Why Magic Should Not Be Confused With Witchcraft
In the 21st century what do people think of when they hear the word magic? Is it Harry Potter
and his friends fighting off Lord Voldemort or perhaps as Black Sabbath sings witches at Black
Masses? It is probably a bit of both depending on your age and religious beliefs. This was not the
case during the time period extending from antiquity to the early modern period. People in this time
believed that magiccould explain things they did not understand or could not explain. It was not for
entertainment. Magic probably claimed to provide all the answers which were later provided by
science, technology, and philosophy: it was everything. This statement stands true for all three
periods this paper focuses on even the early modern period when religion was supposed to have
taken place of magical beliefs. Magic should not be confused with witchcraft. People believed that
you could perform magic without being or needing a witch. In antiquity, people believed that
magic was between religion and superstition. In a sense, magic, understood as a kind of science,
has always tried to locate the secret forces in nature, especially their sympathies and antipathies
and use them for specific purposes. Ancient Greeks and Romans practiced or believed in many
forms of magic but the magical ideal that lasted the longest and is seen throughout all three time
periods is the ideal of malefic, the use of magic to do evil or harm. Medea is a prime example of this
type of magic. She uses her
Operant Conditioning In Jurassic Park
Zach and Gray were sent to Jurassic World to visit their Aunt Claire, who is the park s manager.
Jurassic World, a dinosaur amusement park built on the island that was once home to the original
Jurassic Park, sought to increase park attendance by genetically creating a new dinosaur. Masroni, the
owner of the amusement park, asks Claire to consult with American Navy veteran and Velociraptors
trainer Owen Grady on the new dinosaurs containment. This new attraction, the Indominus Rex,
proves to be extremely dangerous, uncontrollable, and uncontainable. The Indominus Rex ends up
escaping and goes around the island killing both people and dinosaurs. Claire decides to have the
park evacuated, but Zach and Gray ignore the evacuation order, opting... Show more content on

The general response syndrome is known as Selye s concept of the body s adaptive response to
stress in three phases alarm, resistance, exhaustion (Myers, 2014, p.393). The constant stressor in
the movie would be the Indominus rex who poses as a threat to their safety and confronts them
with the need to stay alive, to survive. Phase one of the GAS, alarm, can be seen when Owen and
the guard realize Indominus is with them inside the paddock. We see them become more alert and
we can guess that their hearts have begun to race. During Phase 2, resistance, your temperature,
blood pressure, and respiration remain high. Your adrenal glands pump hormones into your
bloodstream. You are fully engaged, summoning all your resources to meet the challenge (Myers,
2014, p.393). Owen experiences phase two as he runs as fast as he can towards the slight opening
as Indominus follows close behind. Adrenaline has kicked in and he s using everything in him to
run faster. We can only guess that Owen experiences Phase three, exhaustion, as he lies under a
truck covered in oil or gasoline, when we see him breath with relief after Indominus failed to
distinguish his
New Method Of Ultrahard Material Synthesis
New Method in Ultrahard Material Synthesis: CS2 Catalyzed Ultrahard Fullerite
Ultrahard materials is a broad category define by materials that are harder than diamond. Diamond,
thought to be the hardest material for centuries hasn t been the hardest material seen by scientists in
a long time. Many materials have been developed or discovered recently that surpass the 150 GPa
hardness of diamond by as much as 100%. There are many ways to measure the hardness of a
material, from the classic scratch test to more complicated bulk modulus calculations. Other tests of
hardness include indentation and rebound tests, or measurements of the elastic and shear modulus.
Ultrahard fullerite is one such material that has surpassed diamond with values ... Show more content

Structural studies of fullerite are hampered by its lack of a 4 or 6 fold axis, so long term periodicity
in fullerite s crystal lattice isn t possible for covalently bonded fullerene molecules in three
dimensions. TEM studies have shown a sequence of FCC phases that have been explained by
bonded fullerene chains formation. Because of this difficulty, researchers have turned to Raman
spectroscopy to study the polymerization, which has features explained by the C60 phonon spectra
perturbations by intermolecular covalent bonding. The 3D polymerized phases produced in
ultrahard fullerite synthesis are phase IV and V, where phase V is the desired ultrahard fullerite.
Phase V is translucent in the near IR or visible range having a Raman spectrum containing two
broad peaks around 1550 cm 1 and around 500 cm 1.
Prior to research by Popov et al., the synthesis conditions of ultrahard fullerite depended on a degree
of plastic deformation and stress tensor variation of a sample under compression. The minimum
required pressure for synthesis was 13 GPa at 1100 K, or 18 GPa at room temperature, both of which
aren t suitable for industrial production without a catalyst. The polymerization of fullerene molecules
starts under sunlight irradiation at ambient temperatures to create dimers. These simple conditions
for these intermolecular bonds to form led researchers to hypothesize
Policy Introduction And Identification Of The Military...
Policy Introduction and Identification
In January of 2013, the Department of Defense set aside the 1994 Direct Ground Combat Definition
and Assignment Rule (Carter, 2015). This takes all restrictions off women allowing all who meet the
qualifications to hold a combat role in the military. The Armed Forces have opened over 110,000
positions to women and have set their standards. Anyone, who can meet operationally relevant and
gender neutral standards, regardless of gender, should have the opportunity to serve in any position
(Carter, 2015). The Military Services and United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM)
were directed to implement this new change in policy by January 1, 2016 or submit an exception to
this policy if they ... Show more content on [Link] ...
From the beginning of American history men have fought our battles, but little do people know
women have always been in our nations battles. During the Revolutionary War women follow
their husbands to war, many serve in camps as cooks and nurses but had to obtain permission
from the commanding officer if they proved themselves helpful (U.S. ARMY, 2017). From 1782
to 1783 Deborah Sampson served over a year in General Washington s army disguising herself as
a man, until she was wounded; reveling her true gender and being honorably discharged. Skipping
ahead to 1861 the America Civil War, women would serve as administrators of hospitals as well as
cooks and nurses in both the Union and Confederate hospitals. From 1917 to 1918 World War I,
women were allowed to join the military.
Throughout the last 2 years of World War 1 over 33,000 women served as nurses and support staff
officially in the armed forces and more than 400 nurses die or are wounded in the line of duty.
Moving forward to World War II 1941 1945, more than 400,000 women serve at home and abroad
as mechanics, nurses, ambulance drivers, pilots, and other non combat roles. Eight eight women
were captured as POW s (prisoners of war). In 1984 Congress passed the Women s Armed Services
Integration Act allowing women permanent military status and entitled to veteran s benefits. In 1950
1953 over 50,000 women served at home and abroad during the

Roman Empire Vs Greek Empire
The Roman Empire versus the Greek Empire
Introduction
The Greece and the Roman empires are considered to be amongst the most powerful empires in
history as their impact is still felt some 2000 years after they were conquered. The Greece Empire is
said to have lasted for approximately 350 years while the Roman Empire is said to have lasted for
between 500 and 1500 years based on how one interprets the rule of the Romans (Ahbel Rappe
530). Over time, there has been a debate on which of the two empires was strong than the other
based on the impacts to the ancient world. From the debates, it has been noted that some
individuals hold on to the fact that the Romans managed to develop a world that the Greeks only
dreamed about while others have maintained that the Greeks had built a better world than the
Romans (Roisman 410). Based on my knowledge of the two empires, I think the Romans were
better than the Greeks thus making the Greeks to dream of building a world similar to that of
Romans. As such, this paper will give points for and against my claim.
Why the Greeks dreamt of the Roman World
There are some reasons that are given to explain why the Greeks dreamt of having what the Romans
had built over time. Firstly, it is important to note that the Greeks are the people who invented
philosophy and science. On the other hand, despite having great philosophers and scientists, the
Romans produced engineers, administrators, and architects, unlike the Greeks. As a result of this,
Vodafone
INTRODUCTION Since the need of the hour is the communication which we make with each other,
I have taken a telecommunication company as my concerned organization with the topic What next
for Vodafone? A strategic study of leadership and people performance in a successful organization ,
for my report. Here, I will talk about the strategic planning introduced in the Vodafone. A discussion
about the company s mission, vision and goals of the company would be discussed in brief. After
that, a SWOT (strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis would also be done to have
a better understanding of the environment in which the company is working. Then I will highlight

It acquires the leading position in India and has a huge presence in Japan. Its strategic alliance
with Apple iphone is also one of the strength of Vodafone. Weaknesses Weaknesses of the company
is analysed by the SWOT analysis which would further help the company to make strategies to
reduce its weaknesses by reconfiguring its operation process. The US business of Vodafone is not
as large and strong as Europe, which contains a larger percentage of operations of almost 80%.
Opportunities Strategies of Vodafone can focus on exploiting its strengths to capture the
opportunities that are present openly in the market. A great opportunity lies in the untapped market
of developing nations of Asia and Africa. Also, it can take up the step of reducing cost in India and
has the opportunity to come up with the research and development of the new technologies in the
mobile phones. Threats Any external factor which poses hindrances for the expansion,
diversification and development of the company could be termed as the threats for the company.
Since there is a highly competitive market for mobile phones in the market, it poses a big threat for
Vodafone. Also, the European Union regulations on the cross border cell phone are the threats which
the company is supposed to handle by formulating the strategies in to action. Besides all this, any
company is
Group Collaboration Analysis

impacts on a large scale in their community. This final project of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing
(BSN) has provided the opportunity to collaborate with individuals, groups and public health
organizations to address a need in the community. The following will include an assessment of the
group process utilizing the four stages of forming, storming, norming and performing as identified
by Connery and Vohs (2006). An assessment of the collaboration with the Medical Reserve Corp and
the Pierce County HealthDepartment will also be evaluated. My personal roles and contributions will

Before the group begins discussing the project, everyone has a chance to discuss any personal stories
or information they want to share. Personal information has included birthdays, impending births
and how everyone spent their weekends. Even though the group members were fairly acquainted,
this has provided opportunities for further relationship development. Connery and Vohs (2006)
comment that groups attempt to alleviate tensions or anxiety by diving into the project and
bypassing relationships. By spending a little time at the beginning of each meeting, our group have
been able to work through any existing anxiety and gain insight into what is important and
influential to the other group
