Mesoamerica Games
Scoles, Sam
Ms. Gail Hook
World History
18 November 2014
Mesoamerica: The Ballgame
What if there was a game that controlled entire civilizations and killed thousands every year when it
was played? In Mesoamerica, there was a game that fit that description perfectly. This game was
simply called the Ball Game. It is a very simple, yet powerful sport. The game served as a way to not
only give the people of Mesoamerican civilizations a hobby, but it was also used to settle conflicts
of any size. The ball game was more than a game, it was life or death. Each game had a huge
significance whether it be for personal, emotional, or spiritual reasons (Andrea). People were often
killed as a result of this sport. Decapitation became part of the game as ... Show more content on

The first and often most important rule was that the game could only be played by men of the
upper classes. As Nigel B. Crowther said in one of his books, Sport in Ancient Times, sport did
not permeate all levels of society on an equal basis. This comes from the same premise that was
utilized across Mesopotamia which was that the lesser of the people do not deserve to play as it
is only a privilege. They do not want the lesser people of the civilizations to play unless they are
called upon for a game of great importance (Crowther). The people who played the ball game were
males who were either professionals or amateurs. Also, during certain events, the ball games would
see competitors that were warriors or war captives (Reichard). Every competitor, no matter who it
was, worse some kind of safety gear. As seen in many forms of art from the time, the players wore
gear such as belts, padding (for hips, knees, legs, elbows, etc.) and helmets that were used for both
safety reasons and to display power (Lecvinson). The ball game was not a game for the soft hearted
man. It was an extremely rough and violent game. The reason for all these players to play was for
something much bigger than themselves.
Now, for the standard rules, the exact specifications are not perfectly clear. What experts do agree
on, however, is the simple parts of the game (Andrea). The game was played with rubber balls
which weighed roughly 3.5 kilograms, or 7.72 pounds, and measured around 20 centimeters in
diameter (Crain). Each team, made up of two or three players, would try to throw the ball through
the stone rings at the end of the court on either side. This sounds an awful like the modern sport
called basketball, but it is much harder. The problem is that the teams could only score with anything
but their hands
Reflection On Iep Meeting
IEP Meeting
The event that I attended was an IEP meeting for one of the students that I work with. However, the
parent of the student requested that the person that assist her son in the classroom to be included in
the meeting. Day s previews to the meeting, the staff that were involved in the meeting gather
together and created an agenda, they listed the main points that they want to discuss with the mother
of the student. However, I was included in the group too, since I work with the student they asked
me how was the progress of the student? After that meeting the Special Ed teacher schedule the
appointment for the IEP.
The day of the IEP arrives, and I was told to be in the meeting room 15 minutes before. As soonest

Turbulent Mexican Economy
The Turbulent Mexican Economy

Today, Mexico is the twelfth largest economy in the world. Mexico s economy has expanded and
Mexico is a signatory to major deals, such as North American Free Trade Agreement and Trans
Pacific Partnership. Additionally, Mexico is a member of the Organisation for Economic Cooper
and Development (OECD). Mexico is an active o member of the world s economy. It is important
to realize that the country has made significant economic progress. However, Mexico faces trouble
as it attempts to become a developed economy. In this paper, I will outline the economic history of
Mexico and its transition towards neoliberalism from import substitution and how the government
plays a smaller role in the economy. I will look ... Show more content on [Link] ...
In 1982, Mexico stopped making its payments, Their debt increased from 16 billion to 86 billion
in the years between 1975 and 1982 (Claessens and Wijinbergen 967) First, Mexico s economy
showed signs of collapsing after the price of oil dropped due to Iran, an OPEC country, beginning
to produce oil again (Watkin paragraph 8). Additionally, interest rates increased due to the fact
anti inflationary policies did not work; as a result, interest rates had doubled from twelve percent
to twenty four percent (Walkin 7). Suddenly, the country found itself in economic turmoil,
because their income from oil had run dry, yet the interest rates from loans skyrocketed. Brady
Bonds allowed Mexico to repay their debt. Mexican became weary of the government s economic
model because it showed signs of weakness (Camp 120). Additionally, Mexican feared the bleak
economic conditions in Mexico could led to violence as a result of greater poverty ( Camp
Phaeochromocytoma Case Study
Pheochromocytoma is a catecholamine producing tumor that originates from cromaffin cells of the
adrenergic system, most commonly in the adrenal medulla. There are two main steps in the
diagnosis of pheochromocytoma: biochemical demostration of excessive catecholamine secretion
and radiological localization of the causative tumor.

Patient with phaeochromocytoma may come to medical attention due to their hypertension (which is
paroxysmal in aproximately one thirdof patients, but can also be sustained) or because of the clinical
features that stem from the increased secretion of catecholamines (i.e. epinephrine and
norepinehprine).

In any case, the diagnosis should be suspected in patients with one or more of the following: onset of
hypertension ... Show more content on [Link] ...
False positive results can arise due to the presence of other medical conditions (most notably
obstructive sleep apnea) and medications (such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs)
that can cause the elevation of metanephrines, hence patients should stod taking all medications that
can possibly interfere with the results prior to testing.

Chromogranin A is a major secretory protien present in the cormaffin granules and a very effective
tumor marker that can improve the sensitivity of diagnostic testing and long term follow up for
pheochromocytoma. Clonodine suppression and glucagon stimulation tests have been studied, but
are seldom required and have not been validated in the diagnosis of childhood pheochromocytoma.

Iago’s Manipulation of Othello in Shakespeare’s Othello...
Iago s Manipulation of Othello in Shakespeare s Othello Once a seed of suspicion or doubt is
planted in a person s mind, the noxious effect of jealousy is soon to ensue. Jealousy and suspicion
are Othello s flaws hubris throughout the play and foreshadow to the audience his imminent
downfall. He believes what Iago tells him so strongly that he compromises his close relationship
with his best friend and his love for his wife. Iago manipulates Othello through the use of extortion,
literary techniques, and his keen judge of character. His syntax and diction are so simple yet so
powerful because he uses the correct rhetorical questions and addresses Othello with respectful
terms such as my lord. He allows Othello do most of the talking... Show more content on

By using short, choppy sentence structure and weak diction, he seems less of a threat to Othello
and his innocence is enhanced through it. Also, by always using rhetorical questions, he never
does address what it is Othello is talking about. Iago distorts Othello s thoughts and gets him to
think he knows much more than he is telling him about the entire affair. This becomes especially
clear when Othello asks for ocular proof and Iago confirms he has it using statements like I
should be wise; for honesty s a fool and looses that it works for, Act III Scene iii line 378 379,
meaning he should not tell Othello what he knows or it would ruin Iago s reputation. This sets
Othello s suspicions aflame and soon Iago is relaying to him the story about Cassio s dream about
he and Desdemona, and finally, he closes with the handkerchief, the most powerful thing which
Othello held as a sacred gift of love to his wife. He is then completely overcome with jealousy and
scorn for his former lover and friend, wanting death for the both of them. Throughout this passage,
Iago s main techniques of deception include lies, syntax and diction, and hoodwinking Othello into
thinking his way. By quickly averting his conflict with Othello at the start of the scene, he easily
avoids confrontation
Stand By Me, By Gordie Lachance
A movie whose plots consisted of four young boys who go on an adventure together to achieve
frame and fortune, but in the end achieved something much greater. This movie was known as
Stand By Me, based on the novella The Body written by Gordie Lachance, whose main purpose
was to reveal the one journey in his childhood as a rite of passage. The movie follows the main
concept of the story where all the boys face obstacles and become more open towards one another. It
even portrays the main cast with the narrator expressing the events just like the novella when the
author expresses his feelings to the readers. The movie is different from the novella because the plot,
atmosphere, and title each act as a medium that produce the... Show more content on [Link]

In the novella the author shows many scenes or memories of when he was a child, one particular
scene where he sees his brother, Dennis, in the closet bleeding out saying, It should have been
you. On the other hand, the movie shows one scene where Gordie see his father say It should
have been you at the funeral of Dennis. Since the movie shows one of the two scene that greatly
influenced Gordie and his choices he made as a kid, it does not reveal how much Dennis s death
had impacted his life. Another scene that was changed was the scene of the night before they found
Ray Brower s body. In the novella the scene has the aura of horror with screaming woman from the
distance and everyone on edge. In the movie, they got the boys on edge, but there was no woman
screaming, only wolves howling to the moon. The movie created an entirely new atmosphere with it
shortening on scene and audio manipulation compared to the novella which showed how much the
author was affected and
