Narrative Report on the Implementation of “Project Envision”

Before Implementation

Before the official launch of Project Envision, the team engaged in extensive research to ensure
the project was tailored to the needs of Barangay Lumbangan. Surveys, interviews, and
community observations were conducted to assess the local residents' awareness and practices
surrounding waste disposal. The results revealed widespread lack of knowledge about solid
waste segregation, a shortage of accessible waste disposal bins, and minimal community
participation in environmental initiatives. These findings were further validated during a meeting
with the Barangay Council, where the team presented the project objectives, proposed
solutions, and anticipated impact. Following this, a formal presentation to barangay officials
outlined the details of the project, securing their full support. With their approval, the team
finalized the event’s schedule and delegated tasks, ensuring a smooth and effective execution
of the project activities.

During Implementation

The implementation of Project Envision involved a series of structured activities aimed at both
educating the community and engaging them in hands-on environmental stewardship. The
event kicked off with a welcoming session that introduced the project’s purpose and vision. The
first major activity was a seminar focused on the concept of “Trash to Cash”, where
participants were educated on how recyclable waste could be transformed into a source of
income. Practical examples of recyclable materials were presented, along with local outlets
where residents could sell their recyclables, helping them see waste management not just as a
necessity but as an economic opportunity.

Following the seminar, the team conducted a comprehensive discussion on Solid Waste
Management (SWM). This session emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal and
the long-term benefits of a clean environment. It also highlighted the negative effects of
improper waste practices, underscoring how individual actions contribute to broader community
health and cleanliness.

At the same time, children were invited to participate in a Kids’ Fun Day, where they took part
in painting the newly installed SWM bins. This hands-on activity helped to instill environmental
awareness in a fun and creative manner, allowing the younger residents to take ownership of
the project and become future environmental advocates.

The next key activity was the official turnover of the SWM bins to the community, which was
accompanied by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The team explained the strategic placements of
the bins, ensuring they were conveniently located to facilitate proper waste segregation. The
ceremony symbolized the official handover of responsibility for the bins to the community,
encouraging residents to actively use them. The event concluded with an awarding ceremony
for volunteers and a closing session, where the contributions of the community members were
acknowledged, and the spirit of shared responsibility was reinforced.

After Implementation

The impact of Project Envision on Barangay Lumbangan was significant and immediately
visible. The project succeeded in raising awareness about the importance of waste segregation,
with many residents adopting proper disposal practices at home. The SWM bins with basketball
hoops became a fun and engaging tool, especially for children, who eagerly participated in
waste disposal. This interactive approach not only improved waste management practices but
also fostered a sense of responsibility among the younger generation.

The “Trash to Cash” seminar empowered several households to start collecting recyclables
and selling them, creating a new source of income for families while promoting environmental
sustainability. The Kids’ Fun Day helped solidify the involvement of youth in environmental
initiatives, creating an early culture of care for the community’s cleanliness.

In addition to the practical benefits, the event helped bring the community closer together. The
collaborative efforts of local residents, officials, and volunteers instilled a stronger sense of pride
and ownership in their environment. The installation of SWM bins, paired with the educational
seminars and community engagement activities, marked the beginning of long-term, sustainable
change. Barangay Lumbangan now has the infrastructure, knowledge, and motivation to
continue improving its waste management practices, fostering a cleaner, healthier, and more
resilient community for years to come.
