THE CHALLENGES SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FACE IN

PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1 (PR1)

INTRODUCTION

Senior high school students encounter various academic challenges,

particularly in Practical Research 1 (PR1), a subject that requires
critical thinking, data analysis, and structured writing. Many students
struggle with formulating research questions, understanding research
methodologies, and managing time effectively. These difficulties can
lead to stress, poor performance, and a lack of motivation.

Research is an essential skill for academic and professional success,

yet many students lack proper guidance and experience in conducting
it. Without a strong foundation, they find it difficult to meet academic
expectations and complete research projects efficiently. In addition,
limited access to resources, difficulties in analyzing data, and lack of
research skills make the learning process even more challenging.

This study aims to identify the common challenges senior high

school students face in PR1 and propose solutions to improve their
research experience. By understanding these difficulties, educators
and school administrators can develop better strategies to support
students, such as providing research workshops, improving access to
research materials, and offering mentorship programs.

To address these challenges, this study suggests implementing

structured research training sessions, providing online research tools,
and enhancing teacher support systems to help students navigate the
complexities of PR1 more effectively. Through these solutions,
students can develop confidence, improve their research skills, and
gain a better understanding of the research process.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

This study seeks to answer the following research questions:

1. What are the common challenges senior high school students face
in PR1?
2. How do these challenges affect students' academic performance
and motivation?
3. What factors contribute to the difficulties experienced by students
in PR1?
4. What strategies or support systems are currently in place to assist
students in PR1?
5. What recommendations can be made to help students overcome
these challenges?

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study focuses on senior high school students currently enrolled in

Practical Research 1. It examines the specific challenges they
encounter, including:

- Difficulties in formulating research topics

- Problems in research methodology selection
- Limited access to reliable sources and research materials
- Challenges in data collection and analysis
- Struggles with time management and organization
- Lack of confidence in writing research papers

This study is limited to senior high school students and does not
include students from other academic levels or those taking Practical
Research 2. Additionally, it relies primarily on qualitative data, such as
surveys and interviews, rather than experimental research methods.

By narrowing the scope of the study, the researchers aim to gain a

deeper understanding of the difficulties faced by PR1 students and
offer practical solutions to improve their research learning experience.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study holds significance for students, teachers, school

administrators, and future researchers:

For Students:
- Helps them understand and address their challenges in PR1.
- Improves their research skills, confidence, and motivation.
- Provides strategies to manage time effectively and conduct better
research.

For Teachers:
- Provides insights into the common struggles of PR1 students.
- Helps them adapt their teaching strategies to improve student
learning.
- Encourages the use of interactive and engaging research methods.

For School Administrators:

- Assists in developing better academic support programs.
- Promotes the organization of research training sessions and
mentorship programs.
- Helps in improving access to research materials and facilities.

For Future Researchers:

- Serves as a reference for studies on research education.
- Helps identify gaps in research skills development.
- Provides a foundation for improving research education in senior
high school.

By addressing the challenges students face in PR1, this study aims

to enhance research education and create a more supportive learning
environment for senior high school students.

CONCLUSION

Practical Research 1 (PR1) is a challenging yet essential subject that

helps senior high school students develop critical thinking, problem-
solving, and analytical skills. However, many students struggle with
formulating research questions, understanding methodologies, and
managing their time. These difficulties can lead to stress, poor
academic performance, and lack of motivation.

This study highlights the common challenges PR1 students face and
offers practical solutions to help them succeed. By introducing
research training sessions, improving access to research materials,
enhancing teacher support, and providing digital research tools,
students can develop better research skills and gain confidence in their
abilities.

Ultimately, a supportive learning environment is crucial for students

to excel in PR1. Teachers, school administrators, and students must
work together to create effective strategies that will help senior high
school students navigate research challenges and prepare for future
academic and professional success.
