CHAPTER I

Introduction

Background of the Study

Work immersion is one of the requirements in Senior High School, which

is aimed at exposing learners to actual work experience in actual work settings.

It enables learners to put into practice the concepts and theories they have

acquired in school, enabling them to acquire practical skills that they require in

their working life. Through immersion, learners are exposed to first-hand

experience of industry practices, work place culture, and professional

responsibilities, enabling them to prepare for work or further studies.

The Accountancy, Business, and Management strand is purposed to

develop the entrepreneurial, business, and financial management abilities of the

students. ABM students are also exposed to work immersion as part of school life

to further enhance their knowledge of business processes and work place

dynamics. However, while immersion allows exposure that is solely needed, it

also presents challenges of adjusting to work requirements, completing assigned

task, and balancing academic requirements and professional obligations. Many

students struggle with workplace rules, low confidence, time management, and

adjusting to real business work. Communication problem, unclear roles, financial

problem, and trouble using what student learned in school can make tings

harder. Lack of guidance, work stress, high expectations, limited resources,

knowledge, and experience are also affect the student learnings and

performance.

It is important to gain insights into ABM students experience during work

immersion in an attempt to refine the program and correct any issues that they

face. This study is designed to determine the opportunities and challenges

experienced by students under immersion. The results will provide guidebook for

teachers, school administrators, and business partners to enhance work

immersion programs in a way that future ABM students will learn more

effectively and meaningfully.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to explore the multifaceted experiences of Accountancy,

Business, and Management (ABM) students during their Immersion program

among Grade 12 ABM learners of Tigbauan National High School. The results will

be valuable to future researchers exploring work immersion programs and

business education, providing insights into student experiences and contributing

to a deeper understanding of effecting immersion practices.

Specifically, this study seeks to understand the diverse range of experiences by

focusing on the following questions:

1. What are the key skills and knowledge that Grade 12 ABM students at

Tigbauan National High School develop during their immersion program?

2. What are the most significant challenges and difficulties faced by the

students during their immersion program?

3. How do students navigate and cope with the challenges they encounter

during their immersion, including the support systems they utilize?

4. Do you find the immersion program as enriching and empowering?

5. Are you satisfied to the aspects that contribute to the experiences during

immersion?

6. What is the overall impact of the immersion program to your experience

on your academic, personal growth and its influence on your future career

aspirations?

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The purpose of this qualitative study is to learn more about the

experiences of Tigbauan NHS grade 12 ABM students throughout their

immersion. This study will be using phenomenology and qualitative method to

get the most effective results. This will focus specifically on understanding the

experiences of students both positive and negative challenging, encountered by

this students, including the knowledge and skills they acquired, difficulties they

encountered, the support system that they utilize and the overall impact of the

immersion program in the lives of these students both academically and

personally.

The research will be conducted at Tigbauan National High School

considering the Grade 12 ABM learners who completed their immersion during

the academic year 2024-2025.

Purposive sampling will be use to select participants who can provide

reach and diverse insights on to their experiences. While the study aims to

capture a broad spectrum of experiences, the findings may not be generalizable

to all academic ABM students or other schools due to specific context of

Tigbauan National High School.

The researchers will utilize unstructured interview guides for the data

collection. It consist of five (5) questions with an open ended approach that will

elicit detailed narratives about the student immersion experiences. The

interviews will be audio recorded and transcribe by the researchers to ensure

accuracy and facilitate thorough analysis. Photographs maybe taken during

interviews for documentation purposes. Researchers will adhere to strict ethical

guidelines, insuring that all data collected, including photographs and interview

transcripts, are obtained with the informed consent of the participants.

Significance of the Study

This study will further enhance knowledge on the ABM strand in terms of

benefits, challenges, and realities of application. The findings will be utilize to

enhance the curriculum, support teachers in the enhancement of teaching

strategies, and benefit administrators in making effective decisions. Overall, this

research is expected to produce more enlightened students and an improved

education system.

Learners. This research will help learners to know more about ABM

strand which helps them in decision-making regarding educational matters. This

will help them to develop their understanding of the relevance of the strand to

their future studies and career ambitions.

Teachers. Teachers are at the core of the learning process of their

students; therefore, the aims of this study is to assist them in enhancing their

teaching methods. The study will give important information on the needs of

students that will allow teachers to design an improved and more interactive

curriculum to promote better education results.

School Administrators. This study will help based on the results to

facilitate school administrators in evaluating the ABM strand and making sure

that students must be highly educated to meet academic and careers

successfully. Analyzing the outcomes allows administrators to make

enhancements that lead to a more effective learning platform and, overall, a

more successful program.

Parents. This research should serve as a useful reference for parents of

students in the ABM immersion program. It will offer insight into expected

experiences, areas of skill development, and ways of translating theoretical

concepts into practical application, thus preparing their children for their future

professional life.

Future Researchers. Future researcher will be assisted by the study, as

it provides a foundation for future studies on business and management

education. The information gathered in this research can serve as guide, and it

will be easier to develop new ideas and deeper analysis of the ABM strand.

Definition of Terms

The definition of terms in this study will help you to fully understand the

main variables that are stated in this research work.

Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM). Is a Senior High

School (SHS) strand that prepare learners for a business course in college by

introducing the basic concepts of Accountancy, Business, Management,

Economic, Finance, and Marketing. (King’s College of the Philippines)

In this study, it refers to the strand in Tigbauan National High School

under the Senior High School Department that students will be taking.

Experiences. Is direct observation of or participation in event as a basis

of knowledge (Merriam Webster).

In this study, it refers to the experiences of ABM students encountered

during their immersion.

Immersion. A teaching method that involves immersing students in an

environment where they learn through a target knowledge (Catalina Foothills

School District).

In this study, it refers to one of the requirements of ABM students in

Senior High School where students experienced, participate, and learn.

Students. Is a person formally engaged in learning, especially one

enrolled in a school or college (Dictionary).

In this study, it refers to the ABM student who participates and

experience work immersion.
