Procedure
1. Review Additional Notes section in this kb to ensure prerequisites for expansion are fulfilled.

2. To perform expansion, click your Block Host in Protector, then click the expansion icon in upper right corner.
Protector will expand both primary and secondary device.
Only the device you select will be expanded, but all pairs in the Dataflow will be paused (suspended) and resumed
(resynchronized) in the process.
Please refer to Protector online help section "Hitachi Block Host Resize Dialog" for details about supported
combinations.

Additional Notes
To allow expansion, pairs must use hierarchical difference management (HM).

For devices larger then 4TB, hierarchical difference management (HM) is automatically used, no intervention
required.
Devices smaller then 4TB use shared memory difference management (SM) per default.

To set devices smaller then 4TB to use hierarchical difference management, enable Block Device Advanced Settings
for the storage systems in Protector. Block Device Advanced Settings enables System Option Mode (SOM) 1198.
This setting must be done on both Primary and Secondary storage system.

Block Device Advanced Settings is not available for VSP G1x00, VSP F1500, instead enable System Option Modes
(SOM) 1050 and 1058 which will provide same functionality. This setting cannot be done from Protector. Contact you
local CE for assistance setting the SOM.
This setting must be done on both Primary and Secondary storage system.

When Block Device Advanced settings (or SOM 1050 and 1058 for VSP G1x00, VSP F1500) is set, Protector will
automatically move the devices in the Dataflow subjected to expansion from SM to HM by pause (suspend) and
resume (resynchronize) before expanding the device.
To set Block Device Advanced Settings the storage user configured for the Protector Block Device must belong to the
Administrator User Group and Support Personnel User Group.

If the current storage user does not belong to the Support Personnel User group create a new storage user
assigned to the Administrator User Group and Support Personnel User Group and update the Block Device (Edit
Block Device) with the new user and password.

Protector v7.8 and later:

If updating the existing user by adding the Support Personnel User Group restart Protector ISM node. Make sure no
jobs are in progress in Protector when restarting.

/opt/hitachi/protector/bin/diagdata --stop all

/opt/hitachi/protector/bin/diagdata --start all

Protector before v7.8:

If updating the existing user by adding the Support Personnel User Group, you must manually logout CCI from the
storage system using raidcom -logout -IX in order to pickup the changed roles. Make sure no jobs are in progress in
Protector when performing logout and restart Protector ISM node after logout.

/opt/hitachi/protector/bin/diagdata --stop all

/opt/hitachi/protector/bin/diagdata --start all

Restart of ISM node in version before 7.8 will not issue a raidcom -logout in all cases, it must be done manually.
