1. Remove four bolts (2). Remove cap assembly (1) and the tube assembly as a unit.

2. Remove spiral retaining ring (3). Remove tube assembly (4) from cap assembly (1).

3. Remove spiral retaining ring (6) and bearing (5) from tube assembly (4).

4. Remove lip-type seal (7) from cap assembly (1).

5. Remove setscrew (10), the spring and the ball from the cap assembly.

6. Remove pin (9) from the cap assembly. Remove knob (8), the nut and the pin as a unit from the cap.

7. Remove five screws (12) and shroud (11).

8. Disconnect balljoint (16) from rack (15).

9. Disconnect balljoint (14) from bellcrank (13).

10. Remove lever assembly (17) from the housing assembly.

11. Twist handle (18), and remove rack (15) from the lever assembly.

12. Remove screw (19), and remove handle (18) from the shaft.

13. Loosen the setscrew, and remove collar (20).

14. Remove retaining ring (22). Remove retainer (23), the spacer and shaft (21) from the lever.

15. Remove seal (24) and two bushings from the lever assembly.

16. Remove four setscrews (two in each hole) (26), and remove bellcrank (25) and the pin assembly.

17. Remove two setscrews (both in the same hole) (29). Remove pin (27), gear assembly (28) and the three
washers.

18. Remove bearing (30) from gear (31).

19. Remove the four screws [two under rubber boot (34)], and remove shroud (32) and (33).

20. Remove four bolts (36) and two plates (35).

21. Remove bulkhead nuts (39), and pull directional control cable (37) and speed control cable (38) clear of the
steering column.

22. Remove pin (41) and nut (42). Remove parking and secondary brake knob assembly (40).

23. Slide rubber boot (34) up the steering column.

24. Remove pin (44) and tube (43).

25. Disconnect air hose assemblies (48) and (49) from the parking brake valve.

NOTE: Put identification marks on the steering column to locate clamp assembly (46) for correct assembly.

26. Remove the two bolts and clamp (47). Remove parking brake valve assembly (45) and clamp assembly (46) as
a unit.

27. Remove four bolts (50), and disconnect hand metering pump (51) from the steering column.

28. Remove four nuts (52) that hold the steering column assembly to the cab floor.

29. Remove two bolts (54). Remove bracket (53), the roller, the spacer and the nut as a unit so that the steering
column can be lowered through the cab floor.

30. Lower the steering column assembly through the cab floor, and remove brackets (55) and (56).

31. Remove bearing (57) from brackets (55) and (56).

32. Remove steering column assembly (58) from the machine.

33. Remove rubber boot (34) from the steering column.

34. Remove the two bolts and bracket assembly (61) from the steering column.

35. Remove two bolts (59) and two bolts (62). Remove plate (63) and housing (60) from the steering column.

Assemble And Install Adjustable Steering Column

1. Put housing (5) and plate (2) in position on the steering column, and install four bolts (4) that hold them in place.

2. Put bracket assembly (3) in position on the steering column, and install the two bolts that hold it in place.

3. Put rubber boot (1) in position on the steering column as shown.

4. Put steering column assembly (6) in position through the hole in the cab floor as shown.

5. Use tooling (A), and install bearing (8) in both brackets (7).

6. Put 5P960 Multipurpose Type Grease on the bearings in brackets (7).

7. Put brackets (7) in position on the steering column assembly.

8. Raise the steering column assembly into position, and install the washers and nuts (9) that hold it in place.
Tighten the nuts to a torque of 45 ± 5 N·m (33 ± 4 lb.ft.).

9. Move the steering column toward the instrument panel until the lever engages with bracket assembly (3).

10. Put bracket (10), the spacer, the roller and the nut in position as a unit, and install two bolts (11) that hold them
in place.

11. Put hand metering pump (13) in position on the steering column, and install four bolts (12) that connect it to the
steering column.

12. Put parking brake valve (14) and clamp assembly (16) in position on the steering column as a unit. Align clamp
assembly (16) with the identification marks put on the steering column in Step 26 of the disassembly. Hole (V) in
clamp assembly (16) must be 138 mm (5.43 in.) from the center of the steering column bearing journal (Z). See
photo number B98403X1 on page 29. Put clamp (19) in position, and install the two bolts that hold it in place.

13. Connect air hose assemblies (18) and (20) to the parking brake valve.

14. Put tube (15) in position on the parking brake valve, and install pin (17) that holds it in place.

15. Put nut (23) in position, and install knob assembly (22) in tube (15). Install pin (24), and tighten nut (23) while
holding nut (21).

16. Slide rubber boot (1) down and into position on the steering column.

17. Put directional control cable (25) and speed control cable (26) in position through the holes in the steering
column support as shown, and install the washers and bulkhead nuts (27) that hold them in place. Tighten the nuts
to a torque of 100 ± 15 N·m (75 ± 11 lb.ft.).

18. Put shroud (28) and shroud (29) in position on the steering column, and install the four screws [two under
rubber boot (1)] that hold them in place.

19. Put plates (30) and (31) in position over the boot. Install the four bolts that hold the plates and boot in place.

20. Use tooling (A) to install the bearing in gear (32) even with the surface of the gear.

21. Put gear (33) and washers (34) in position in the housing, and install pin (32) that holds them in place. Hole (W)
in the pin must be aligned with hole (X) in the housing.

22. Check the measurement between the upper washer and housing (5). Add or remove washers (34) to obtain a
maximum measurement of 1.3 mm (.05 in.).

23. Install the two setscrews in hole (X) that hold pin (32) in place.

24. Install bellcrank (35) and pin (36) as a unit in the housing. The flats on pin (36) must be toward the setscrews
when they are installed.

25. Install four setscrews (37) (two in each hole) that hold the pin and bellcrank in place.

26. Use tooling (A), and install two bearings (38) in lever (39). Install bearings so their outside edge is even with the
counterbores in the lever. The inside diameter of the bearings after assembly must be 12.667 + 0.051 or - 0.013
mm (.4987 + .0020 or - .0005 in.) (dimension Y).

27. Use tooling (A) to install the lip-type seal in the lever with the lip of the seal toward the outside as shown.

28. Install spacer (45) on the shaft.

29. Put 5P960 Multipurpose Type Grease on the shaft. Install shaft (43) in the lever.

30. Install retainer (46) and spiral lockring (44).

31. Install collar (42) on the shaft.

32. Put handle (41) in position on the shaft. Put 9S3263 Thread Lock on the screw threads, and install screw (40) in
the shaft.

33. Make sure ball (47) on bellcrank (35) is engaged in the groove of gear (33) and facing up as the lever assembly
is installed.

34. Put lever assembly (48) in position on rack (50), and make sure the splines on the lever assembly are engaged
with the teeth on gear (49).

35. Connect balljoint (52) to rack (50).

36. Connect balljoint (51) to bellcrank (35).

37. Put shroud (53) in position on the steering column assembly, and install five screws (54) that hold it in place.

38. Put knob (59), the nut and the pin in position in cap (55) as a unit. The pin must be positioned in the cap with
the flat facing up.

39. Install pin (60) that holds the pin, the nut and knob (59) in place.

40. Install ball (56), spring (57) and setscrew (58) in the cap. Install the setscrew until it is flush with the outside
surface of cap (55).

41. Install lip-type seal (61) in the cap even with the bottom of the chamfer in the bore. The lip of the seal must face
out as shown.

42. Use a press to install bearing (63) on tube assembly (64). Install the bearing with the seal opposite the threaded
end of the tube assembly.

43. Install spiral retaining ring (62) on the tube assembly.

44. Put 5P960 Multipurpose Type Grease on the bearing and in the cap.

45. Install tube assembly (64) and bearing (63) in cap (55). Install retaining ring (65) that holds the bearing and tube
assembly in the cap.

46. Put 5P960 Multipurpose Type Grease on bearing surface (T) of the lever assembly.

47. Put cap (55) and tube assembly (64) as a unit in position on the lever assembly and the housing. Install the four
bolts that hold them in place.

END BY:

a. install steering wheel.
