What is the Genuine Temporary Entrant Criterion?

To satisfy the Genuine Temporary Entrant criterion, Student’s individual circumstances must
demonstrate that he/she genuinely intend to stay in Australia temporarily.

The factors that are considered during assessment of the genuine temporary entrant requirement
include:
Student’s personal circumstances in your home country;
Student’s potential circumstances in Australia;
the value of the program to the student’s future;
Student’s immigration history, and;
any other matter that is relevant to his/her intention to remain in Australia temporarily.

If student is under 18 years of age, the intentions of student’s parent, legal guardian or spouse
will also be considered.

The information provided in the student’s visa application and supporting documentation will be used
by DIBP to assess the GTE requirement. Student may be requested to provide additional information in
relation to the factors set out above.

KEY POINTS TO BE INCLUDED IN INTERVIEW

1. Information about Student’s family Background


a. End of end details of family including personal & professional background. Need to cover
the details of each family member

2. Detailed information on academic background starting from Year 10/High school to the Highest
qualification undertaken by applicant mentioning Date, Month and Year of Commencement and
year of Completion. If you have withdrawn or failed in any of your studies this needs to be
addressed.
a. Education qualification according to ascending order including any withdrawn along
with date & time

3. Detailed information of work experience gained if any Date, Month and Year of commencement
4. Explain any gaps in your studies and / or in employment. Please attaché documentary evidence
where possible
a. Logical reason for a gap including any tie up with internship or any other organization
b. Health issues can be addressed also if it is sound reasonable
c. Documentary evidence is preferable

5. Reason for choosing your selected course of study . – Benefit of the program & how it is linked
with his profile?
a) How is this programmer related to your previous studies?
b) If this program is not related to your previous studies , why have you decided to change
Your career path?
c) applicant’s awareness about the programmer, course structure, teaching out come and
Internship element and campus information needs to be included.

d) Are you aware of the full cost of the programme?

8. Explain how will your proposed course assist you in achieving your future career goal/plan?
Student’s future plan linked with the course
a) What job do you expect to get once you complete this program?
b) Do you have an offer of a job when you return to your home country? If not, how do you
intend to look for a job once you return home?
c) How much do you expect your monthly salary to be after you complete your degree in
Australia? How does this compare to the salary you would receive if you did a degree in your
own country

9. What ties the applicant has with the home country ?


a) Are you married or single ?
b) What does your parents do ? if you have family assets describe
c) Do you have a job waiting for you when you return from Australia
10. Accommodation Details [whether it is provided by the provider or managed by student]

a) Do you have family living in Australia? If so, what do they do and what type of visa do they

Occupation? Will your spouse resign from their current employment to accompany you ?
c) Do you have any children? If so, will your children accompany you to Australia? Are you
Aware that school aged children must attend school in Australia ? are you aware of the
Associated cost in bringing in your spouse and child?

13. What is your Immigration and travel History


a) Have you ever had any visa application refused from Australia or any other diplomatic
mission? What were the reasons/circumstances for refusal?

conditions and left before the visa ceased?

14. Demonstrate knowledge on visa condition
