creating
exceptional products of which you’re proud. Gaining knowledge is one of the fastest ways to impress
upon those around you just how capable you are.
It has become common for people who want to be entrepreneurs to replace knowledge with
charisma and offer vague promises instead of valuable information. In my experience, they do not
succeed. Customers value passion over apathy and want to work with those who showcase a complete
understanding of their work. When you know your products, it becomes easier to sell, provide support
and attract attention. That means one of the most effective things any leader can do to ensure success
is to learn everything about their products.
CONCLUSION
Finally, because carrot chips contain critical vitamins, minerals, and fiber, they are a nutrient-
dense snack suited for people of all ages. They are high in antioxidants such as beta-carotene, which
promotes overall health, eye health, and immune system function. Furthermore, due to their versatility
and ease of preparation, they can be utilized by persons with a wide range of dietary requirements and
preferences. Carrot chips are a tasty and healthful snack for people of all ages due to their natural
sweetness. Adults who want a healthier alternative to packaged snacks might enjoy carrot chips.
Because of their convenience and health benefits, they are a wonderful choice for encouraging
healthier eating habits in a wide range of people.
