Chapter 1: The Se Sentence
Explanation:
A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense. It begins with a
capital letter and ends with a full stop (.), question mark (?), or exclamation
mark (!).
ENGLISH Types of Sentences:
1. Declarative Sentence (Statement): Tells something.
○ Formula: Subject + Verb + Object
○ Example: She plays the piano.
2. Interrogative Sentence (Question): Asks something.
○ Formula: Helping Verb + Subject + Main Verb + ?
○ Example: Do you like apples?
3. Imperative Sentence (Command/Request): Gives command or makes a
request.
○ Formula: (You) + Base Verb + Object
○ Example: Please close the door.
4. Exclamatory Sentence (Strong Feeling): Shows strong emotion.
○ Formula: What/How + Subject + Verb + !
○ Example: What a beautiful day!
5. Optative Sentence (Wish/Prayer): Expresses a wishh or prayer.
○ Formula: May + Subject + Verb + Object
Simple, Compound, and Complex Sentences:
Simple Sentence: Contains one independent clause.
○ Example: He reads books.
● Compound Sentence: Contains two or more independent clauses
joined by coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or).
○ Example: He reads books and she writes poems.
● Complex Sentence: Contains one independent clause and one or more
dependent (subordinate) clauses.
○ Example: He reads books because he loves stories.
Chapter 2: Phrases
Explanation:
A phrase is a group of words that forms a part of a sentence but does not have
a subject-verb combination.
Types of Phrases:
1. Noun Phrase – Acts as a noun.
○ Example: The tall boy in red
2. Verb Phrase – Includes the main verb and auxiliary verbs.
○ Example: is playing
3. Adjective Phrase – Acts like an adjective.
○ Example: full of energy
4. Adverb Phrase – Acts like an adverb.
○ Example: with great speed
5. Prepositional Phrase – Starts with a preposition.

Chapter 3: Clauses
Explanation:
A clause is a group of words with a subject and a verb.
Types of Clauses:
1. Main Clause – Can stand alone.

Kinds of Subordinate Clauses:
