2025 LAWNA SUNDAY SCHOOL OVERVIEW SEMINAR
LAWNA Sunday School Superintendent’s Opening Remark,January 4, 2025.
1. Two Unique Features of 2025 Sunday School
a. Unified Sunday School Programme for all Territories in Nigeria
b. Topic of Study is the Fundamental Doctrines of the church beginning with Tenet
No 1 in 2025
2. God’s Answer to Yearnings for Teaching Doctrine in the Church
a. A general decline in the teaching of doctrines in the church observable in the church
in the recent times.
b. The decision to recite the Tenets of thc church every Sunday before the sermon did
not stem the tide.
c. The reprint of the book ‘One Lord One Faith’ by LAWNA authorities was also
not strong enough to reverse the bad trend
d. The recent decision by NEC is God’s answer to the yearnings of dedicated members
of the church to restore us to the position of the early disciples who filled Jerusalem
with their doctrine.
3. Manual for All Members
a. The 2025 Sunday School is a marvelous exposition of Tenet No 1.
i. It is a booklet every member of the church should have
ii. It is a booklet to be kept beyond 2025 as a reference manual.
iii. It will improve our knowledge of the church and our faith in God.
iv. The manual will be a powerful instrument for evangelism.
3
4. Supplementary Booking by the end of January 2025 for Collection by February
Meetings.
a. In the light of the above, supplementary booking should be made by each Area to
cover those who should have this manual but were not provided for in the earlier
booking, which was meant for Sunday School Teachers only.
b. These fresh bookings are needed by January ending so that printing can be
completed before February/March Council Meetings.
c. Areas may budget for copies for evangelism as their financial strength permits.
5. The Charge to Sunday School Teachers
a. In the light of the above, Sunday School Teachers are not only to prepare to teach
effectively, but also to learn more about the doctrine of the church themselves.
b. The teachers should also use this opportunity for vigorous evangelical push to get
more members of the church as well as people outside the church to attend the
Sunday School.
c. The need to pray for the power of the Holy Ghost cannot be over-emphasized
6. The Video of the book of Esther.
a. The production has already started and we expect it to finish by April 2025.
b. The cost has escalated to N30m and so our contributions which stands at about
N20m now must continue this year.
7. Outstanding Debts by Areas
a. We have had to withhold supply of new manuals to Areas which have outstanding
debts until they clear the debts.
b. This policy will continue from now on so that we can serve you well

A BRIEF OUTLINE OF 2025 NATIONAL SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSONS AND
TIPS ON HOW TO TEACH THEM
I. INTRODUCTION
The main goals of this presentation are:
1. To explain briefly the lessons contained in this year's National Sunday School
Manuals.
2. To offer some Tips or Guidelines on how to teach the lessons effectively in order to
achieve the desired results.
NOTE: Lesson one (1) of the manual shall be used as our Reference Material for this
Overview presentation.
II. CHANGES IN THE PRESENT MANUAL
In this year's manuals, we shall come across some changes in the lesson formats, use of
language or vocabularies, but these changes do not have any significant effects on the
quality and content of the manuals.
III. THEME & SUB-THEMES
Unlike our former book teaching format, this year's teaching is topical. It is doctrinal in
nature and the THEME is therefore taken from Tenet No 1 of TAC, ie. "The Unity of
the Godhead and the Trinity of the Persons Therein".
IV. LANGUAGE AND FORMAT
The manuals are printed in English, Yoruba, Hausa and French languages for adult and
children classes. Other languages may still follow later if the need arises.
The manuals begin with the introductory lesson and then followed by forty-two (42)
other lessons which are expected to be covered in forty-three (43) Sundays.

V. DIVISIONS OF THE LESSONS AND HOW TO PRESENT THEM
1. THE CENTRAL THEME
Each lesson contains the central theme, which is "THE FUNDAMENTAL
TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH" before the statement of the specific topic to be
taught.
This repetition of the central theme in each lesson is necessary at this initial stage for
the purpose of emphasis.
2.THE TOPIC
Each lesson has its own topic. For example, the topic of lesson one (1) in this year's
manual is "GOD OF CREATION".
Teachers should lead the students to see how God has revealed His existence through
His creative works. E. g. the sky, the sun, moon, stars, rivers, plants, animals, human
beings etc.
Teachers should lead the students to realize that no creature would have been in
existence without a Creator, and that Creator is God.
3.THE TEXT
The "text" as used in the manual also means the "Bible Passage" to be read for the
lesson. In Lesson one (1) of this year's manual, the texts to be read are: Psalm 104: 5-6;
19: 1-6.
Teachers should lead the students to read the given text(s) or Bible passage(s) aloud in
the class. Reading errors should be corrected immediately without victimizing the
readers or bullying on them.
4.THE MEMORY VERSE
Each lesson contains the appropriate memory verse. For example, the memory verse for
lesson one (1) is taken from Psalm 19:1.
6
Students should be encouraged to learn these memory verses and memorize them.
However, cramming should be discouraged.
Teachers should stress and explain the relationships between the topics and the memory
verses.
5.LESSON OBJECTIVES
Unlike before, each lesson in the present Sunday School manual has more than one
objective. Teachers should work on the various objectives but still find time to locate
and emphasize the main or central objective in each lesson. This can be done by
inference.
For example, the central objective in lesson one (1) of this year's manual is objective No
3. The objective states: "To explain how the existence of God is revealed in creation".
6.INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
Although each lesson prescribes a set of instructional materials that could be used, but
individual teachers can use their own discretion to improvise and use the materials
which they can handle very well and which can be made available in their local
environments. Such materials should also be suitable for the students and relevant to the
lesson.
7. LESSON INTRODUCTION
This is the GATEWAY to every Lesson. A well presented introduction will not only
arouse the interests of the students, but will also captivate them to want to pay attention
to their teacher as the lesson is going on.
In this respect, teachers can start a new lesson by briefly referring to the previous one.
This idea will enable the students to see the link between the previous and the current
lessons.
8.THE SUBJECT MATTER
7
Also known as "Lesson Exposition" in our past publications, is an expansion of the
lesson objectives. It contains all the points to be taught as well as the relevant
experiences to be shared in the class in order to accomplish the lesson objectives.
Teachers should study the lessons to be taught and the relevant Bible passages ahead of
every Sunday School class.
Students should also be encouraged to do same.
Weekly physical or online pre-class lesson review will help the teachers to prepare
themselves very well for every Sunday ahead of them.
This practice, if regularly and consistently done, will save the teachers a lot of trouble
during their class teachings.
9.APPLICATION
The purpose of this exercise is to help the students know how what they have been
taught can affect their lives, faith, feelings or emotions, attitudes, decisions, actions,
relationships as well as those things that are expected of them after they have been
taught a particular lesson. This is more or else like the climax of the whole lesson. It is a
stage that calls for a decision making in the lives of the audience.
10. LESSON EVALUATION
In the past, we normally used "Personal or Self-Assessment Questions". But in the
present manuals, it is "Lesson Evaluation" that is used.
Evaluation is an exercise that requires teachers to use the already prepared questions
from the students to find out whether the objectives of the lessons have been achieved
or not.
Where the objectives appear not to have been achieved, efforts should be made to find
out where the problems are (diagnostics) so that they can be fixed.
11. CONCLUSION
8
Every lesson must be well concluded by the teachers. This will further help the
students to recollect what they had been taught and capture the main points in the
lesson.
ADDITIONAL TIPS
1 We should realize that our teaching is not for academic pursuits, but for evangelism
and discipleship making.
2. We should teach in the language (s) that we and our students can understand very
well
3. Involving the students in the lessons is a good way to stimulate their interest and
enhance the effectiveness of our lessons
4. Giving of home assignments to students is another way of making teaching and
learning easy and challenging.
5. Lastly, we should not forget the role of prayer and the Holy Spirit.
Thanks and God bless!
(Pastor V.O.A.Taylor)
