Bene ts of learning a new language.
As a South Korean, my relationship with English was always quite bumpy. Although my
acquaintance with the language goes back as long as I can remember, every day with English is
still di cult. However, despite these di culties, as my pro ciency in English increased, I
experienced the bene ts that came from learning a new language, and through this article, I hope
to introduce some of them.
In today’s world, where the physical barriers are no longer an obstacle to communication, learning
a new language has something very special to o er: an ability to better understand another
culture. This is possible because a language has a deep relationship with its culture. For example,
a language may have words that represent a unique cultural practice. The Persian word ‘tarof’
represents the polite gesture that promotes equality in hierarchical culture. A common example of
this would be two Iranian friends ghting over each other to pay the bill for their lunch. No English
word embodies this exact meaning while preserving the cultural nuances under it. Unless you
learn Perish, it would be di cult to fully understand this unique culture.
Furthermore, once you learn a new language, learning another one becomes easier. During the
process of learning, the general understanding of linguistic features, such as vocabulary and
grammar, increases. This knowledge can greatly assist you next time when you choose to learn
another language. Also, learning a language stimulates neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain to
change through growth and reorganisation, which can improve your learning skills, combat
depression, and engage in activities more thoughtfully.
Moreover, according to a report released by the New American Economy (NAE), the demand for
bilingual workers is rising, showing a great jump from 240,000 job advertisements aimed at
bilinguals in 2010 to 630,000 in 2015. Also, a paper that was included in the journal Empirica
indicates that, compared to single-language speakers, a person who can speak a foreign
language has a wage premium of 11% on average. This vindicates that learning a new language
can also help your career advance in the future.
All these bene ts of learning a new language can provide an explanation for the worldwide
phenomenon of Indians emerging as the leaders of giant cooperations. Their bilingual ability
certainly gave them the upper hand against their monolingual competitors and put them in their
current positions. Like them, it is possible for us to harness the positive e ects of learning a new
language. All it takes is one word after another. One step at a time.

No more Super Depor.
In the Spanish La Liga, only a few teams have dominated and won it outright. Barcelona and Real
Madrid have contributed a combined total of 26 wins ever since 1991, with legendary footballers
such as Messi and Ronaldo and current world-class players like Pedri and Bellingham. Atletico
Madrid has won three times over the past 30 years.
However, when you look at the 4th place, it is lled with teams with many tragic back stories.
One such is the tragic downfall of Deportiva de la Coruna, a team that has made its mark on
Spanish football has a long and proud history. It has a record of eight Copa de Rey wins, one
Spanish Super Cup and one La Liga championship. The recent years have been unkind to the
team, and they now nd themselves in the third tier of Spanish football, competing with local
clubs and reserve teams of the bigger football clubs. The fall of Deportivo de la Coruna is a story
of complacency, mismanagement, and nancial di culties. In the late 90s and early

2000s, the team was lled with talent, including the likes of players like Roy Makaay, Juan Carlos
Valeron and Mauro Silva, who were instrumental in their success.
As time went on the other hand, the team failed to invest in new talent and relied too heavily on
their ageing stars.
Furthermore, the team was plagued by nancial di culties. All these factors meant that at the end
of the 2013-14 season, the team was relegated from the Spanish Premier Football League.
for the rst time in a generation. The team's former president, Augusto Cesar Lendoiro, was
accused of nancial mismanagement,
and the team was forced to sell their best players to stay a oat, which created a vicious cycle.
This eventually led to the team having underquali ed players. Despite these di culties, the
team managed to win promotion back to the Spanish Premier Football League in the 2014-15
season.
However, their return to the Premier League was short-lived. They kept on performing dismally
every season. The fall of Deportiva de la Coruna is a cautionary tale for all football clubs. It
highlights the importance of investing in new talent.
avoiding complacency and proper management. It is a reminder that success in football is not
guaranteed, and that even the biggest teams can fall from grace. The fall of Deportivo de la
Coruna is a tragedy for Spanish football. One wonders what it could have been if the team did
things di erently.
As of now, they got out of the third division and are now in La Liga 2.
Promotion from there guarantees them another shot in La Liga. I just hope that the team will nd a
way to bounce back and return to their olden, glorious times.

The Role of Youth in Promoting Environmental Sustainability.
"The oceans are rising, and so are we. We have to stand up for what is right. The youth of this
world are rising up and calling for action.” is a quote by Jane Goodall, which expresses the power
that youth holds and the critical role they play in shaping a sustainable future.
With pollution, resource depletion, and climate change, the world faces urgent challenges. We
need sustainable practices now more than ever. The decisions we make today and the actions we
take will
shape the future of our planet. With this power comes the responsibility to drive change in
environmental movements, bringing energy, passion, and innovation to build a sustainable future
for the next generations.
Education is crucial for equipping the next generation to tackle urgent environmental challenges.
It shapes young minds to prioritise the planet's well-being. Educational institutions must include
sustainability in their curricula. They should o er activities, workshops, and courses to promote
environmental awareness.
For instance, the EcoLeaders program by GreenFuture shows the power of education. The
program was built as an initiative to cultivate people, especially young leaders who can be actual
motors in
ghting and creating awareness on environmental protection, conservation, or sustainability.
Programs usually include education, leadership development, and community engagement
activities.
to give participants the skills needed to implement environmental projects in their communities;
rally behind sustainable practices.
The impact of programs like these doesn’t just stop within the classroom. Youngsters can impact
their peers and communities beyond the classroom. By urging friends and family to adopt eco-
friendly
habits, young people can start a chain reaction that spreads beyond their local circle. Youth
activism has also played a crucial role in driving policy changes. Movements like Fridays for

Future and the Sunrise Movement have successfully pushed environmental issues onto the
political
agenda.
These movements showcase the power of youth in advocating for stricter environmental
regulations and inspiring global action.
Despite their enthusiasm and commitment, young people face several challenges in promoting
environmental sustainability. A major barrier here is access to resources and funds. This is a huge
problem because thousands to millions of youth-led initiatives continue struggling with funding.
Another challenge is the generational gap. Older generations may resist the ideas and demands of
younger people. This can lead to weak political support for youth-driven policies. In some
regions,
Young activists even face backlash. Some see their e orts as disruptive, even threatening. This is
not to forget that environmental issues can be emotionally heavy, and young activists may nd it
too.
much. The vast challenges and even the slow change can be frustrating. This makes it di cult to
remain active for long periods of time.
Regardless, young people continue to advocate for major policy reforms. They achieved this by
protesting, striking in climate rallies, and working with decision-makers. Those voices forced
stricter
environmental regulations such as the Paris Agreement, which involves nearly all countries
committing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and regularly updating their climate action plans
to achieve these goals, to be pushed through.
Youth-led movements have in some nations exercised absolute control over the policy.
For instance, Young people have been involved in draughting U.S. Green New Deal. It
demonstrates what muscle they ex around forcing heavy-handed environmental laws. These
initiatives have resulted not only in strict policy changes but also a more sustainable conversation
within the public.
Involving youth in policy-making processes results in environmental policies that encapsulate the
passion and innovation embedded in them. This will be fundamental for building holistic
sustainability policies with the youth and policymakers. The topic of contribution from youth to
create environmental sustainability is multifaceted and important. Young people contribute greatly
to the sustainability movement, from leading innovative projects to in uence policy.
In order for them to achieve their full potential, they need support in
the form of resources and an environment that promotes inter-generational collaboration so that
their voices are heard when determining policy. With these mounting environmental challenges,
the
energy and creativity of our youth will undoubtedly play an important role in taking us towards a
sustainable tomorrow.

The role of literature in shaping society.
The Great Gatsby, Catcher in the Rye, Moby Dick, Pride and Prejudice, To Kill a Mockingbird, The
Odyssey is some of the most popular and in uential written works, all having signi cant impact on
literature and culture, spanning a range of locations and eras. Literature as a term is broad and
widely encompassing; it includes various forms of written
works such as novels, poetry, drama, short stories, and essays, which are all valued for their
artistic and intellectual worth.
For centuries now, literature has been used as a tool, long serving as a mirror to society and its
people, re ecting our values, evolution, con ict, and growth, it not only has the ability to capture
the essence of an era, it can also shape societal norms and ideas. The role of Literature in
shaping society is multifaceted, from fostering certain aspects of us as humans, creating empathy
and understanding, inspiring change, or preserving culture and heritage.

One of the most signi cant ways literature helps shape society is through it’s ability to broaden
one’s perspective, reading in detail about the world through stories from another character’s point
of view, delving into the lives and experiences of a character from a di erent background, readers
gain insight into worlds, problems, and ideals beyond their own. To Kill a
Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, gives us an a ecting narrative into racial injustice in the
American south, through the eyes of the protagonist, Scout Finch, we witness the complexities of
prejudice and the courage required to face them.
Seeing issues presented in this form challenges any ingrained biases and encourages readers to
consider these
problems from viewpoints other than their own, such empathetic thinking is crucial to foster
inclusivity and a more understanding society.
When it comes to criticising societal norms or bringing about social change, literature plays a
pivotal role here as well; many written works act as catalysts for reform by highlighting injustices
and proposing alternate theories and visions for society.
Charles Dickens’s ‘A Tale of two cities’ set in pre-revolutionary France, critiques the social
inequalities and civil unrest of the time period, urging readers to think of the consequences of
such disparities. Similarly,
George Orwell’s ‘1984’ o ers a chilling depiction of totalitarianism, serving readers a warning of
the dangers of unchecked governmental power. These works do not merely re ect on societal
issues, they encourage readers to question and, if possible, to act upon
them. By presenting alternate viewpoints and exposing societal aws, literature has the power to
inspire movements for social and political change.
Moreover, literature preserves cultural heritage and serves as a repository for memory and history,
through the written word, societies document their history, traditions, beliefs, and values.
Historical epics like ‘The Iliad’ and ‘The Odyssey’ impart glimpses into ancient Greek culture as
well as in uence western literary traditions and thoughts. Such works are
instrumental in maintaining cultural continuity and ensuring that diverse histories and perspectives
are remembered and valued. By preserving these narratives, literature helps societies retain their
sense of identity amidst a constantly evolving world. Alongside preserving cultural values,
literature has the potential to envision the future possibilities and inspire innovation, the genre of
science ction, or ‘Sci-Fi’, pushes the
boundaries of human imagination by exploring futuristic scenarios and technological
advancements.
Simultaneously, literary works like Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’ explore
ethical and philosophical questions about science and development and its role in society.
The impact of literature isn’t always straightforward or universally accepted; its interpretation can
vary widely, and its in uence can be both positive and negative.
While some works may challenge oppression and promote social justice; others may reinforce
harmful stereotypes or regressive ideologies. The reception of literature is in uenced by prevailing
social attitudes and norms as well as individual perspectives, which means that the impact can be
complex.
In conclusion, literature plays a profound role in shaping society by fostering empathy, critiquing
social norms, preserving cultural heritage, and envisioning future possibilities. Through its diverse
forms and themes, literature engages with the fundamental aspects of human experience,
encouraging readers to re ect on their own values and the world around
them.
While the in uence of literature can vary, its capacity to inspire, challenge, and preserve ensures
its enduring relevance in the ongoing evolution of society.

Whether it’s from your family, friends, teachers—or sometimes even just from yourself, the
pressure to excel, to be the best, can feel overwhelming for most of the time. It felt like the roller
coaster of my life had reached its highest point and I was bracing for the inevitable drop. Entering
the AS level (11th grade) made these pressures my undeniable reality. The time of easy study left
behind while demanding schedules and timetables took the limelight of everyday.
The sudden shift had caught up to me, and I wondered why or even how
Everything was changing so fast. The pressure level from 9th had doubled in 10th, and the
pressure in 10th multiplied in AS. I felt like I was trapped in
quicksand, and every struggle seemed to pull me in deeper.
Managing this change became crucial for me, and I quickly realised that a balanced schedule was
more important than ever. If a strict timetable isn’t your thing, setting deadlines are equally helpful.
For me, in art, every submission had a deadline.
This allowed me to track my progress and complete my work on time. It helped me allocate my
time e ectively and have a realistic balance according to my capacity. Have you ever found
yourself in the middle of back-to-back exams, wondering if there was something you could have
done di erently, rather than just wishing you’d studied more? If so, you’re not alone—we’re all in
the same boat.
Academic stress isn’t a new concept, but it often feels like one when
you’re only taught how to cope with it when you’re on the verge of giving up. That’s how I felt too,
until I discovered ways to manage my stress.
I learnt to prioritise myself so that I could stay focused and achieve my goals inevitably.
However, it wasn't simply the sudden change in routine that caught up.
with me; it was also the endless stress that came with it. There were times
When I felt swamped by the staggering number of pages to read, pointers to learn, concepts to
develop, and the pressure to excel in whatever subject I had chosen. Last-minute cramming may
work for some, but it didn’t help me at all. When I had to give my term-end exams. I couldn’t
remember all the chapters. Topics and question styles after studying for 6 hours straight. All I
could think of as a result of it was how anxious I felt about running out of time, and I
completely blanked out.
These intense study sessions were becoming too
much to bear, and I realised that a di erent approach was long due to
safeguard both my mental and academic well-being.
My desperation to keep going led me to discover the most e ective strategies to avoid taking on
too much at once.
I came to understand the importance of prioritising oneself and began to look forward to learning
instead of viewing it as heavy duty.
For instance, I discovered that taking little, frequent breaks
throughout my study sessions was bene cial, but there were times when all I needed to do was
take a total step back to recharge. I either took an hour-long break during which I did nothing but
sleep or I just relaxed while listening to music.
This method not only helped me become enthusiastic while gaining
knowledge, but it also kept me motivated, focused, and driven to comprehend what the books
said.
The best way to handle academic stress was by using the best of both
worlds—online and o ine resources and asking for help when needed. I got help from friends,
family, and even teachers, allowing my performance to drastically improve. Any concept I was
having problems understanding was gladly explained to me by my teachers, and support from my
family every time I felt down or too overwhelmed was also o ered.
As useful as textbooks and notes were, I also valued the knowledge I gained from educational
websites, YouTube, past papers, and marking schemes.
With these tools, I strengthened my advantageous points and identi ed weaknesses, boosting my
overall academic performance.
As I prepare for the future, I re ect on how far I’ve come. The academic roller coaster I'm on is still
in full swing, with its constant ups and downs. The pressure felt is real, but with the right
strategies, it’s manageable. The sudden surge in stress taught me the importance of balancing

books and breaks. It’s not just about working yourself to the bone but nding an approach that
works best for you.
I hope the tips I’ve shared help you as much as they have helped
me. I’m con dent I’ll be ready when AS and A2 level boards arrive, facing
pressure with calmness, determination, and con dence instead of giving up.
