Members of the Institution
The members of the Institution shall consist of all persons from time to time admitted, elected or
transferred to any class of membership in accordance with the Constitution of the Institution.
Register of Membership
(a) The name and address of every member of the Institution shall be entered in the Register
maintained at the Headquarters of the Institution in the appropriate class of membership
together with the name of the Branch (if any) to which he is attached and such other
particulars as the Council may from time to time prescribe.
(b) It is the responsibility of each member to advise the Executive Secretary of any changes
in his designation or address.
Rights of members not transferable
The rights and privileges of each member of any class shall be personal to himself, and shall not be
transferable or transmissible by his own act, or by operation of law.
Rights of a member limited to those of his Class of Membership
No member shall, by reason of membership of the Institution, be entitled to any rights or privileges
other than those which, by Constitution, attach to the specific class of members of the Institution to
which he belongs.
Members to sign Form A
The Institution may admit hereafter any person to anyone of the categories listed under Sub-section
3.01 of the Institution’s Constitution who may be qualified and elected and such persons shall sign
Form “A” or such form to the like effect as may from time to time be authorised by the Council.
Visiting members
The Council may admit as a visiting member any person who, being at least a Corporate Member
of an Engineering Institution, Institute or Society recognised by the Council, is a bona fide visitor to
Tanzania. He shall take no part in the governance of the Institution and the period of his visiting
membership shall not be extended beyond a maximum of six months in respect of any visit to
Tanzania.

Below are the procedures to join/upgrade IET membership;

c) Get one Proposer and one supporter (who are IET Corporate members) to sign your filled membership form
d) Prepare and attach your detailed CV
e) Attach your academic certificates (O’level, A’level, Diploma, Degree, Masters, PhD., etc)
f) Attach your professional Certificates (ERB, ACET, NEMC, EWURA, IMech, ICE, ASCE, etc)
g) Submit the form with an application fee of TShs 5,000/- for Graduate membership applicants and Tshs
10,000/- for other classes.
h) Entrance fee for Fellow and Senior Member (TShs. 20,000/-), Other classes (TShs. 15,000/-), Graduates
(10,000/-).
IET classes of membership
Sn Class of membership and age limit Annual Fee TShs.
1. Graduate Member (GIET) – Has three (3) years after graduation, and 30,000
has 21 years of age. The age limit is 40 years of age.
2. Member (MIET) – Has three (3) years of practical experience, and has 65,000
25 years of age; (Free ID-8 PDUs)
3. Senior Member (SenMIET) – Has eight (8) years of professional 75,000
experience after having being elected Member, and has 33 years of age (Free ID-8 PDUs)
4. Fellow (FIET) - Has ten (10) years as an active member and has had a
position of superior responsibility for 5 years in the practice of
engineering and has 36 years of age;
Note:
Fellows shall also submit a citation detailing; personal particulars and
qualifications, his contribution to IET, and his contribution to the 85,000
engineering profession. The elected Fellow shall give; a Fellowship (Free ID-8 PDUs)
lecture or publish a paper in a respectable Journal or present a paper
in a meeting organized by IET in his area of competence within two
years after the election. Failure to do so shall result in the honour being
withdrawn.
5. Affiliate member (Aff. MIET) – Has successfully completed and passed
an approved Technicians Course and has three (3) years of practical 40,000
experience in the field of engineering.
6. Affiliate Fellow (Aff. FIET) – Has 10 years as an active Affiliate member. 40,000
7. Affiliate Graduate (Aff. GIET) – Technician graduate of any engineering 30,000
discipline.
8. Affiliate Students (Aff. St. IET) – Taking a Technician or similar course Contact

10. Companions (CompIET) – Not being an engineer by profession but has
rendered important services to engineering in the field of science, 40,000
education, commerce, finance, or law.
11. Associate (AIET) – Has at least 5 years of practical experience in a
position of responsibility related to engineering but is not qualified for 40,000
admission as a corporate member.
12. Associate member (AMIET) – Has three (3) years of practical
experience and a holder of a degree, diploma, or license of a University 40,000
or school of engineering but not meeting the academic requirements (Free ID-8 PDUs)
to be a Member (MIET), and has 24 years of age.
13. Associate graduates (AssGIET) – Graduate of any engineering discipline
but does not qualify to be a graduate member, and has 20 years of age. 30,000
14. Affiliate Firms (Aff. FirmIET) – Comprise of engineering consulting
firms, institutions of higher learning, or engineering Under review
organisations/companies that have at least one corporate member or
at least five corporate members employed by the firm.
