Notes
1. The eyes used in this pattern were purchased from [Link]. You can also find similar
ones on Etsy.
2. This pattern is crocheted in continuous rounds (you will not join each round).
3. In my patterns, I begin each circle with “ch 2, 8 sc in first ch.” Another way of beginning is to start
with a magic circle. If you are more familiar with this method, just do 8 sc into your magic circle.
4. Single crochet decrease stitch explanation:
Insert the hook into the next stitch and yarn over. Pull a loop through so that there are now 2
loops on the hook. Insert the hook into the next stitch and yarn over. Pull a loop through so that
there are now 3 loops on the hook. Yarn over again and pull the loop of yarn through all 3 loops
on the hook.

Instructions
Head
With blue yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 8 sc in first st (8 sts)
R2: 2 sc in each st around (16 sts)
R3: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next st) 8 times (24 sts)
R4: (Sc 3, 2 sc in next st) 6 times (30 sts)
R5: (Sc 4, 2 sc in next st) 6 times (36 sts)
R6-11: Sc 36 (36 sts x 6 rounds)
R12: (Sc 4, dec 1) 6 times (30 sts)
R13: (Sc 3, dec 1) 6 times (24 sts)
R14: (Sc 2, dec 1) 6 times (18 sts)
R15: (Sc 1, dec 1) 6 times (12 sts)
Fasten off, and begin stuffing the head. Then, insert the
safety eyes between R10-R11, with 5 visible sts in between
(Figure 1-A). Now, if you’re using 3D 20 mm eyes, use a jig to
firmly press on the backs of the eyes. If you do not have a jig,
place the backs in boiling-hot water for 2 minutes (to soften A C
the plastic) and then press them onto the eyes. Finish stuffing
the head.
Mouth & Cheeks
For the mouth, thread a long strand of black embroidery onto B
your yarn needle, and insert it through the opening at the
bottom of the head and out between the eyes. The mouth will
look like a “V.” See Vid #2 on the Materials page for a video
explanation of sewing on the smile. First, sew 1 slanted stitch Figure 1: Eyes and Smile
to make the one side of the V; then sew the other side of the
V. Now weave the floss back to the inside of the head and
secure with a knot to the beginning tail (Figure 1-B). Your
finished smile will look as shown in Figure 1-C.
For the cheeks, thread a long strand of light pink yarn onto
your yarn needle, insert it through the opening at the bottom
of the head and out right beside the bottom corner of the
eyes. Sew 2-3 stitches on top of each other that are 2 stitches
wide to create the cheeks (Figure 2). Secure this strand as you
did with the black embroidery floss. Figure 2: Pink Cheeks

Antennae (x2)
With blue yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in first ch (6 sts)
R2: 2 sc in first st, sc 5 (7 sts)
R3: Sc 7 (7 sts)
R4: Dec 1, sc 3, dec 1 (5 sts)
Switch to white,
R5-7: Sc 5 (5 sts x 3 rounds)
Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Push the yarn ends
into the balls of the antennae to stuff them. Then position the
antennae on either side of the beginning circle on the top of
the head (Figure 3). Sew to the head. Note: if one of your Figure 3: Antennae Placement
white stitches from sewing on the antennae stands out on
the blue head, use the method shown in Vid #3 on the
Materials page to hide it.
Body
With blue yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 8 sc in first ch (8 sts)
R2: 2 sc in first st, sc 7 (9 sts)
Note: For the next 15 rounds, stuff as you go!

R22: (Sc 4, dec 1) 3 times (15 sts)
R23: (Sc 3, dec 1) 3 times (12)
Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Finish stuffing as
needed. Sew the body to the head. Your dragonfly will now
look as shown in Figure 4. Figure 4: Finished Head and Body

R2: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next st) 4 times (12 sts)
R3: 2 sc in first st, then sc 11 (13 sts)
R4-6: Sc 13 (13 sts x 3 rounds)
R7: Dec 1, sc 11 (12 sts)
R8: Sc 12 (12 sts)

R9: Dec 1, sc 10 (11 sts)
R10: Sc 11 (11 sts)
R11: Dec 1, sc 9 (10 sts)
R12: Sc 10 (10 sts)
R13: Dec 1, sc 8 (9 sts)
R14: Sc 9 (9 sts)
R15: Dec 1, sc 7 (8 sts)
R16-17: Sc 8 (8 sts x 2 rounds)
Wait to fasten off. Do not stuff the wings. Single crochet
through both layers across the opening at the top of the wing
to close it (Figure 5) – 4 sc sts across. Fasten off, leaving a yarn
tail for sewing. Make the 2nd longer wing and the set of Figure 5: Closing the Wings
shorter wings, as instructed below.
Shorter Wings (x2)
With white yarn,
R1: Ch 2, 8 sc in first ch (8 sts)
R2: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next st) 4 times (12 sts)
R3: 2 sc in first st, then sc 11 (13 sts)

R8: Sc 12 (12 sts)
R9: Dec 1, sc 10 (11 sts)
R10: Sc 11 (11 sts)
R11: Dec 1, sc 9 (10 sts)
R12: Sc 10 (10 sts)
R13: Dec 1, sc 8 (9 sts)
R14: Sc 9 (9 sts)
R15: Dec 1, sc 7 (8 sts)
Wait to fasten off. Do not stuff the wings. As you did with the
longer wings, single crochet through both layers across the
opening at the top of the wing to close it – 4 sc sts across.
Figure 6: Finished Wings
Your 4 finished wings will now look as shown in Figure 6.
Position the 2 longer wings right at the top of the body and
sew in place. First sew along the back of the wings and then
bring your needle to the front and sew the front edge of the
wings to the body also. See Vid #1 on the Materials page to

see how I sewed on the wings. After sewing on the 2 nd longer
wing, sew the 2 edges to each other to hide any blue that
might be peeking through (this is also shown in Vid #1).
Now sew the 2 shorter wings onto the body right below the
longer wings. Again, after sewing on both wings, sew the 2
edges together to make a perfectly-white seam (Figure 7).
Arms (x2)
With blue yarn, Figure 7: Attached Wings
R1: Ch 5, then sc 4 (4 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Sew to the sides of
the body, just below the head (Figure 8).
And there you go, your plush dragonfly is finished! Thank you
so much for joining me in making this dragonfly. Enjoy!

Eye Detail & Smile
Thread a long strand of black yarn onto your yarn needle,

Weave the black yarn inside the head and secure with a knot Figure 1: Eyes
to the beginning end of the black yarn. Tuck the ends inside
the head.
For the smile, thread a long strand of black embroidery floss
onto your yarn needle. Insert it through the opening at the
bottom of the head and out between the eyes. Sew 1 st right

grab the original stitch (Figure 2), and insert the needle right
back into the same spot.
As you did with the black yarn, secure the floss to the Figure 2: Mouth
beginning end with a knot and tuck inside the head.
